Title: The Sylvester-Tip 2007
Post by: silver angel on December 31, 2006, 07:51:00 am
As last year's topic, I make this so that the tradition continues. The aim is to predict what the records will be in one year from now and the top 10 players based on points.
In order to make it easier to follow, you're invited to enter your time predictions at the following address (http://quentin.meunier.free.fr/sylvestertip) (I also entered last year's preds based on what you guys entered in the previous topic).
I didn't do anything concerning the top 10 predictions as I guess it's too hard to find any measurment, but if any of you has an idea, it is of course welcome :)

I'll still give the current records and my preds here.

The current WRs and top 10 are as follows:

no agent or SA in there, eh?

What would be nice is to see how we did last year.  It took 6 years for my PD predictions to be passed, so I'll try to tone it down for this year =D

Have fun, those who play, I follow this league daily still =)

No, it just means anything I do it from here on probably won't be posted without proof first.  And if history repeats itself, I could have several PRs saved up by then that I don't already have.

It is a shame Jimmy and Eddie weren't in the top ten for most of those preds.
Axel and David are good players but everyone is giving them way too much credit. Top 20 yes.

But top 10 is really pushing it. Considering how active the top players are now.

because it's a waste of time..

also, 150 has been done with pretty low ratios like 3/0. so 7/0 should get 149 and survives. chances at 148 would be better than b1 00 106 ><

Title: The Sylvester-Tip 2007
Post by: Soft-Hedwig on January 09, 2007, 09:31:00 pm
There is no hard proof afaik (correct me if i'm wrong), but there are a lot of happy coincidences that are just too hard to dismiss.

No-one has Dam 53 on PAL.

Depot 26 is reputed to be much harder on PAL (thinking of Matthijs's experience in particular here).

Train A is apparently slower on NTSC compared to PAL, although this is just theory i think.

Probably others as well. People who have both systems say that NTSC is faster. etc. so in conclusion, you know nothing.
Title: The Sylvester-Tip 2007
Post by: RWG on January 09, 2007, 09:40:00 pm
something about that...

Dam 00 completions:

Boss - 1:59 (NTSC)
Illu - 1:59 (NTSC)
Ace - 2:00 (PAL)
Dan - 2:00 (NTSC)
Wouter - 2:01 (PAL)

Aztec 00 completions:

Illu - 1:47 (PAL)
Boss - 1:52 (NTSC)
Glen - 1:52 (PAL)
Shane - 1:53 (PAL)
Henrik -1:55 (PAL)
Trent - 1:55 (NTSC)
Wouter - 1:56 (PAL)

so claiming Dam 00 is advantaged on NTSC is just as ridiculous as claiming Aztec 00 is advantaged on PAL.

that really doesnt have much to do with the topic here but I just thought that needed to be brought up.
Title: The Sylvester-Tip 2007
Post by: DrugAgainstAngst on January 09, 2007, 09:54:00 pm
Thats the thing, people say pal has advantages but yet disadvantages. when NTSC people could say the same? So ntsc can never get a wr on train, who cares.

Sanford had me compare two vids on train and NTSC 1:08 run, the player shot 100 bullets in 14 seconds, while Pal shot 100 in 12, so obviously pal is faster on train by at least two seconds.

Egypt is definitely slower on PAL. I played PAL for a while and quit out several times where the level wouold usually end and was aborting at 49 seconds every time. I then played NTSC and was getting 48 every time, and please no one say that I was just a second faster every run, as that's obviously BS.

yeah Bryan once compared the doors and they seemed to be .2ish sec slower, and with 3 doors that you need to wait for, it adds up to a full .6 at least. All my 47s are PAL and I'm pretty sure my 00 47 wasn't high either.. :p

Oh the pain, the sorrow. I still have sleepless nights about that record, waking up in a bath of my own sweath;) . Not sure whether PAL is disadvantaged on Depot A, it could also be my misery gaming skills:) .

But there's no doubt that PAL is disadvantaged in general, especially when there's a lot of look-down involved. Streets, Surface etc. Sent me a NTSC system, and you'll have me back on the GE podium. Who volunteers?:lol

The diffrence on Turbo mode was quite obvious but i think that's becouse of the roller door being slower or something.

I also think i read somewhere that the music thing that comes as you walk up the stairs comes later on ntsc. So either that's becouse ntsc is faster or becouse music isn't the same synch as PAL.

