I liked this Hugely Muscled Headripper play - http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=3292944

He pancakes the LE and then slides up a level to make another great block on the SS.

So after working on the kickoff coverage teams, I took a hard look at our kickoff and punt return teams and diagrammed the blocking so I could figure out who goes where. I upgraded the personnel a bit, and also tried to load a bunch of blocking talent on one side (our right side). Both return units share the same depth chart but the players are placed a bit differently in each. I wanted the punt team to be the main focus since there are more opportunities, and it's perhaps easier to return a punt. The teams should look like this:

Kickoff return team:

Majestic Moose-----John Swaine---------------True BloodE-----Thillu Awesome-----Gwen Stebully---------------Jacend Bonebreaker-----HM Headripper

-----------------------------------------------------------Rick Rollmeister-----Zedno Oakgrove-----Supa Odin--------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------Super Comet Destroyer------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Punt return team:

Majestic Moose----------True BloodE---Supa Odin---Rick Rollmeister-------Zedno Oakgrove---Thillu Awesome---Gwen Stebully----------HM Headripper

-----------------------------------------------------------------John Swaine---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Jacend Bonebreaker--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------------Xavier Chovlovski-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ngamer's Game 11 Commentary

- guess we'll be receiving the rest of the year to make up for all those times we started on D.
- ouch, look at these guys swarm to the ball.  you can tell this D is in a league of their own compared to the last two teams.
- I was going to excuse that 3 and out on no one being open, but now I see that all 3 WRs were blocking.  what the heck are we trying a QB sneak for when we need 3 yards?
- on the plus side, fantastic punt and even better coverage.
- awesome, we force a 3 and out of our own.  looks like we've carried over the shutdown up the middle D from the last two games!
- Sasq Uatch: easily one of the better names we've seen this season.
- ahh, a strike to N. Blood.  looks like we may have to rely on the pass this game...
- gosh, we are getting no push against that D line at all on these runs.
- Ng's leg looks great so far... too bad I get the feeling it's going to be getting worn out very quickly here.
- that was crazy, drag was going for the tackle and got blocked by the WR way over to the side, putting him out of position so he missed.
- Alex H missing tackles isn't a shock, but I don't see why Jim didn't reach out and make that one earlier.
- they're avoiding Shade on the right, but really exploiting the left side of our D line on these big runs.  I don't like the looks of this.
- ugh, and after a great stuff by the right side, they go right back to the left and could have drove a truck into the end zone.  who is this Gustacho guy, and why's he being dominated by a single blocker every run?  Tiag and Roids are doing awful jobs of filling the hole he's leaving as well.
- yeah, great run out of Raven.  Shade set it up with a fantastic block though.
- oh no, but Shade follows it up by getting Raven owned on a short pitch.  I can't believe we couldn't pick it up from a half yard out!
- whoa, but despite getting 0 rest, the D comes back firing on all cylinders.  come on offense, let's see you start play some inspired ball now!
- UGH, and drag gives it right back to them.  at least when Raven fumbles he generally gains 10 yards before doing it; that would have been a bad return even before the fumble.
- and the D is burned for a big TD.  yeah, saw that one coming... you can't leave the defense out on the field for 8 out of the last 9 minutes and except not something terrible to happen.
- hmm, really good return there.  I sure hope this is the game's turning point!

