Title: Hey! I'm Using A Modern TV and N64 PAL version, Any noticable differences?
Post by: GoldenGuy00Heaven on February 07, 2020, 08:43:30 pm
Hello friends,

I'm using a modern TV, alongside a PAL console. I heard recently that an original CRT TV has an effect on lag input. Just wanted to know if it was significant, and whether or not I should consider buying one. Can it effect times, or is it barely noticable, results wise?

Also what levels are PAL disadvantaged, and why? I heard that Train is one of the only PAL advantaged levels, but I may be mistaken.

Again, it's great to hear from you all.

All the best,

Rob Roy.

If you're just getting into the game, lag input really isn't a big deal. It's when you get really serious and start climbing the ranks when it really matters. I got several times (Bunker 1 17, Invest agent 105) through Amarec capture, which is much worse input delay than an LCD TV.

Again, version differences don't matter until you get really serious about the game, but yes, most levels are disadvantaged on PAL because of a decreased framerate, but this helps on laggy levels like Train, Jungle, or Aztec, because since the framerate can't peak on these levels, there's less frames that needs to be rendered on PAL vs NTSC. Also with Train, this affects the watch laser to shoot much faster than NTSC could ever be in laggy conditions.

Thanks for your message JDBlack21. Great to meet you. Appreciate the feedback. Those are some amazing times btw. Yeah, I definately agree. Basically, the plan is to practice on a consistent basis, then once my level has improved to a decent degree, I'll look into maximising the set up. For now, I'm just happy with incremental improvements, at a steady rate.

I'm ready for the gruelling Goldeneye journey that awaits!  :grinning:
