Some questions...
« on: June 11, 2006, 06:27:00 pm »
Wow, I actually had an account on here. I wonder if I ever used it?

Anyway, I'm working on a speedrun of this game,,, and I have some questions. I'll probably have more as time goes on, since I'm only really familiar with about five levels. I'll keep my questions to here, to not clutter up the board.

For now, I was really just wondering if every sliding brown door in the game can be warped. I'm having trouble warping these doors in the facility,,, so I'm either doing it wrong or it's not possible. I never have problems with the door like this at the end of the bunker though...

Any help would be appreciated.

be more clear about what kind of speedrun, but you can count on it it's already been done, and sounds like you're not in a state to go after any of them. I suggest you do Diddy Kong Racing or Donkey Kong 64, those games need to be run :smokin

all of those metal sliding doors (dam, facility, bunker 1, silo, surface 2, bunker 2, cradle) can be warped.  There are many that don't need to be, and a few that can only be warped by switching to a certain gun.  I would reccomend watching some vids to see how the pros do it. ;)

I'll get a DKR speed run up.  We usually do them every Christmas over at Gamefaqs.

Poeple still play DKR??

The easiest way to warp Facility doors(cause those are really tough to warp) is to switch from either gun or mine to the watch. If you do that it should make things easier.

And btw, warping doors are pretty useless when it comes to speedruns.

for DKR I'd watch a speedrun, either finish game asap, or get 100% or perhaps mirror mode adventure or whatever else the game had

Thanks guys,,, I did watch some facility vids, turns out I was just switching weapons too soon.

I have another question now,,, though.

Is there any way at all to speed up the dialogue with Trev in the tank room? As is, it seems you have to kill 5-6 seconds at the end of the level for the objective with him to complete.

I tried shooting him in different spots, at different times ( like with Statue), but this only failed the objective

I doubt it's possible,,, but thought I would ask/suggest anyway.

Now I must sleep, but I'm sure I'll have more n00b questions for yas soon :P

Nah, pretty sure it's impossible, Trev dies with the slightest of touches on any difficulty on fac. Good idea, though.

Well, to beat DKR, you actually need to complete everything but the Future Fun Land Trophy race, so a 100% run would just be a normal run + that.  As for Adventure 2...that seems pretty pointless.

Anyway, I'll do one of these this summer sometime.

Okay, I'm having some problems at Runway now.

For the nade strat on 00, I can never seem to break the two drones at the end of the runway. I've gotten a direct hits, while the drone was and wasn't shooting, where the grenad detonated right in the middle of the drone, and it still wouldn't be destroyed.

I'm also thinking now, that maybe even a prefect nade run would be slower than the tank, while you do need to go out of the way to get the tank, you still need to run way ahead on the runway to be in throwing distance of the last two drones.

What I'm asking is,,, is it actually possible to destroy the last two drones with nades, and how do you do it?

It is possible but very very hard. Unless you have 38 and want 37, don't even bother with the nade strat.

So,,, what you're saying Henrik, is that even with a perfect throw, it's still up to luck whether or not the drone will actually be fully destroyed?

nope, just no one has yet been able to actually complete that strat in a good time.

We THINK that if the WR were ever to be 37 on runway 00, that strat would be used, but until then, use the tank strat and get 38. ;)

Yeah Alex, Me and Bryan has, possibly some other poeple as well. I believe Bryan failed like a 37.

And no, i don't think it's luck destorying the drones, im just saying dont bother with nade strat, its too hard.

Speaking of strats, on archives, Are we 100% sure that going the wr way after safe is the fastest way? It just felt so fast going the other route(full strafe safe, Head to the right, out both doors in right strafe, open next door, shoot glass). However, it's much tougher and i have no idea how to get the second door open.

I might be totally wrong about this, but i tried both ways before but i wasn't able to determine which one's faster.

I think I failed 36 only missing the battery with nades. But you'd get raped way too hard to survive or throw the nades correctly the way I did it without invincibility.

Interesting comment there on archives. I don't even know where this other exit is, but it's funny that after all these years there could be a faster route for this tiny level. I assume you could get an extremely easy box explosion boost when exiting if you exited via the other exit. exit. exit.

What Henrik means is...

Instead of exiting Mishkin's room the way we do now, we go back the way we came but make 2 rights. Assuming the doors are open from guards coming after you, all you have to do is open one door and exit...it may be faster, MAY BE.

Yeah, still it would only be a matter of tenth's if it indeed is faster.

I'll try and see if i can get a vid up later today.

'Nother question, this time about the Bunker.

For Boris Running, is there any way to make him try to hide faster, and, is there some trick to making him run past the mainframe room? I tried just now a few times on my nintendo 64,,, and for me he always seemed to just hide on the left side of the large room (the side without the camera).

What I have been doing, is just getting him to put up his hands as quick as I could, and then run towards the glass door, after a few seconds he does start to run, but always goes to that side of the main room, and nowhere else.

And thanks so far guys, for the small help you've given me :)

consult the following for some amazing Boris manipulation:
dan01.com/Wouter/Wouter%2...ailed).wmv

I don't think you can let Boris run straight away and have him go to the MF room. you'll have to find the earliest time you can live him by trial and error, and I believe the chance for him to go to the MF room is bigger when he's out of your view, he seems to usually take a left upstairs when you see him.

And damn, I thought you were some n00b wanting to do a console speedrun, you should have mentioned you're from the TAS, I didn't know until you posted in that other topic about it. Good luck with perfecting Boris and all.. :)

obviously what matters about that vid is how Boris ran to the MF room doors, and I stopped him nicely. You could get him inside the room, but it would be pretty tough to manage it well and not lose time from the guards and all.
