Virginia 2020 @ the Lakehouse
* Plan to arrive Monday evening, June 1st
* Plan to leave Saturday morning/afternoon, June 6th
Please post your intentions in this topic if you wish to go. The more you share, the better.
Note 1: due to high demand in recent years, we're asking that initial signups be for players only. If there is still room at the house available as of May 1st, we'll be open to having interested spouses/children take spots at that time.
Note 2: veteran VAers will be prioritized for spots at the Lakehouse; if all slots are taken, newcomers interested in competing in the Kart tourney could stay offsite and drive in for the nightly competitions. Here are some options in the area:

I would like to enter the Mario Kart 64 tournament.
-
In like Flynn
-
100% in. Most likely driving from Philly.
-
100% in. Driving from Baltimore, can grab people from BWI.
-
Cool! I bet 2020 is going to be a big year. I like the sound of June 1-6 too. Count me in, I’ll start looking for flights and post a follow-up shortly.
-
New job says I can't take my 2 weeks annual leave until after July 29th.
BUT, my work schedule after training (ending sometime in May), will be 7-on, 7-off. If this week coincides with one of my weeks off, or part of, I'll gladly book a flight and make it for at least part of the week.
Mark me down for 60%, pending work schedule.
-
I'm 100% in.
I can also help with rides from Richmond airport. If TVs are needed please let me know because I was thinking about giving away a couple of my old CRTs.
Also down for a pre-meet warmup any time.
-
Sign me up I'm ready to play
I'll be flying in from miami.
-
I will also participate.
Now we are checking the route of the plane.
-
100%, might fly or get a ride from smurfy if he's available
-
Yep this year ive got a ride and i started saving up, barring some unforseen circumstance, im there.
Btw how did it work last year with the overflow guys regarding entry fees and such? i assume im gonna have to stay off site. looks like theres some decently cheap places, but idk how close anything is to the house.
(im sean murphy btw if you dont remember from last year)
-
Should be able to go, family-free.

I believe the off-site guys paid a smaller house fee (due to not using the showers and facilities) to cover meals.

If we only have 25 players, everyone can stay at the house all week. If we reach the cap though, we would ask for new players to stay together at an AirBnB in the area overnight and take a short drive to the Lakehouse in the afternoons to be there for all the tournament action.
As you look for available places in the area, check the map. You'd want to find something as close to this red circled area as possible (this is the view of all Lake Anna):
(https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.upload.speedrunwiki.com%2Fimages%2Fmisc%2Flakeannaarea.png&hash=051d4d662b9ed6da95745f91deb3c0de381d618e)
And here's that BnB listing again for the week in question (this is also in the top post)

I’m in at 80% my wife was considering on going but didn’t really want too and I was not going to try to convince her because someone who plays could use the spot at the house. I can bring all the tvs I can fit but maybe if Andy wants to carpool that would help cover the costs of the van rental so I can bring all the trinitrons we could need. I can also bring about 5 n64s and the vr too. I hope I can make it to see everyone again! :)

Hi, i confirm 100% my assistence, but i dont count with enough money so i need a space in the house. Is it possible ?
i´m booking the flight to VA in these days
What is the name of the closest airport to the event ? Is it possible that someone can give me a lift ?
I have planned to arrive to VA on sunday night aprox.
Regards
-
Don't worry about money- even if we don't have room for you to sleep at the house, you would be able to split the price of an AirBnB rental with other players so your total price would be in the same $150 American range as listed above.
And don't worry about getting picked up, we'll find someone who can get you from the airport. The closest ones where we will have people driving by are
RIC - Richmond International Airport
DCA - Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport
IAD - Dulles International Airport
We also might be able to find someone to drive you in from
BWI - Baltimore International Airport
EDIT - However please try to find a flight which will arrive Monday afternoon/evening instead, June 1st! We will have nowhere for you to sleep on Sunday night and might not have someone available to pick you up either. Most people try to have their planes land around 5 to 7pm Eastern on Monday night. This is fine, no Kart matches will take place until Tuesday evening.
-
Putting in my time off request now.
I think I’ll have to go the jones route this year and only do a half week, I have a work event Monday through Wednesday so I’d be able to get in Wednesday night. Not sure of any other logistics at the time
-
VenaMonterrey showed up today and said they plan to book the following flight:
1 June 2020 - 6:15am MTY - ORD - DCA 3:44pm
6 June 2020 - 2:45pm DCA - ORD - MTY 11:27pm
The dates and times seem to be within the reasonable range for the event, I told them it looked good.

