Looking at the rankings just before the first glass skip was discovered gives us:
1:56a, 2:17sa, 2:29ooa.
To a scrub-tier player like me, these seems like such strong records. Wouter's 1:56 in particular is incredible, and, to me, there doesn't seem like massive room for improvement, say on the order of 10+ seconds; of course there are things that can be done better, but I wonder how much of an impact they would make?
Would any of these 20-year-old times be worth points, maybe? Or is that just the naive thought of a scrub player?

Boss beat all these times a few years back:

I think Ace may have a 00 time as well. They can all still be improved, but no reason to at this point.

Oh nice. Didn't know about these. Thanks for that!

Is there any place where "strat world records" are unofficially kept? (I would never suggest they be officially kept, as there could be infinite possibilities and it would be completely out of control. But if it's just like a forum thread, forum threads are out of control anyway...) It would be cool to have a single place to go as far as records for Jaws strats, nadeless strats, tank stats, 1.x Depot strats, all that.

Brought this up the other day in a topic somewhere - I believe there are a few people working on this as I'm sure the idea has been looming for years (some sort of direct strategies , control styles required, cut scene etc for given levels/modern day mainline strategies for WR/PR's)

Not yet, although it would be cool to see. It'd be kind of like this thread (PD without OoB): https://forums.the-elite.net/index.php?topic=24047.0

Thanks for this, I had no idea.
My best time without glass is 2:45. When I got my first glass strat it was only a 2:30 and that's where my PB stands. I couldn't believe it. The fact that Zwartjes had that beat on day 1 without the glass strat is just soul-crushing. I can only tell myself that he was probably playing for 8 hours a day or something. 1:56?! I'm checking that out.

Depressing, isn't it lol. Once I actually get a full timespage and a new controller, my aim was to beat these times using the old pit strat. Aztec is still my favourite level, but I liked those old runs better without the glass skip.

Yeah it was fun back in the day and the weapon swap "trick" to skip back upwards at the beginning was an epic find UNTIL the glass strat was conceived into existence - Would think some YOLO would put the strat around the low 1:50's - Someone is claiming Zwartjes had a 1:56 however was it recorded or proved? Be pretty near current day record on a non glass strat record...

already done. it could go way lower as well. Likely mid 140s at least

Yeah thats pretty yolo and the strat that came to mind something like this - Think you can even skip the 2 rooms before jaws on a more direct line however maybe not with the whole life aspect and survival - Everything else looks pretty tight so something in the mid to high 140's appears promising - Quite the run for its time for BB but wouldn't expect much less for his caliber of play

I think there's been a crossed wire somewhere in the thread: it was Wouter who got the 1:56a, and that was the last time before the glass skip was discovered. It's hard to ascertain when the first pit strat became the meta, because there's no concrete date; although, looking at the records, they jump quite dramatically between July and August '99 so probably about then.

Seems about right. Would be absolutely miserable to get a completed run. I've always thought that it's easier on 00a rather than agent using the pit strat; you pretty much have to take damage at multiple points and don't even get the armour as respite.
interesting to see the optimisation of running into the Jaws room as well. I've only found one run from the old days where that happens. I did wonder if it was faster. Now we know.

Yeah its probably 3-5 seconds faster - If you were to use this strat on OOA I think you could try to skip the 4 guards in the room leading up to jaws (taking damage on OOA is ok because of the health meter needing to be in a range to complete the drone room with uplink - This health to BA ratio was heavily discussed back in the day to a degree of what was required to complete the drone room)
By the time you peek out to see Jaws and circle back for the 4 guards prior to Jaws in which we skipped/strafed by on the way to Jaws we simply eliminate them which Jaws will be at the corner awaiting his demise - Its key to eliminate the FAR guard AFTER the very first room Bond starts in (at least on OOA and acquiring the BA) Because he can definitely eat your health when the switching weapons warp back up from the pit which is shown in BB's video above in the first 8 seconds of the run

I wonder if the WR strat with the Jaws route could use the reverse objective order?
Edit: Nah never mind, I forgot how that worked.
