Anyway, it's time for some fun statistical ANALysis that shep has specifically demanded. First off, here's a scatterplot of final scores in the contest vs. shep's grades:

If you include all of the scores, the correlation (r) between grades and scores is an astounding 0.167. This means that shep's grades accounted for 2.8% of the variability of the scores. However, if you remove those two outliers in the bottom left corner, the relationship gets a bit stronger, but as QB suggested, also becomes negative (r = -0.276, r^2 = 0.076).
Another fun fact is that those earning A and B grades were outperformed by those with D and E grades with means of 830.5 and 980.9 respectively (2-tailed sig = 0.026).
