The Sylvester-Tip 2008
« on: December 31, 2007, 12:49:00 pm »
After the insane year we can have witnessed (report tomorrow on the sylvester tip site), this year may lose a bit of interest since many times are now considered humanly maxed. Or else this is just being wrong to think that, and another insane year is coming, with untied WRs from Ace, Clemens, Boss and maybe some new talents such as Henning Blom...
Wherever the truth lays, you're welcome to give your mind on the subject and enter your sylvester tip prediction here
Once you will have made your prediction, you will be able to copy your pred and paste it here on the boards in order to avoid having to write it a second time.

yay fun!

Dam: 0:53 / 1:17 / 1:57 (strafed lockshot + good ratio = 157)
Facility: 0:45 / 0:53 / 0:54 (00A is gayer)
Runway: 0:22 / 0:23 / 0:35
Surface 1: 1:02 / 1:49 / 1:49 (I think I'll give this another shot)
Bunker 1: 0:17 / 0:22 / 1:04 (22 is alright, 21 would be too luck based)
Silo: 1:03 / 1:10 / 1:26 (102 is too insane)
Frigate: 0:23 / 1:01 / 1:08
Surface 2: 0:49 / 0:53 / 1:26 (might stay at 127 if i dont go for lower, though)
Bunker 2: 0:24 / 0:47 / 0:58 (58 is already pretty insane)
Statue: 2:19 / 2:19 / 2:18 (less boosts on SA)
Archives: 0:16 / 0:54 / 0:54
Streets: 1:13 / 1:55 / 1:56 (00A is too annoying)
Depot: 0:26 / 0:43 / 0:50 not much to say about this level

Jungle: 0:51 / 0:54 / 0:56
Control: 3:59 / 4:09 / 4:11 (358 seems too nuts)
Caverns: 1:02 / 1:20 / 1:38 (i think sa strat will be too hard to live, 120 might not even happen but figured Id put it out there)
Cradle: 0:34 / 0:35 / 0:36

Dam: 0:53/1:17/1:59
Facility: 0:44/0:53/0:54
Runway: 0:22/0:23/0:36
Surface 1: 1:02/1:49/1:49
Bunker 1: 0:17/0:22/1:04 (Don't think this will go lower unless someone starts challenging dave)
Silo: 1:03/1:10/1:27 (I think maybe RI BB or DC can do 00A, but I don't think SA will ever be beaten cause it was just one of those magical runs that will never happen for anyone again)
Frigate: 0:23/1:01/1:07
Surface 2: 0:49/0:53/1:26
Bunker 2: 0:24/0:47/0:58 (I can see flaws in 58, but I dunno if it will ever be perfected or even bettered)
Statue: 2:19 sweep, since boss had so much trouble with 2:18 and he made it sound like its something super perfect.
Archives: 0:16/0:54/0:54 (maxed forever?)
Streets: 1:13/1:55/1:55 (1:55 HAS to happen!)
Depot: 0:26/0:43/0:50 (If 49 is possible odds are you would get everything to go right and make a stupid mistake and blow it) :P
Train: 1:01/1:26/1:52 (as mentioned yeah lower is waay possible, but who is gunna try?)
Jungle 0:51/0:54/0:56(The TAS of agent is freakin 50, 54 looked like another one of those once in a lfietime type runs, 00A is maybe improvable but probably will not happen)
Control: 3:58/4:11/4:13 (I know virtually nothing about how good these are, even from years of lurking here reading pretty much all the WR discussion and such :P)
Caverns: 1:02/1:20/1:37(Something tells me 1:37 will pop up someday.. and SA 1:20 is a nice even number, but 1:02 is staying for atleast 5 years like 1:03)
Cradle: 0:34/0:36/0:36 (clueless again, so i will pick the defaults)
Aztec: 1:31/1:39/1:44 (lower can be done, I think illu is done here though but he can prove me wrong if he wants to or maybe somebody else will? dave is close to being as good at the level with his 1:32 agent)
Egypt: 0:45/0:46/0:46(Agent is soo much easier than the rest, so possibly a 45 could be hit someday)

and illu, your post makes NO sense at all!

Dam: 0:53 / 1:17 / 1:57 (1:17 will be tied though, at least by Clemens)
Facility: 0:45 / 0:53 / 0:53 (I. or Boss gets 53s)
Runway: 0:22 / 0:23 / 0:36
Surface 1: 1:02 / 1:49 / 1:49 (Clemens can get this )
Bunker 1: 0:17 / 0:21 / 1:03 (21 can def happen w/good quickpauses, and no other top players have completed Boris strat yet)
Silo: 1:02 / 1:10 / 1:26 (if Goose starts playing again, better 00 strat)
Frigate: 0:23 / 1:01 / 1:07
Surface 2: 0:49 / 0:52 / 1:25 (I bet 1:25ish will happen by Clemens or Boss soon actually)
Bunker 2: 0:24 / 0:47 / 0:57
Statue: 2:19 / 2:19 / 2:19
Archives: 0:16 / 0:54 / 0:54
Streets: 1:13 / 1:55 / 1:55
Depot: 0:26 / 0:43 / 0:50
Train: 1:00 / 1:25 / 1:50 (maybe Henrik will tie 1:01, then Ace will beat it and improve the others as well)
Jungle: 0:51 / 0:54 / 0:55
Control: 3:58 / 4:10 / 4:12 (I can see 3:58 happening with better start and earlier exit)
Caverns: 1:02 / 1:20 / 1:36 (better 00 strat)
Cradle: 0:34 / 0:36 / 0:36
Aztec: 1:31 / 1:38 / 1:40 (no body armor on 00 is bound to happen )
Egyptian: 0:46 / 0:46 / 0:46

It seems as though I'm the new Peyton Manning (doing good stuff but not getting much attention with Pats undefeated streak, or in our case Clemens/Rayan dominating GE/PD respectively)  I hope not to be a sucky 3rd by the end of the year because that would be quite disappointing for sure.