SECOND QUARTER (14-0, Vamps)
- bah, thought we had something going there.  ah well, at least we'll force them to go 80 yards this time.
- right side of the line stops them dead, then Antonio gets blown off the ball for yet another big run.  sorry, but for big games like this we need to be subbing out less on that line... Brian and Shade and Nari get the job done, this Gustacho most certainly is not.
- hey, picked it off!  don't know what they're doing throwing into triple coverage when up 14, but I'll take it.
- Octo, Hank, Yoko, SZ rushing into the area as well... these are all are big studs, and yet they've haven't managed to open a single hole all night.  I can't believe what I'm seeing here.
- dang, you can usually count on Shade and NB to pull down catches even after deflections every now and then, but it's just not happening tonight.
- look at Shade, taking on two blockers and still sticking him at the line.  what a man.
- holy smokes!  I have no idea what we're doing throwing a bomb on third and short from such dangerous territory, but what a result!  I was just going to say that going into halftime only down 14 would have been good given how badly we've been dominated, but jeez, we're within a score all of a sudden.
- ...what in the...  I was just going to say how fired up that play must have got our defense, then Comet goes for the INT and allows a huge TD.  I was sure he was going to knock that down while it was in the air... blaaaah.
- no idea how Paddy Jo got that one off; looked like the DT had him sacked for sure.
- ouch, two missed tackles on that gash up the middle.  that's a sure sign of an exhausted D... hope they can hold out until the half.
- awesome, forced the punt.  now hold on to the ball for these last two minutes, guys!
- I realize he's the best option, but jeez, we've thrown to Shade like 90% of the time this half.
- wowza, but now he's caught like 3 out of the last 4 deflected passes.  I can see why we're doing it!
- eh that's ok, I'm glad we went for the FG even though it didn't have much of a chance.  the important thing is we've left them with almost no time to work.

HALFTIME

THIRD QUARTER (21-7 Vamps)
- sure wish we could get back that Comet burning... but still, being back only two scores after getting pushed around for all but a few minutes last half isn't that bad.  and the D should be coming out decently rested after that last drive... I think there's still some hope for us.
- what the CRAP?  awesome job by Beef to punch that ball out (and nearly punch it halfway across the field in fact).  but for pete's sake Ladies Man, run with it!  oh, THAT'S why you didn't run- you have awful hands!  great vision by Comet to fall on top of it after all that craziness.
- they rushed all 3 LBs up the gut and just left the 4 DBs back in coverage there, and totally blew up our running play.  can we try something like that on defense every once in a while?
- isn't there supposed to be something like defensive AI to say "hey, they've thrown to Shade on all but 2 plays this game- maybe we should double team him"?
- thanks heavens for Ng and his glorious leg of fury!
- eh, can't really blame Comet for that one... he was left out there covering two guys, then got picked by the one WR while the other ran by.
- whew, barely avoid disaster on that long pass, and then force the punt.  good stuff D; once again doing what they can to keep us in the game.
- whoa, now we're moving the sticks even without Shade on the field.  there's a good sign.
- I don't know what's more shocking- that we were actually able to run for a short FD, or that we somehow once AGAIN fell on a fumble to save the drive.
- hoooray, got it to N. Blood over the middle.  would have been awesome if he could have broken that FS's tackle.
- what the junk is up with the QB sneak suddenly becoming a part of our playbook?  this is an even worse idea than HB passes!
- good gosh, we picked up a FD by inches instead of missing by inches!  stop the presses!
- YES!  that is without a doubt the best drive of the season for this Sea Team.  they've got our running game shut down, but we're doing just barely enough through the air to keep moving the sticks.  then to come so close to settling for a FG twice, but instead stick it to them with a deflected TD pass... amazing!
- haha, and then Goose gets off the perfect kickoff.  you can tell the adrenaline is rushing through our sideline!
- I knew we could count on the D to play shutdown ball after such an impressive extended drive.  I can't believe I'm saying this after that disaster of a first half... but we're right back in this thing!
- oh wow, Shade somehow comes down with the ball.
- we pick up the FD by a half yard again, wowza.
- shoot, I hate having to punt from there, but not much else we could do... was still a few yards out of Goose's range.

FOURTH QUARTER (21-14 Vamps)
- ahhhh, so close to forcing the early punt, but then their RB broke Shade's tackle by a half yard.
- Brian Scorecoff blown off the ball for a big run?  never seen that before.
- that I'm more used to; Antonio owned by a single blocker for a gash to the left.
- crud, and then they're able to hit the long FG.  I'd have liked our chances if he'd have pulled that one.
- and we once again score a FD and third and short.  whatever else happens this game, at least we've made a major improvement in that area.
- oh my stars!  Vampires one tackle away from nailing the coffin... but N. Blood heroically busts through it, and THEN ANOTHER on the way to the potentially game-saving pickup!
- ugh, Axel had a step on them, that was a TD if only Morter could have gotten more air under it.
- pass to Shade comes up just short, but that's not problem, as it turns this into basically a point after chipshot for Goose.
- ...which he somehow misses.  WHAT?
- the D continues to play its heart out, forcing a 3 and out and getting us the ball back with decent position.  now we just need to go 50 yards to force the overtime... but oh wait, GOOSE MISSED.
- I'm running out of adjectives for Shade.  this second half he's been doing exactly what I was talking about earlier- pulling down almost everything in sight, regardless of deflections.
- bah, but not either of those.  that's alright, still have two more throws into the endzone to make!
- holy heck!  I didn't even understand what happened there until the replay.  good awareness by Raven, but Shade is clearly having the best game of this or any other lifetime.
- wait, because they had possession of the ball we get a free set of down?  whoa.
- YES!  obviously this still leaves us in a terrible position since they can just run out the clock, but oh well; I'm just really happy that Shade gets rewarded with that TD.
- boooo, they need to program in an onsides kick.
- and that's the ballgame.  what a game!

FINAL SCORE - 24-21 Vampires

Today's Anti-Soggy Sea Team Game Ball goes to... Goose.  Unfortunate, since he had a fine game aside from that one play, but eh, it's the single mistake that kept us out of overtime, so not much of a decision here.  A terrible shame that a performance like Shade's has to go unrewarded, but unfortunately I can only award regular Game Balls after victories.

I agree the QB runs aren't great, but those are clearly QB draws, not QB sneaks! 3rd and 3 is a perfect time for a QB draw. Unfortunately, NO running plays were working against the Vamps. If we meet them again, we'll throw the football down their throats for 60 minutes.

No idea why Lark's Antonio was in so often. I intentionally had the DTs subbing a lot because we've got guys at level 9, 8, 8, and 8. Antonio is 5th in line and has special team duties to occupy him.

We have a distinct advantage next game, as long as our defense holds up again, we'll be alright. I'm sure we can put another 14-21 points on the board which should be plenty.

http://speedrunwiki.com/Goal_Line_Blitz

I created this today.  We can use it as our team page so we don't have to sort through a huge topic like this if we want to find something real quick.  Send me an IM with your referral and profile links and I'll add them in there (it's easier to not add everyone's profile right away so I know who doesn't have a ref link up yet).

Ngamer, figure out how to fix table column width on the wiki please.  I tried for awhile but just got frustrated.

If anyone has any other ideas for the page, post them here or on the talk page.  I plan on adding a section for results at the end of this season, and maybe a section for records or something like that.  Also if we want to have a "wanted positions" section so new players know what to sign up for, that would be pretty easy to add.

Ngamer's Game 13 Commentary

- starting on D again, cool, thought those days were over.
- Come missing a tackle?  never thought I'd see the day!
- shoot, they're moving the ball with ease.  as good as our D has played this year, it seems we always have trouble on the opening drive for some reason.
- what the duce, Roids misses and then makes his own tackle!  weird things always seem to happen to him.
- great stuff, the D comes up big in the end to force the FG.
- ha, excellent run by Raven, but the real reason was that fantastic Shade block.  he not only pancaked his DB, but was in such a good position that the SS got stuck behind him as well!
- hooray, NB runs a 8 yard pattern when we need 7.5.  glad we finally figured that one out!
- shoot, Shade's having trouble pulling down the deflected balls.  hopefully he heats up and starts catching them later on, like he did last game
- bah... 39 yards is a toughie of a FG, but still thought we could count on Goose because this is his Redemption Game.
- the important thing, though, is that we had a nice sustained drive, which means you can almost always count on a 3 and out coming up.
- ha, and we do one better!  Comet knocks the ball down, then picks it right off the next play.  what a superstar!
- dang, can't believe we didn't do anything with that opportunity
- ...what the CRAP?  first Come misses his third tackle in three attempts, then Comet misses, then Shade comes from ALL THE WAY across the field to force a fumble.  just crazy.
- this is cool... even though this is a quality team, we've been able to run on them with authority.  very strong improvement from last game

