Hello Everyone,
Just thought I'd say hello, and introduce myself. It's great to meet you all. In truth, I joined the elite, not because I'm a particularly gifted player, but as means to be apart of a community that still holds Goldeneye in such high regard. I have tremendous respect for all of you, and some the feats acomplished have blown me away. So hats of to all of you for posting world records, and untieds alike. But regardless of ability, its great to meet you all.
So, now the formal introductions are out the way, i'd like to pitch a few questions to the Goldeneye elite about Dam Agent 53. I understand we all lead busy lives, so any response would mean the world.
I have only recently started playing Goldeneye again. My ultimate ambition being, to get Dam 53, or even 52. But I understand this will require significant grind.
After two weeks of playing on and off, I have reached a level where I can achieve a 0.55 everytime. As a result, I now have about 70+ successful 55 attempts recorded on my Elgato, but never have I eclipsed that score.
So i'd like to ask the following questions in regards to the level.
- What is a fast time to reach the first gate?
- Also, I always get 38 seconds after attempting the lockshot. Is 38 in-game Goldeneye seconds a quick enough time to have attempted the lock shot and missed?
- Do you need a clean gate without slight stutter for 54 seconds?
- Is look up preferable or look down at the end stretch?
- Do you have a specific strat for the lockshot? Everytime I seem to do it instinctively without a set strategy. I hit it about 5/6 out of 10 times. Can you reccomend a decent technique that cuts time?
- And finally, do you go outside the guard through the tunnel and look up, or take the inside route?

Good afternoon!
Simple points to follow:
1. 37 pause/quitouts at the gate are 53 pace.
2. A fast button gate is crucial for 53/52
3. Use the lookup strategy in the first hallway (watch more recent 53s and KJ's 52
4. Watch Dan Cervone's 53 for a textbook lesson on how to approach and aim for the lockshot.
5. Have you tried using 2.x? It saves 0.3 with no effort.
6. Look up at the end stretch (it's faster, as far as we know)
7. Outside slightly for pathing around that guard in the tunnel
Hope these points help! Maybe other folks will pitch in if I missed something.

How fast you reach the gate isn't too important. What is important is how early you load the guard behind the first gate that makes the gate open faster. My dam tutorial goes over this specific problem.

38 is either 55 or 54 pace. 53 require a 37 quit out.

The gate speed is not as relevant, real speed is defendant on how fast you load the guard behind the first hate. See my tut for info.
- Is look up preferable or look down at the end stretch?
Look up is preferred, because it's easier to keep a good line.

You can use the texture on the wall to line but, but I personally don't do this. Check Wodahs' tut for more info on this.

2.x is OP.
More serious though, if you can stream attempts or join discord and put runs in #speedrun review
53 has been achieved by ~200 people, so plenty can give specific advice on your runs to help you out

Thank you to Alec M, Yendis, and Cal for your advice, much apprecitated. Yes, I'd really like to join the Discord and post one of my PB's to get feedback. Honestly, you guys can be as brutal as you like, I'm just looking to improve my score in any way possible. I really appreciate the help.
How do I go about joining the discord channel?
Also, that really helps knowing my 38 quit out is close to the desired target. Appreciate the feedback. I have never had a 37 quite out after lockshot attempt, so I'm guessing that's related to loading of the guard.

Also, thanks so much Alex M. Honestly, I'm looking to get the best I can on 1.2 Solitaire or Honey control scheme. Don't think I'm good enough to switch over to 2.X just yet.

Would suggest :54 as I'm going to assume being new to the game? That he's isn't on optimal lines just yet
Ive recently played (year and a half ago with not the optimal n64 setup and with cruise only) pausing out at the gate at 37/38 and only achieving :55 - However maybe my endings are awful - Also it sounds like OP would need to use 2.x which he is stating he isn't good enough just yet as of about 35 minutes ago from his previous correspondence to the thread
2.x and :52 is only acquired by 1 other long time LEGEND of speeding so OP should be happy with 54 (38 pause)
So with his current control style :38 would put him at :54 imho however ADD 2 boosts along with a fast gate/lock shot and 53 could be in your future #goodluck #welcometospeedrunning #007

I thought as much. Right now, I have a gauranteed gate speed of 38 after the lockshot attempt.
However, my preffered strat was always the inside line at the beginning, since it seems quicker. Thanks to all your advice, I've come to realise that the gate opens much quicker going around the initial guard, with the sharp horizontal look up.
Of course, adopting this new strat this eve, I'm still hitting 55 with what seems to be a clean exit through the gate. So my thinking is, I need to get my optimal lines sorted with this new outside guard strat. At least before maximizing it to full potential.
I'd really like to post my 55 on Discord to get some feedback from the Goldeneye elite. Do you know how I can go about this?