Ok, it seems that I haven't been clear enough...So please, before writing your prediction for 2008, it would be nice if you could fill the form at the following address:
http://quentin.meunier.free.fr/sylvestertip/prediction.php

So far, there are predictions of:
Bryan Bosshardt
Eddie Lovins
Drag
Goose
Jack
Matthijs Triep
Tyler Wishall
Octoinky

However, for people who don't want to bore with that, I'll enter their preds manually.

Note for Ryan: I have two preds for you, one named Ryan White and one Goose. I'll take the latter since it corresponds to what you posted, unless you tell me to take the other.

Yes, please take the latter (Ryan White).  I was confused since I made preds before I was able to post, and then couldn't get back to them.  Last year you had a page where you could see everyone's preds, and that's what I was looking for but couldn't find.

I went on a limb with Silo 00A, but the rest are within reason.

Silo 00A is not on a limb at all, especially now that it's tied.  I even dare say 1:24 is pretty conservative.

3. David Clemens
4. Ilari Pekkala
5. Ryan White
6. Dan Cervone
7. Wouter Jansen
8. Leonardo Santos
9. Glen Stevens
10. Alex Anderson

I figured Rayan would probably tare GE apart if I sent him a GE (NTSC), which I possible will by the end of this month or so. If Bryan keeps playing I think he'll still remain 2nd. Leonardo will pass Stevens.
The reason why I didn't put Henning in Top 10 is not because he don't have talent. It's just that I don't think he's going to spend that much time playing to get into top 10. I think he's aiming towards better times instead, like lowering an already good PR.

On the predictions I didn't go nuts. Statue is probably insane, dam 00A is possible, silo would be nuts, I just guessed on B2. I would atleast want to see 1:55 streets by the end of this year, and 1:02 Surface would be incredible. I'd say probably Train SA is the most unmaxed one of the Train WRs, so I figured Rayan maybe could lower it. Ilari could probably take Jungle 00A down to 55 with some luck.

Dunno what Rayan can do to GE with a ntsc cart.. It seems like alot of WRs are incredible good now. I had a hard time even finding stuff I feel people are actually going to lower in the future.

We finally are a total of 22 predictors, great work team!
For the people for whom I entered the preds, please check as soon as possible that I didn't make any mistake on your prediction.

Also, one side note for ParaGod64: before predicting Facility A 44, you'd better predict 1'58 on Dam 00 (though I didn't enter 1'59 but 1'58...)

If the last two years are any indication, I think its better to have predicted more times gone and lower total times.  Just think, as of Jan 1 2006, Archives 56s were still the WRs, along with Facility 57s, s2 00 132, b2 00 106, S1 150s had only BBDC (the other DC), train was 107/143/211, jungle was 53/57/58, aztec was 135/144/154 and even something like Egypt 00 47 was still a stellar BBWJ.

With all the top GEers still active there's no reason to think that we're gonna stop owning as much as we did in the past couple of years.  Here's to a WR abusive 2008!

That's what makes the predictions so hard. Every year one wonders the same thing. "Will the pwnage finally slow down as we become closer to the maxes? Or will the pwnage continue to limits we never expect."

If Boss gets it this year, then Ace is a good pred for next year.  If Clemens gets it this year then I'm predicting Cowen Hames, and if Ace gets it this year (like he should) then I'll predict Henning for POY.

Silver Angel, could you perhaps implement something so that this page also shows what a predictors maximum number of correct times and minimum seconds off the total time are. That way we can see who still has a good shot to finish at the top and who was too conservative and has a high number of correct predictions and isn't far off in time, but will lose one (gain one for the seconds off) with virtually any untied set. On top of that, it would be a nice stat anyway . Maybe you could add parentheses: 40 correct times (50)  or say ''40 correct times out of a maximum of 50''. Ditto for seconds off, but then with minimum (20 seconds with a minimum of 10).

I had this idea last year already, but was too lazy to state it.

Drag? ;-) (I think you didn't really understand what Matthijs talked about )

Matthijs: I'm not sure I exactly got what you mean: by maximum (for correct times), you mean the one which could be eventually reached, and not the one the player has had right?
So, for example, right now Death Shang would have a maximum of 60 correct times and a minimum of 0 second, that's it?

If so, that's indeed doable and I'll add it when I get a little time. At a time, I also thought of putting in a different color a correct predicted time (on individual pages), which has changed since the beginning of the year. I might do it as well too.

And Brandon, as for adding your pred, I personnaly have nothing against it (since you posted before Ace 1'25), but I'm sure eventually people would complain about that, not to mention Laercio who did post before you (but unfort. not his table), so...unless everyone tells you he agrees, I'm sorry but I won't add you...

Can you link to the pages where we can keep track of the progress as well?

@ silver angel: yeah I actually meant 1:57 for Dam 00 Agent, but you setting it to 1:58 is fine. i dunno how I did not catch that mistake since i reread my post after I posted it
