Hi, I'm a person finding the perfect controller for GoldenEye aside from the OG. Can you use controller adaptors as long as you don't map the 2.x control style into 1

I'm not an authority on the rules, but OG N64 controllers are unsurpassed, except for the 2.x controllers where you want the different stick for the wider input range. Something about the original's responsiveness just gives you a lot better feel for precise movement. Obviously you're welcome to use whatever just for messing around but the rankings only forbid things like turbo or tool assisted input devices and not aftermarket sticks or pads built around a vanilla N64 scheme. And obviously it goes without saying that only N64 console runs are ranked, emulator records are kept elsewhere.
Rules can be found here: https://rankings.the-elite.net/proof
It seems that 3rd party "Controller parts" are legit and allowed as long as they only affect the controller ports so you should be good. Can't combine the inputs from multiple controllers into one, however. I'd say if you were planning any extensive controller mods it'd be best to be specific.
I'd like to point out, however, that there's absolutely zero way for us to know or enforce this unless the video shows that you're doing some kind of implausible inputs. The proof mods are pretty awesome at giving runs the smell test though if anything's out of the ordinary.

From the proof policy, under practices considered "Cheating":
"Tool assisted botting and other input scripting devices used via the N64 controller input"
If your adapter uses code to map inputs (as most, if not all, do), it is an input scripting device, and it is not allowed.