SECOND QUARTER (3-0 Sea Team)
- three cheers for Goose!
- whoamg, ANOTHER fumble.  what's up with us becoming ball-tearing beasts all of a sudden?
- a one yard pass to the RB when 10 yards are needed.  so refreshing to see other teams trying that instead of us these days.
- yikes, that was nearly punted down to the 1 yard line.  would have had to chew drag out something awful if that happened!
- bah.  as I've said before, I wish we would turn to SZ more often on 2/3rd and 2ish.
- so solid against the run today, that's another strong change from last time.
- the D stiffens to force the FG again!  atta way boys.
- ohhoho, and now someone ELSE misses an easy 20something.  luck is swinging back to our favor!
- good golly!  I'd have settled for just moving the sticks there to eat up time down to the 2 minute warning, but instead Catchy's man goes for the INT and gets burns down the sideline.  wow, what speed from Catchy; he might even have outrun Speedy Ax there!
- dang it drag, you're at the 20 yard line!  return the ball from there!
- oh good heavens, thought for sure that was going to be picked off at the 15 yard line.
- what a heroic punt from Ng, considering he was standing under his own goalposts.
- gracious sakes, another forced fumble.
- oh, what the junk?  pack was right there in his lap.  I can't believe that wasn't picked off, let alone knocked down.  bah.

HALFTIME

THIRD QUARTER (10-10 tie)
- well now, that was a very strong first half for the Sea Team imo.  frankly these Outlaws should be very pleased to have escaped with a tie game, because frankly we were only a couple mistakes and bad breaks from having a sizeable lead right now.
-  continue to put together consistent offensive drives.  I really like to see that, because QB's scouting report mentioned that this team is very talented up front, but has almost no bench.  hopefully we can keep grinding and then really expose them in the 4th quarter.
- aww nerts, what a horrible place for a drive to stall out.  I wish we'd run the ball for 5 yards and set Goose up for a long FG attempt instead.
- such a shame that this fantastic D (which just forced yet another 3 and out) got credit for giving up that TD last half.  with field position like that it was almost impossible to stop
- oh man, what an athlete Shade is.  first with that quick burst to create separation from his db, then with the presence of mind of run a great line up the middle and get extra yards off it.
- haha!  if they're not going to defend it, just try the same slant again- and this time it ends up in the end zone!
- another forced 3 and out.  I can't believe how pass-happy these Outlaws have become- maybe they're under the impression that they're down 17 points (which they honestly SHOULD be)
- jeez, they just keep right on firing away.  our CBs and safeties are having the games of their lives back there batting all these down.
- gracious me, these Outlaws have gained as many yards off recovered fumbles as they have regular rushing plays today!
- tee hee, Ladies Man bats down one pass and then picks it on the next attempt, just like Comet before.  ok Sea Tea, let's put a drive together to change this field position battle, please.
- shoot.  at least we got one FD, to end that dry spell.
- well, we keep getting pushed back to our own 20 or 30 and losing the field position battle.  good thing all this punting back and forth is also winning us the time left on the clock war.

FOURTH QUARTER (17-10 tie)
- well now, that was about the most uneventful quarter of the season.  since we've got the lead though, that's a very good thing.
- ha, those last two attempts show why they've given up on the run.  our D line has no doubt had another great game today; you're just not going to see it in the stats because they were never tested.
- wow, I can't believe they even tried that FG from 44 yards out.
- I don't know if we've just become more conservative with our playcalling, but this offense has really ground to a halt since the last TD.  normally that wouldn't bother me, as we're killing the clock pretty well, but I had been hoping to get the O rolling against their subs in the 2nd half, and that's just not happening.
- oh noes, we finally move the ball past the 50, and then Paddy throws a pick the next pass.  come on D, pull us out of the fire again!
- all this action to Q. Blood is confusing... whatever happened to NB since that first pass he grabbed?
- and right on cue there he is, making an outstanding over the shoulder catch to move the sticks!
- drive yet again shudders to a halt, but no matter- at least we've taken back the field position game we'd been losing all half.  plus they only have 6 minutes left to work with.
- I don't get it... after nothing but pass for three straight quarter, they decide to mix in 50% run with only 5 minutes left in the game?  we ought to win this thing on poor clock management alone.
- hurrah, we've switched over to all run on offense!  honestly I would have been ok with going to this two drives ago, but good to see it now in any case.
- hey hey, and we're not only killing the clock, we're also gashing them for big gainers.  now THIS is how you expose the soft underbelly of a team without defensive depth!
- and there's the final whistle.  the Sea Team has pulled it off!

