Aztec idea: Kill the guard behind the mainframe quickly and fire the rest of the 6 bullets as you run to the next guard.  Get to him quickly as possible and then have him see you but not fire so he can get to the glass as fast as possible.  Open the mainframe as soon as you can.  I don't think it'll matter how far behind the blast room guards are, the first guard can still open the glass, you'll just have a better chance once all 3 get there.

That's pretty much the normal strat except we wait for the other 2 to see you.

Anyways, Yesterday i was fooling around(not really, they are all based on logic) with new luring strats and came up with this:

Basicly do everything like normal but when you wait for the guards, Dont stand on the mainframe, stand where the guard were, Just behind it(note that this strat works better if you had an open mainframe). Now wait for them to come and just run as quickly as possible to glass and pause for the disk. My experience with the running method(also used in my other luring strat) is that the guards way more frequently go to the glass. Several times i had all 3 guards in the middle of the glass.

I was thinking maybe this could work and get you a real fast time.  Do the strat where you let closest lured guard see as fast as possible and then not fire.  Then as fast as you can run to close the mainframe and get to the glass.  Wait at the glass the normal amount of time before opening the mainframe.  It might help to fire some bullets right as you get to the glass.

That's really not much diffrent then the "1-guard strat" which doesn't work(at least very rarely). So i guess you'd want to do it like this: Lure exhaust guards, Let next guard see you AND the exhaust guards. Now run to the glass and optional, Fire some bullets.

Honestly is runway(a) 0:23 the easiest older wr to get, because I have had 4 Bunker(a) 0:18's in the past one of em was taped but I threw the tape away because I wasnt even posting and new no one that is a proof mod in 2002, and I was thinking about how low or high my 0:18's were so I could go for 0:17 later on. But seriously Runway(a) 0:23 for me is a bitch Ive read Bryans strat, but I would like some input from other players such as Wouter the God of GE(bows)

i find archives 17 easier then 23 and 18 combined.

though 23 is easier then 18, which is also easy:|

18 is the most luck-based of the 3 old WRs.  How often do you get an 18 on an agent run?  You're more likely to get 17 or 23.

How old of a record are you talking?

Anyways, I think runway 23 is BY FAR the easiest 90+ point time/old WR.  Not exaggerating, like 85% or more of my runs are 23s.  I won't get 22 using the strat I use, (throwing nades at ground)  but its much more consistent than throwing nades in the air, unless you're good at that.:p

It all depends on the player though.  I find archives 17 and dam 54 hard even now, while runway 23 and depot 27 are easy like pie.;)

assassin, just claim your 18.  Its a common time.  Its easy.  Its not like you can't get it, nor anyone needs to see proof of an 18.

85% 23s?  nice.  I get about one in 20.  but i guess i dont play that level much now........

CONTROL:  QUESTION FOR TEH BOSSMAN

briefly tell me exactly how YOU time your exits.  Thats a part of the level i cant get my head around...

I also lose 3 seconds in the first room usually, but that will improve with practice.  Tough @#%$.  Making it back before th lift closes on 00A seems impossible, nice job!  I take 10-15 more secs....grrrr

There's no really consistent way of timing the elevator exit on Control, you just have to take the risk of failing it, but we try to enter like 17-18 sec after Nat's last message has dissapeared since that's the fastest she can complete. Often if you go fast to the exit you have to wait 3-4 sec before entering the elevator.

Good Job on the frigate sweep Wouter, even if you haven't SA untied yet at least ;)

Wouter, was the gun switching in the after the pipe warp to help make the hostages warp?  Cause I think that might work.

It would really be something if somehow someone could get really good at saving the engine room hostage while running to the bomb.

With frigate SA, how often does A complete?  I've played the level probably 12 hours by now, using the current WR strat, and had them escape only 3 times.  (twice were with failed something :p ) Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I can't see what.

For me it took like 5-10 hours just to get my first completion under 1:16 with the new strat, which was the 1:07.

Me and a friend played some 2.3 Controller-style goldeneye yesterday, and i discovered a thing that can take a hole second off caverns. It would be good if someone actually can tell me this is cheating or not.

The thing is, when you play "co-op" the second player can't press start nor cut the "intro-vids". We got to caverns and I always seem press all kind of buttons to cut the scenes because my friend didnt. I discovered that you actually can do some wicked things before the game have even started. Like pressing A+B on Surface 2, you will hear the detonate sound from mine (I wonder if i ever changed weapon before i pressed A+B).

Anyways, here is the big deal:

You can open the elevator door on caverns before the cutscenes is over (Alec starts running instant). If you press B on the second players control just before you cut it, the doors will be open and with some good strafing and maybe Alec stuck somewhere i think almost a second is gained here.

I also fooled around on other levels trying to get the "cheat" to work on other levels, if just like a step forward on bunker 1 and you could have opened the door. I cant come up with any more strats..

But, can this be legit?

Damn, Wouter would be pissed if someone did that on Bunker 1 and got 0:17. 0:16 might even be possible if the door was within reach :

It probably would save the best time and stuff and be considered legal that way, then you can have opinions of it ofcourse. Nice find though, I knew you could do something on the outro sequences with those control styles but I had no idea you could even on the intros.

There MIGHT be time on Bunker 1 for player 1 to open the FINAL door before the second players cutscenes have finished :eek  .....but it might not stay open for 17 secs, hmmn

this is amazing :D

and another......on Surface 1 (for complete co-op play) one player could head off to the computer while the other goes straight to the locks.  Then the first player has an open hole for....1:00?  W00T!!!!!!

it's not cheating.. it's another league. rankings are for single players, so also for single player input. and I thought you have to walk a bit forward on b1 anyway to reach the door. it's just out of reach from the starting positiong as far as I remember.

2 controllers but the inputs are split up. Like one controller fires and the other one strafes etc. The thing is that 2.3 is glitchy so you can shoot during ending cinemas and stuff(very effective on egypt).

Can this be used for Control? I mean, You got lots of time to pause back to normal mode there :)

Correct me if I am wrong, but with 2.X control styles, you cannot strafe.  You wouldn't be able to go fast enough to get good times.  It would be useful for the "no strafe league" though.:p

Streets SA/00A.....

well ive been playing 00A.  And concluded that PAL is just as good.  BUT my biggest issue comes with leaving Val.  Surpose my Val talk matches Bryans SA vid, and i leave at the same time....

well my clock switch is like 0.8 slower.  I lose an insane amount of time there!  F**king impossible.  Is there any tip to good strafing in that section?  I cant see myself coming close to a 5:14 switch, which would be really helpful.

You wont gain time in Bunker 1 because you have to walk forward like a tiny bit to get the door to open. Same with Control. I quickly did a brainstorm of the levels that you could actually save time in the begining. Bunker 1, Control and Caverns.

But it would be hard to do a 2.? style strafing, like caverns. Caverns has a kinda advanced type of smooth-strafing. Wierd find though. I dont know if it ever going to be used.

My best is 13.7. But in the last 2 sessions, the best ending was only 49.63 :x

I had 1:03:27 from a mistimed Val exit.  That was a mid to low 1.57.  My best run so far.......

I already said that about b1. why do you first say you won't gain time on b1 and then you mention 3 levels where you can save time in the beginning and you include b1.. how contradicting.

Yeah it would probably only work on Control and Caverns since those are the only levels that you start close enough to a door.  That could be what I need to get 3:59.. not sure how much harder the start would be with 2 controllers though.

Well it's agent so i guess it's not *that* hard. But you would need someone to hold the second controller(OR, You could just rebuild them into 1 controller ;) ).
