Title: How do you time the ending on Control?
Post by: DYM on November 28, 2020, 06:32:28 am
Inspired by this video I clipped during the Great 2020 Ausmeet (https://clips.twitch.tv/ColorfulBoxyMochaKippa).

You're on a healthy, PB pace run on Control Agent. Natalya's protect sequence has just completed. What option typically resembles the timing method you use to exit the level such that she escapes in the fadeout?

1) Counting "1... 2... 3..." or something similar in your head.

2) Counting "1... 2... 3..." or something similar, but out loud.

3) You have a mate watching you (live or over a remote voice call), or someone nearby you can call to count or use a timer for you.

4) You time your runs by using a cue in the in-game music at the very end.

5) You start a timing software (e.g. WSplit, LiveSplit, online Internet stopwatch, etc.) on a reference point, e.g. when Natalya touches the stairs. This includes any prior steps you need to take, such as switching to the appropriate timer software beforehand.

6) You quickly glance at an already running timer (e.g. session timer) and calculate when you would need to leave based on the difference.

7) Same as 5, but with some other means (VCR timer, stopwatch on your watch, mobile phone, etc.)

8) Same as 6, but with the options listed in 7)

9) You leave solely on feel and any prior experience, e.g. "grabbing the body armour and waiting near the lift for about 3s before entering usually does it for me."

10) You have sophisticated computer tools that provide some indication (visual, aural, etc.) of when to leave.

11) Any other, possibly crazy timing method you have? Post away!

...

Of course, you might use multiple methods. For example, you might try to wing it in case you get shot while Nat's message is going off (delaying the message), when your typical method is using a timer. It would be interesting to hear how people handle some of these scenarios as well!

Big running timer that you only need to move your eyes for a tiny bit to take a glance at is by far the best. Trying to start a timer could work but you may misstime it a little or might disturb your gameplay a bit. Remember you gotta time the ending to the tenth of a sec if you want the best ending, so you gotta see what sec and what tenth was on the timer right as you see nat turning or from where you time it. Maybe if you are bad at catching where the timer was at real quick then maybe starting a timer is better.

Good thing is I only need to watch the sec and tenth, so if the timer was at 1:26.45 for example I'd only catch the number 6 and .4 for the tenth, only need to substract 2 and that's it, so 6-2=4 and add the .4, so leave 4.4. If the sec timer is at 1 you just gotta substract to 0 and back to a 9, for example 1:21.1 I'd be leaving at a 9.1 on the sec timer, offcourse not 1:29.1 but 1:39.1 but I would not make the mistake of leaving 129 obviously because I would not even be at the door at that point yet.

Fkn wing it - Count to 2 after you open the elevator door and wing it in - 1.2 control style maybe count to 3 after opening the elevator door - If objective wasn't complete then it was 'close' and you'll get it on the next attempts - That was my style anyway #experience

A timer or someone timing for you could net you that .3-.5 "reaction time"