FINAL SCORE: 17-10 Sea Team

Today's Soggy Sea Team Game Ball goes to.... Comet!  The entire defensive backfield was superb, but this was the game where Comet really showed why he's the All Star of the unit.  6 tackles, 7 passes defended, plus an interception- what a night.  Check out these stats between the two Space Rock Brothers combined though: 13 tackles, 1 INT, 1 fumble forced, and 7 passes batted down.  DK's mother must be so proud of them right now!

Ngamer's Game 14 Commentary

FIRST QUARTER
- whoa, we always get burned on the first drive of the game, yet against the best team we've played all year (potentially), we somehow force a 3 and out!  what a start.
- ...until that happens.  dang it drag, from the 10 yard line and out you need to attempt returns!
- what the junk?  we had two guys blocking a single NT, and yet he not only stops us for no gain, he also forces the fumble?  this can't be a good sign.
- dang, N.B was open on that route as well, just missed him
- thank goodness we could count on Ng to uncork the punt of the year!
- ...wow, just wow.  if you're going to be giving a 5 yard cushion, drag, you might want to expect that he's going to catch the ball in front of you and you'll have to make a tackle.
- well would  you look at that, now we're moving the ball against this vaunted defense with ease!
- and Shade's already pulling down balls off deflections.  great to get him fired up early.
- BAM, we rush it right up the gut for a TD!  great work boys, that's exactly the response we needed.
- ...what the CRAP just happened?  I was about to say how you can always count on the D for a 3 and out after drives like that... not a 1 and 6!  Come's slow response to that play as it developed was downright shocking.
- hmm, were able to move the ball a little bit there again.  I guess on the plus side, the D is going to have to be well-rested, since all 14 points they've given up have come on, uh... 5 plays?
- holy wow, what a SuperLeg kick!  alright defense, no excuse for not getting the ball back into our hands with excellent field position now.
- oh gosh, they're blowing enormous holes through the right side of the line.  couldn't we bring PDO or Nari over to plug those?
- neat, we stuff them on 3rd and 2 to limit the damage.  good return by drag- looks like we'll get this back in a very doable position after all.

SECOND QUARTER (14-7 Thunder)
- great work by SZ to seal off that end and let Raven sneak by.  I continue to be very pleased with how the offense has carried over the momentum from the last two weeks.
- ohh, come up just short of the end zone.  no matter; got in another very good drive, and the D should be primed to redeem themselves from here out.
- yes sir!  Comet swats it down to force the 3 and out.  momentum swinging back in our favor now!
- ugh, that Gator guy ate two blockers alive and ruined our short running play once again.
- whew, good work by Nari to get around the end and stop what would have been a big gainer on third and short.
- N. Blood!  there's no one better at going over the middle and pulling down those clutch balls to keep moving the sticks.
- and he does it again, despite having three guys in the area!  plus, it's enough to pick up the FD by inches; boy, if we could have been doing that earlier in the season, we might still be undefeated.
- ack, but Raven can't quite pick up the next FD on that run.  this is going to be tough...
- and Goose misses it.  can't except makes from 45 yards out; that scoreless drive is certainly not his fault.
- bah, I don't like how our LB are filling the gaps on the left side when it's been the right that's been exploited for big runs all game.  still, good work by Roids to strip that ball away at the end.
- oh my, didn't even realize it was so close to the half!  no wonder we were dropped back so far and playing conservative.  and there's the gun!

