Title: WRs ahead of their time
Post by: BK on October 21, 2019, 09:54:38 pm
What do you guys think some of the most "ahead of their time" world records are? It's amazing to see how quickly some levels become optimized, and my personal list of before their time wrs include:

Crash site 115/127 - '06/'05

Extraction 49/122 - '05

Infiltration 111 - '05

SOS 137 - '05

Keen to see what others think  :)

Defection A 0:05 (Nov 2010) - One of many time Illu achieved which just seemed to be divine intervention when it actually happened.
Remained untied for almost 5 years

Bunker 1 A 0:17 (Aug 2003) - Wouter was reported to have grinded an incomprehensible (for the time) 150+ hours for this, and it remained
     untied for almost 3 years.

Chicago A 0:14 (June 2011) - Clemens states that "even in the days leading up to this run 14 was thought by most to be impossible," but
Clemens managed to clutch out a 10.33 case TT (to this day the 2nd fastest in recorded history). Remained untied for over 7 years

Aztec 00A 1:56 (March 2003) - An overlooked run, but was an insane 18 second untied when set, and remained untied for over 2 years,
which is unheard of for Aztec even to this day. (Luke's 1:35 is just getting to that point!)

Can't think of adding much to the already great suggestion of WRs, but basically most of Wouter's records (B1 A 17, Frigate 23, Aztec, Cradle SA 36, Depot 43/50). Illu Dam SA 117. Boss Bunker 1 00A 107. Silo SA 112 (still Bryan's PR). Statue 00A 218 obviously; Egypt A 46.

Extraction SA 122, Infiltration PA 152, Attack Ship PA 315/312, Ruins A 108, Lec/Boss's MBR records with the old old strat.

Records NOT ahead of their time i.e. the complete opposite include Archives 55, Egypt SA/00A 45/46

Thanks for bringing this topic up. A couple months ago I was compiling all the year end WRs with # of days untied, duration of WR, and points today and highlighting all WRs that were top 5 in those categories (only runs with videos qualified in early years). Since there is interest in something like this given this topic, it would be a good time to finish that soon and get it out there so people can vote for their favorite WR/WRs for each year in both games. :) I would probably just release 1 year for each game at a time for like a week or 2 before doing the next year to milk it out over the course of a bunch of months until finally getting to 2019 (would be into 2020 by the time that happened).

Sounds awesome! Looking forward to it  :grinning:

Jungle SA 0:53 by Ace in June 2008
Aztec SA 1:36 by Clemens in March 2008, both of these are insane for the strats used at the time

B1 SA 0:21 seems to be remarkable for early 2008 considering that for such a short level, only THREE other people have achieved it or better in the past 11.5 years.

Dam 1:55 by Marc, no doubt it'd still be a tier 1 if not for the new Basement strat. Similar equivalents on other 00A levels came years later.