Yeah the music is much different on pal. if you compared my archives 16 music to a pal archives 16 youd be amazed at how much faster mine sounds, but in reality its probably very similar.

I got depot 26 like 5 times last night for fun, basically i hit the train and its a guaranteed 26 lol. also got like 6 28's with no ts. Im pretty sure the pal disadvatage in depot is 100% bogus. glen got it in 10 minutes on pal and he got stuck on the door before the end, so yeah. Also, one of my 26's last night featured a boost into the train lmao. great stuff.

You really wanna know my imput.

Someone gets a 52 on dam0, omg.  So life-changing, so incredible, it's one fricken second lower than 53.  That's one more second I get to pwn some noob in multiplayer in the future.  Sure, someday it'll happen...

Actually. Nobody gives a poo about your "Imput".

Edit: Also I think your missing the BIG picture, after all milk and cheese come from cows, soap comes from whales and snooker tables have 4 legs, sometimes they can have 6 or 8.

Now let me ask you a question. If it takes a man a week to walk a year, how many apples are in a barrel of grapes?

mine sucked too, seems like most people underestimated what could be done on Facility, and Bunker 1 00A many people said 1:07 :p

Easy.  Apples are bigger than grapes.  So I might call it a big deal.

Now tell me about the times that'll never be found.

LOL @ anyone who didn't put Clemens in top 10 (everyone but boss and I)  He might not be ranked there but he sure belongs.  Looks like Eddie or Jimmy preds were bad too.  GJ anyone who called Cavs 1:02 as well.

DAA is Clemens if anyone didn't know.  His old board name had that as initials.

And with that this is the time for what is probably the last update this year...
The surprise comes from the fact that this is the first time this year that the same people are at the top of both rankings; In fact, Bosshardt, Illu and Tyler Wishall are taking the 3 first spots of each, but in different orders...

I will make an update on the main page and in this thread when the year is officially over.

Also for people interested, I will rerun it for next year - I will make a new thread (if it's not already made) the 31st December and provide a link for predictions from that day to the 5th-6th of January.

Edit:

With the year 2007 over, it's now official that Boss and Illu share the gold on the first rankings while Tyler takes the bronze; and weirdly enough, Tyler takes the gold on the second rankings whilst Boss and Illu share the silver.

Thanks!
And...If you're not listed in there Alex, it's because you didn't enter your prediction on the site, and thus aren't in the database (and appear anywhere in the ranks).
It may not have been very clear, but in fact it was to everyone to enter his own pred. I feel really sorry for you if you did that well and aren't named, but I guess I'll make an update very soon...

I'll make another post to remind that rule for this year (in the other thread), and in case some people still don't do it, I will probably enter their predictions myself, in order to avoid this next year.

Oh and if someone else has a similar request, please let me know as soon as possible.

Wait you had to go to a another web site to type in your preds? Also you dedicated one small little line to talking about going to another site, kinda lame and very easy to miss.
Whats wrong with guessing on the boards and using that data......
Title: The Sylvester-Tip 2007
Post by: silver angel on January 02, 2008, 05:19:00 pm
Guessing on the boards does not pose a problem in itself; it's just that the odds of making mistakes when counting is high, and also that tallying manually everyone is very boring. Besides, the advantage of having a database is that it allows to check at any time of year the ranks and people's preds compared to the current times.

Now, if I asked to everyone to enter his own prediction, it was just to avoid having doing them all myself, and I didn't check that all the preds posted had effectively been entered on the site. Apologies if it wasn't clear for everyone...

I counted my picks, 30 correct with a second-wise of 35. Which beats gold. I'm sure somebody else, beat that even. Alex did 39 on second-wise.

Ok, so I suppose we'll have to make 2 rankings for this year, because it wouldn't be fair neither for players like Tyler Wishall who have followed the evolution all year long and who finally won something, to be suddenly relegated lower...So something like "regular" and "extended" ranks...I'll take care of that in the days to come. Also, I can't take Leonardo's prediction due to its date.

Oh, and congrats sir for your good call (https://forums.the-elite.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ezboard.com%2Fintl%2Faenglish%2Fimages%2Femoticons%2Ftongue.gif&hash=7cfc888ebd66cf455a55fd5e124ee8267da91148)