HALFTIME

THIRD QUARTER (14-10 Thunder)
- boy, you've got to be pleased with that score as a Sea Team fan.  after the way this game started, it sure looked like things were going to be getting out of hand in a hurry.  but since the first two drives the defense has really stepped it up, the offensive has been consistent and impressed me a good deal, and hey, we get the ball back to start the half.  just need to catch a break or two down the stretch and we could easily win this thing yet.
- ...come on now!  I said CATCH breaks, not give breaks to the Thunder!  Smooth seriously needs to start working on his hands, this is just getting ridiculous.
- very strong recovery by the defense, despite the short field Smooth gave them.
- hey hey, and there's a missed 45 yarder of their own.  we're still in fine position
- oh man, fantastic downfield blocking by SZ and Q. Blood to help bust DJ for a long one.  though I'm curious why he's getting all these caries instead of Raven...
- gah, can't blame Yoko for that sack, he was already tied up with one man and couldn't have stopped the other guy rushing up the middle.  once again I'd like to suggest how cool it might be if we were to throw in an overflow blitz like that every once in a while, just to keep things interesting.
- for pete's sake!  3 guys in the area of the one WR, and yet Come cheats to that side instead of flowing to the TE breaking loose on the other side.  at least he had the footspeed to catch up and stop a second long TD.
- again I must ask... why is Smooth getting all these carries?
- right side of the line exploited again.  could we do anything to get Nari up at the line of scrimmage, and just leave the TE to Roids and Come?
- yessss, FD catch is dropped.  here's where having such an awful kicker is sure to bite the Thunder in the rear!
- ...and yet he hits it from 41 yards out.  honestly now!

FOURTH QUARTER (17-10 Thunder)
- down only a single score to a quality team like the Thunder is a pretty strong position to be in.  let's take advantage of the situation with a scoring drive here, boys.
- shoot, a yard short of that FD.  really fine blocking by Shade though, wouldn't even have been close without him sticking his man out in space.
- such good work by Ladies Man, giving up the pass but making a solid stop just before the FD marker.
- son of a submariner, fail to convert on 3rd and 1.  I don't quite get it... the o-line isn't getting dominated today, they're just running the wrong way and failing to make blocks pretty often on these short yardage runs.
- whoo hooo, defense coming on strong here at the end of the game, there's yet another quick stop.  love to see this; now do something with this opportunity, O!
- do we have some kind of sub pattern going on where Raven only enters the game on 3rd and 4th downs?  if so I have to say that I disapprove- he's too great a talent to be spending that kind of time on the bench.
- have the ball back and are driving with 4 minutes left.  here comes the tying score!
- yeah yeah!  even though SZ came off his block too soon, Raven busted through the tackle and finished up 10 yards downfield.  you see what I mean?  this is the kind of explosiveness you don't get out of Smooth or anyone else.
- oh nooooooooooooo!  Blood was triple covered, Shade and Axel were blanked, there were really no good options there... but at LEAST don't throw it 30 yards downfield into double coverage!  on third and 10, sure, but not first and ten!
- the demoralized defense can't force the three and out, and time runs out on a dejected Sea Team

FINAL SCORE: 17-10 Thunder

Today's Anti-Soggy Sea Team Game Ball goes to... Come.  A shame to have to award this to a guy who has played so well up until the last two games.  drag would certainly be in the running as well, but even though his two early mistakes put us in a big hole, we quickly crawled back out and evened things back up.  The TD Come gave up right after was the true heartbreaker (and getting beat in coverage a couple times later in the game didn't help his case either).

Boy oh boy, going in I thought a one score loss to a very good team like the Thunder would have been plenty respectable, but after seeing the way this played out, I was wrong.  This one really stings- take back either of those two ugly TDs right of the gate or the silly INT/DJ fumble and we could have taken this win to the bank.  I just hope we're not hit with this kind of bad luck in the playoffs!