I should update and say I'm not 100% anymore, not really sure what I'm at but I'll update in the future
-
Hello, my name is Josh Handeland. I haven’t attended before, but I’m interested. Right now I’d say 50%. When would I have to let you know for sure by?
-
I am officially in!
-
Hey Josh, if possible we'd like to get all players confirmed before May 1st, so we can get an accurate read on how many people will be staying at the main house. It's possible all our spots there would be taken and you would need to stay at an AirBnB with other first timers as overflow, but we don't know for sure yet. Keep an eye on this topic for further details.
Hattok, are you planning to fly? Jimbo and I will be driving over from Wisconsin, for the moment we're not sure who will be coming with us but it's possible there will be room for you in our car if you're interested.

I will be flying into RIC again I haven't booked a fight yet, so I'll keep this in mind.

If I landed at DCA on Monday evening at 9:37pm, would anyone be able to give
Me a ride? I haven’t booked anything yet. I’m also keeping an eye on Richmond flights than land around 3pm.
-
If I landed at DCA on Monday evening at 9:37pm
It is on the later side...if it's your only option then it will probably end up working eventually, but if you were there 3-6 hours earlier it might line up better with more typical arrivals. We have certainly had people land in DC later than that in the past, though.
-
Unfortunately I am no longer able to go because I am unable to get off of work.
So now I’m at 1% chance of going. Maybe next year. :tired:
-
What if I land at 11:10am at BWI and fly out Saturday at 2:50pm, would someone be able to give me rides? I’m just looking at cheapest flights.

It might work, but 2:50pm on Saturday from BWI is going to require a fairly early leave time from the lakehouse to get there in time. I am not 100% sure, but I don't think we have ever had anyone do a /dropoff/ by car (sosmeone may have done a car rental though) to BWI on the last day of the meet. Is anyone from north of Baltimore coming this year? If your car ride only takes you as far as DC, it would still take like another hour to get up to BWI.
A pre-noon arrival on Monday at BWI wouldn't be a big problem though. If there were drivers coming from the north they could get you or else you could get on the MARC to Union Station in DC followed by either Amtrak to Fredericksburg or Metro to DCA.
If you were planning on renting a car yourself, picking up some other attendees in DC, and bringing the rental car back to BWI on the final day, then I would say it was a good plan. But if you're looking for the absolute lowest cost, renting a car is usually not part of the equation since those rates are pretty high at these airports.
-
Thanks for your answers. Isn’t the meet over on Friday night? What time do people usually leave on Saturday?
I saw SGT RAGEQUIT said he can give rides from BWI but not sure what his plan is for times.
-
What time do people usually leave on Saturday?
People leave at whatever time it takes to get to their flights in time. So for most that's like 11am to noon or so, but sometimes people need to leave earlier than that. Since everyone seems to enjoy staying up ridiculously late on the final night, that Saturday morning tends to feature some very tired folks wandering around looking for their controller and trying to get out of the house in time. With the 2:50pm departure from BWI, you would definitely be in the category of "needs to leave earlier than most". (It's definitely doable.)

Hi The Flash, need some help
I have some doubts for the people that aren't from the US
1 - I want to know what questions do the migration people do
2 - Is it neccesary to bring a voucher of payment and the address of the event? This to avoid any problem to enter to the US
3 - If anyone has some type of information about what they can ask me, please tell me. I'll need to write a speech to practice it because of my lack of english, so anything is welcomed.
forget to ask, once the event is over, is there anyone who can take me back to the RICH airport on Saturday morning? I think my flight leaves at 13:00
Regards
-
1 - I want to know what questions do the migration people do
I do not know the exact details that you will need to enter the country. There are several others here who might have a better idea.
2 - Is it neccesary to bring a voucher of payment and the address of the event? This to avoid any problem to enter to the US
We will give you the address of the location you will be visiting and other information you might need such as a phone number. I do not know all the items you will need, but someone here must know.

