Title: Evolution
Post by: Phil-Hughes on August 01, 2003, 04:13:00 pm
It goes without saying that past champions will always fall if they let their foot off the gas and stop playing. Times change and expectations grow of the potentials who may one day become the new champion.

Right now I believe we have reached the end of Jobst's reign as Shade is likely to pass him with the use of a PAL system. The main question that we have to ask ourselves is whether or not we believe that Shade is completely legitimate. While I had reason to believe that we were being taken for a ride, my opinion has since changed. The only way that we will be sure is when the proof tape arrives over the coming weeks.

As a past champion I now realise that there is so much more that players can achieve in this game. While I played hard and objectively, I still have goals that remain to be achieved, such as to dominate the three stages that I hate most of all in this game. A quick survey of the world rankings makes it very obvious that as a player, I need to play.

A long time ago I proudly claimed to be the best sole system player, but this has recently changed. It took a long fifteen months for this to happen, but now I am forced to take action :smokin

This coming week I will be on vacation for a week. Unfortunately I cannot guarantee that the holiday will be fun, so I am taking the N64 with me, along with a portable TV. I hope that I will be able to improve a few times in the early hours of morning if at no other time, so I would greatly appreciate advice relating to the stages that I cannot play. Collectively I can potentially take 1:51 off my overall time, meaning that I could even become the elite champion with one system again. While not likely, I realistically hope to break 1:42:00 :)

Any help relating to the stages Attack Ship, MBR and Maian SOS will be greatly appreciated. I remember hearing that the strategy for Attack Ship is not luck dependant, and it would be cool if DarkMaster or Karl could explain the strategy in more detail. Any help and strategies for MBR would also be helpful, and any suggestions relating to how I can destroy my 2:25 Maian PA with a PAL system will be noted.

Actually, my strategy for Attack ship PA is quite simple, no luck whatsoever, and can get 3:25 or so, assuming you make the lift, which I missed by quite a bit and still managed a 3:37 (And I missed it by less last time and got like 3:33 or something gay)

Anyways, I can explain it, it's simple.

By the way, good luck, and even if you don't get #1 again, at least try to make some nice improvements (get some good WRs!), I'm sure you can do it.

I'd love to help you out with MBR.  First of all I'd need to know where you might be having trouble.  Have you seen any of my vids?  If you want to talk about it my AIM s/n is Travistld.

Tip in case you don't know... open the door to her office from the elevator as it's going up.  Saves a good amount of time.

Despite what you may believe (I don't know what that might be) maybe 95% of the luck is only when cass begins to run and whether she is fast or not.  I normally get a cass that could give me the WR or faster once every half an hour or less.  Everything after that is basically up to you, and a small chance that the guards screw you over.  ha

Say you get a fast cass that begins to run in under about 2 seconds.  You want to stay directly behind her and push her as much as possible without getting in front of her, or pushing her off course.  Also you want to make sure that she never opens any door as that can turn her into a slow cass, besides wasting time by her stopping.

She comes out of her room, goes to the right and through that door, then up the stairs.  You are behind her and pushing most of the time, then at the top of the stairs, you run ahead of her in right strafe, then open the door and back up to give her space to get through.  Push her through, then push her to the right, and when you get close to where she is going to turn to the left, kill that guy above you.  Then proceed to push her up the ramp and then run ahead of her at the last moment to open the 1st door at the top.  Then go and open the last door, but wait like .5 seconds then run out and get against the wall to your left (not against the door you opened).  Shoot the last guard if you want (I try to cuz he can be gay).  Then when she runs past you push her until you get close to the ramp.  Run ahead of her and turn around (effectively extending the railing to the ramp so she doesn't run around to the other side).  Then when she is going straight up the ramp start to push her.  When she is going up the ramp and starts to do that 180 degree turn to the other one, give her some space.  It's really easy to mess her up if you attempt to push here.  Then it'll take a little luck at the very last part to get her around the last turn smoothly.

Ok, I typed a shitload.  haha.  Well, if you have any questions or want some TTs just ask.  Also this might help others I hope.  .

Here's some info for Attack Ship.

In Agent, it doesn't take a fully charged Mauler shot to kill a Skedar. On PA it does. So when playing Agent, shoot when the Mauler's only half-charged or so. Saves heaps of time.

On Agent and Special Agent, go right after the hangar elevator. On Perfect Agent, go left.

You know the calling the elevator trick? Skip all cinema, get a Mauler and call the first elevator from through the wall as the Mauler comes out. It helps with elevator timings.

In the hangar, you have to kill 4 Skedar on Agent, 5 on Special Agent and 6 on Perfect Agent. Then head for the lift.

Run against the walls when in lifts so you can come out with maximum speed.

Elvis completing is usually luck. Sometimes he'll warp past the Nav room and never do the objective. If you leave any Skedar alive between the hangar lift and the Nav room, then you can be sure he'll die.

Download my Attack Ship PA 3:33 vid off me, Ngamer, Wouter, or others.

Phil you've said you're going to play for like the last month now, $10 says no one will see any DA PRs ;)

YE you are so gay. How sh.it do you think phil is. OMG you're so ignorant. If I asked for advice and I got the advice phil just got I would shoot myself. Shoot skedars on agent when your mauler is half full, holy CRAP. Run against lift doors, OMG! The advice of a champion right there.

I made a list of every possible thing I could think of. Did you ever think it might help other people besides Phil as well?

I can see your point Karl, to an obviously very talented Attack Ship player that may seem like basic stuff. However, take a look at my Attack times and you'll see that I am far from this. I'm just happy that YE was able to explain the strategy to me so I will 'hopefully' be able to knock my overall time down considerably with practice. I remember a while ago when I asked you for help and you were like - 'Want my video? If you watch this closely you will see my tricks'. I then watched the video and seen Elvis warp but could not determine how. I then asked you for help and you never gave it to me. Its not a problem that I have with your character, I am merely stating that YE has been more helpful to me than you have with this particular stage :p

AS is all about being very fast after the 1st elevator so elvis will warp and complete the objective like all the time.. that's what karl told me.

The only new thing to Attack Ship PA that I used with my WR were these 3 things:

*When going to complete objective B, hit that computer, fall off, and go up to the lift the other way = faster.

*For objective d, do it SA style. ie don't kill any skedar except maybe the one who is there when you're leaving and often shoots you. Run acroos the room and leave through the opposite exit.

*Not really a strat here but i've seen variations and this is optimal: For the last room, double duck on the lift, back strafe into the back right corner, when the lift comes up just backstrafe out of the way of the centre and right guard... don't do it karl or paragon style where they run all the way behind the wall. Take them out with your mauler. Pretty obvious stuff there but... meh.

Here is how to make elvis complete every time also : ....*wakes up*.

Assuming 30 fps, and your vid is 2:12... that's 3960 pictures...

That's almost 4 MILLION words' worth!!!!

Hey all, its good to be back. While I got around to a little bit of Perfect Dark between playing arcade madstyle, I didn't achieve anywhere near what I thought I would. I played a grand total of 2 hours and managed a pretty shoody 2:21 Attack Ship Agent. I can get Elvis to complete 99.9% of the time now, though its occassionally in the very last second before I have to open the door. I'll download vids and hopefully I will be able to pass Paragon and Greg K in points, as well as maybe break 1:42:00 :)
