Nail Clippers $2.99

Filing nails is better than clippers, you don't get any sharp edges and get much more control over how much you take off. Plus none of the husks will fly across the room and get lost in the carpet.

Never clipped my nails once in my life. I heard they make some gross crap to spread on your fingernails to stop you from chewing on them, I'll have to try it sometime. As it stands I chew them constantly without even thinking about it.

Used to bite them obsessively but I've made an effort to stop doing it as much. I'll still do it when I'm nervous without even thinking about it. Using clippers is pretty annoying though for the reasons rhakiath mentioned (stray nails, sharp edges.) I'll have OCD about my nail edges getting caught on fabric and often end up chewing down the rough edges anyway.

The problem with nail clippers, is you often can't get the "exact" removal of surgical precision you're looking for on some bites. I used to bite exclusively to trim down my nails. But over the last few years, I've used a combination of both biting + clippers, for max precision.
I also recommend wooden "cuticle sticks" which are pretty cheap on Amazon. They're great for prodding, pushing dead skin away from the edges of your nails, and removing hard-to-get dirt under your nails, should you acquire any after a long day of working out in the yard.

My grandpa bites his nails and they look absolutely FUCKED. So I stopped doing that a while ago as a kid seeing that horrific result of it. I trimmed my nails yesterday, I don't have any sharp edges, it's rather easy if you ask me
