I broke out my G/Fs brother's old N64 and started to play his GoldenEye. I haven't played in years as I'm not really into video games anymore but it remains my favorite game of all time.

I started out by looking for sales figures for GE and stumbled (thanks Wikipedia) into this whole culture of people still interested in the game and competative play. I was fasinated by the video's of "Aztec Strat Master" beating the entire game in 45 minutes and most interesting is the Facility level in 57 seconds (this was/is my favorite level). I watched the video a few times and tried (without success) to imitate the strategy, I died a few times and then I noticed the game said (Best Time 0:51 seconds).

I asked my GFs brother about this and he said he and his cousin played a lot and doesn't even remember doing it that fast.

Could this time be an Agent Time showing up when I played on 00 agent mode?

Either way, would this be a new fastest time?

The time was probably achieved using a Gameshark.  Either way, we wouldn't accept the time without video proof of the run.

Well yea, it would be the fastest time, but its pretty much impossible.  The most likely way this happened was that a gameshark was used to falsely input that time of 0:51 into the best time for 00 agent.

In fact, recently, a tool-assisted (perfected) run was done on this level, and the result was a time of 0:54.  0:51 is impossible and yea, I guess it was done by a game shark.

I can assure you I have no interest in submiting this as some kind of accomplishment. I asked him about it and he said they just kept playing it a bunch of times, I think he would have remembered if they rigged up a game shark to fake a time on one level, all the other levels seem right on targer for a decent player (all within reasonable time of accomplishment).

I suppose I could grab a screen shot from the TV, but if you can use a gameshark to fake them then I guess it's not worth the memory it takes up.

Either way, I was just wondering if this was actually a record time or not

Other than game shark, I don't know how it can be done.

Anyways, yea, don't worry.  You seem like you're cool enough and we're not going to flame you or anything. :)

I work the nightshift now, so I sleep during the day usually.  Plus I need to share my computer with my sister now, so yea, sorry about that.  I'll try to get on more often when you're on. :)

I don't think 54 is maxed,,, with another mine boost somewhere and better strafing, and a good Trev, I should be able to save enough time to cut the time down to 53. I will be trying for this time in my second "good copy" TAS of the game, whenever that may be. I still have to finish this first one.

52 is a humonguous strech, and 51 is likely impossible, as Goose stated earlier.

Err, sorry about that.

If your friend or brother or whoever didn't use a GameShark to get 0:51, someone who borrowed or previously owned the game probably did.  That's about the only explanation that fits.  Or the people you know have bad memories.

Yeah, I once borrowed a GE cartridge from my brother's friend and he had on there all aztec difficulties under 1:30. Gameshark indeed...

p.s., this was about a year b4 the non-jaws strat was even discovered :lol

You can also enter the in-game cheat codes and it will save your time.  So enter turbo-mode and there you go.

I don't think a complete newbie can get even near 51 on turbo mode.

And about the discussion in general, there are untied wr's on pretty much every cartridge that's bought second-hand.

I believe there was no PBC for turbo mode. but still, there's no point in arguing, unless he comes up with a (fake :P) vid

Alec, it is actually possible to get under 51 seconds on turbo mode without a GS. You'd know this if you weren't so lazy and ignorant and actually looked up the best time for turbo mode on 00.

I mean like, just beacuse you can't get 51 on turbo, doesn't mean its impossible.  You got 58 turbo and we get 57 normal ;)

When I was at Matt's sometime last year we got 0:16 or 0:17 on Facility 00A (fastest exit) with Turbo Mode and walk through doors with action replay. It's truly insane - you hold your breath for the entire level. I don't think we made a video of it, but we should have.