The user UNO337FTW has brought people to RIC in the past, he may be able to help you as well.

Thanks The Flash
by the way what is your gamer tag, I have not seen your nick in the straem

I can give you a ride both ways, no biggie
You can hit me up at tylerbdeel@gmail.com or on discord ragequit#4321 if you have any questions or anything

I can give you a ride back as well, not a problem!
-
You can put me as 100%. I’ve booked my flights; I’m flying to Baltimore and getting a ride from RageQuit. Looking forward to it!!!
2 more questions I have:
1. Is the format going to be the same as last year - meaning even if I get smoked I’ll still get to play each level twice, with 3 different opponents each time? (Maybe this hasn’t been decided yet, idk)
2. Is it PAL or NTSC?
-
NTSC. It is very, very likely that anyone who has at least played the game and knows how to MT will be guaranteed more than one round of official tournament gameplay. But since the official tournament structure has not been announced, that isn't set in stone quite yet. And even if you are eliminated early, you can play as many friendly matches as you wish all week long.
-
Hey I am interested in going but am trying to get the whole ride situation worked out. I would've replied sooner but didn't know what the sitch was.
-
I have to see if I can get the time off. If I do go, I would almost certainly drive down after work on Wednesday the 3rd. The play ins start Tuesday and end Wednesday right?
Put me at 50%

I would have been down to join, but I am driving to Detroit to pick up TYG and Smurfy. If that falls through, then yes!
-
50/50 this year. I have 5 weeks of vacation (yeah we get that much in Europe ) and it is already fully planned. Will know for sure by end of April if i come.
-
I am 90% sure I can make it. I should be able to come down after work on Wednesday. I get off a little after 2 and it should be about a 2 and a half hour ride, maybe more if traffic is bad. I just can't get that whole week off. Could I do both play ins on Wednesday if we have the same schedule as last year?
-
Could somebody please PM me the PayPal account I will submit my entree fee to?

Actually in some years it was just Tuesday.

ATTENTION: Don't buy any plane tickets, don't try to paypal anyone.
We're talking with the Weathertons to see if they want to shut down the meet and try again in 2021.
-
The Weathertons have confirmed that the 2020 meet is CANCELED, they are sad as they were looking forward to seeing everyone again this Summer, but at this point it seems like the only responsible decision.
Hopefully those who already booked flights will be able to secure refunds. Even if the airlines are telling you right now that you can't get one, keep checking, they're going to be in hot water if they don't cave and start giving money back considering half the world is going to be backing out of their reserved slots over the next couple months.
-
Good call on their part. Thanks for the update. I hope to see everyone next year if not before.

So the cancellation of this year's tournament due to you know what confirms the series premiere of my new show on YouTube will begin on June 1st because had we went through with the tournament the premiere would have been on Memorial Day. By the way my new show focuses on past VA matchups with some more info that was never revealed on the streams before. Each episode will be in 5 parts (Mushroom Cup on Monday, DKJP-BB on Tuesday, RRd +WS on Wednesday, SL-BC on Thursday, and Flower Cup on Friday) although the Friday portion of episode 5 from June 29th-July 3rd will be extended as there will be an added bonus on that week. There will be 14 episodes, the last one being on the week before Labor Day. Hopefully everyone has a wonderful and safe year to close this post out, and am bummed that this is the first non VA year since 2006.

But, if Corona calms down, I think anticipate that someone may hold a tournament in the USA.
Even if that tournament is not VA.
I want to believe it and wait :rollin:

Sad to hear it, but I felt it coming. Good move, we could all possibly try something new online in terms of multiplayer and streaming so we don’t feel left out at home. Would be difficult but I would be interested in a split-screen Werewolf session on zoom/hangouts or FaceTime if that’s possible to pull off. There could be lots of good ideas there.
Wishing everyone good health.
