Title: *2020 Predictions Topic* (Unofficial)
Post by: RWG on January 04, 2022, 05:47:08 am
Amici miei,

For one reason or another, there was never a 2020 Predictions thread made.  We see this as a glaring gap at the start of predictions threads since, as seen below in the 2022 Predictions Thread:

Previous prediction threads over the years (gives an interesting insight into the mood, attitudes, and zeitgeist of the community at the time).

However, I actually did write a few predictions for the year 2020, back in December 2019 and January 2020, but never ended up posting them (I hadn't returned to the forums yet).  At the time, I was intentionally trying to be as positive as possible, attempting to manifest only great things into the world.  However, as we can see, the year 2020 turned out being almost exactly the opposite to my predictions, in every single way.  I once read a few of these predictions on a livestream, but it wasn't widely seen.  So below, you will find my original post, predicting what I thought (and hoped) would happen in the year 2020... It's really funny to look back and think about just how the year turned out to be one of the "worst ever" in modern history..

2020 Predictions

Early in 2020, amateur astronomers discover an approaching comet, roughly 10 AU from Earth when spotted.  By April, the comet is clearly visible to the naked eye and becomes a splendid sight in the night sky.  By early-June, as the comet approaches perihelion, it becomes twice as bright as Comet Hale-Bopp, absolutely dominating the night sky and enchanting all those who gaze upon it.  While usually it glows shades of yellow, green or blue, the most beautiful nights are when it seems to dance with shades of pink & light purple; giving it its colloquial name, “The Pink Comet”.

The consequences of The Pink Comet being visible to everyone on Earth, in the modern age of social media and internet access are universal and transcendent.  With everyone united in awe and splendour, human differences subside greatly.  Racial tensions ease throughout Europe & North America, while religious, scientific & political differences just seem to dwindle through summer 2020.  Virtually every major city sees a notable decline in violent crime and accidental deaths.  Kim Jong-Un and Moon Jae-In announce a plan to reunify the Korean peninsula by 2040.  With mounting pressure, President Maduro agrees to live in exile, and Juan Guiado directs Venezuela to their first truly democratic election in generations.  Peaceful reforms sweep across the Middle East & Africa, in even greater numbers & power than the Arab spring ten years prior.  The People’s Republic of China lessens its grip, allowing Hong Kong to become a fully sovereign nation, and withdraws their claims on the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea.  Arctic sea ice holds its strongest & largest form in over 50 years.  The Atlantic Hurricane season sees no Category 5 storms.  The year sees no recorded fatalities from commercial airline accidents, and the Boeing 737 MAX continues to be grounded throughout all of 2020.  Isolated populations of the believed-extinct Thylacine are found in both New Guinea and Tasmania, and a small population of cancer-resistant Tasmanian Devils begin to repopulate the island.

The Pink Comet dominates meme & pop culture, with many livestreams of the comet viewable every night.  Scientific breakthroughs in agriculture result in a continued decline of world poverty & hunger; and the cost of basic foods like milk & bread become more affordable in the developed world.  Numerous world records are broken at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, including a lower 2:01 men’s marathon.  A charming, little-known athlete from a small country wins 5 gold medals, becoming the winningest athlete of the games and a worldwide media darling.  Tiger Woods wins at least one more men’s major golf championship.  The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is released to universal acclaim, generally viewed as “even better” than the first.  Bitcoin peaks at just under $100,000 USD a number of weeks after “the halving”.

The Pink Comet fades out by mid-late September or early October, but the feeling it left this planet has lasting impact.  In general, the year sees a paradigm shift towards greater human understanding, empathy, compassion, and shared work towards healthy & inspiring endeavors.  You, the reader, may go through some trials & challenges, but ultimately have a good year with a lot of personal growth and developments towards improving your life & reaching your goals.