Nobody has the stamina to play every down, so the best I could do was to make sure Ravenloft is forced into the lineup for all 3rd and 4th down attempts. He's also forced into the game for the last 5 minutes or so. In fact, there's no time when he's actually forced out of the lineup. If we keep converting 1st and 2nd downs, the game will eventually bring him back in when his energy is high enough. The unfortunate thing is that some of these same sub settings forced Morterback to stay on the field for the last few drives, and really I think Patrick is the better quarterback right now. We have to look seriously at giving him the starting spot from here on out.

If you look at their stats directly Morterback is the better rusher/Patrick is the better passer. If I see another smooth fumble again this week I'll go bonkers.

Did you also happen to switch your training to intense, Alex? You aren't gonna be ready for tomorrow's game.

You're not starting because of your low energy, which is exactly why I asked about training! Anyway, it's not like you won't play at all.

Edit - Sorry about all this. If you really trained relaxed yesterday, this isn't your fault at all. It's mine (and Matis's!). Matis's intense training had him so tired that I had to pull him from everything but special teams, so the rest of you had less backup than usual. It also didn't help that you and Infil were on special teams also.

Ngamer's Commentary - Playoff Special

FIRST QUARTER
- here to announce what's sure to be the first of two playoff games, IMO!
- the only thing better than starting out on D is starting out with a 3 and out!
- ...there's plenty better than THAT, though.  eh, can't blame Comet too much, that was just an excellently-placed punt.
- I hate when defenses overload one side and blow up our O line for a big loss.  not because of the loss itself, but because we haven't done it ourselves all year.
- that was odd... how did Axel let himself get caught from behind, when he needed another yard for the FD?
- great work by the D, forcing the FG despite having to deal with such awful field position.
- down 3-0, despite not having made a mistake all game.  that's the kind of momentum-changing difference a great punter can make.
- my oh my.  what a Shade- no other WR in the league makes that catch.
- and then we can't pick up the half yard to keep the drive moving.  urkkk.
- ha, busted coverage leaves Comet trying to defend 3 receivers.  and yet he splits the two blockers and still makes the tackle!
- hey hey, and now we stomp on THEIR 3rd and short run.  feels good to turn that around.
- oh for heaven's sake!  I gave him the benefit of the doubt last time, but come on Comet, you can't let a great punter like this put us in a hole AGAIN.
- wow, Hasse stuffs two runs all by himself.  what a stud.

SECOND QUARTER (3-0 Thunder)
- oh boy, swatting down what would have been a TD.  now there's the Come we knew all season!
- well, it does suck to be down 6-0 when we STILL haven't made a mistake all game.  but oh well, a score here will put us back in front.
- ah, there Axel went just far enough to move the sticks.  that's more like it.
- fantastic blocking by N. Blood, SZ, and octo on that run.  but juking out that FS was all Raven!  I smell a touchdown pass coming right up.
- oh shoot.  all season long I've been campaigning to hand it off to SZ on pressure short yardage downs.  then here we try and he gets blown up in the backfield!
- not a problem though; only down 3, we finally get out of our bad field position problem, and plus I'm sure the D is going to play great after that long break.
- ack, we're owning their rush with ease, but I can't believe how easily they're picking apart our pass defense on every third down.
- Alex H got picked off easily by the FB, allowing for that big gainer.  that's the kind of block you could shed to make the play... with 100 energy.
- instead of 3rd and 7s, we should always force them into 3rd and 1s- seems to be the one stop we're getting tonight.
- ugh, why can't this kicker ever miss?
- honestly though, we're lucky to only be down 6 given the terrible field position we've been facing all day.  and that continues to hold true, and a Comet bobble on that return costs us a good 10 yards.
- ...oh now that's just absurd.  that looked like a perfectly good pass to Catchy, and yet it goes as an INT.  can we rely on the overworked D to force yet another FG?
- ohh, great knockdown by Come to potentially save the day!
- cool, the D was so great they don't even have a FG chance.  unfortunately there's no time left to complete an 80 yard drive...
- ohh, but Raven unleashes a great run anyways.  glad to see he came to play today!
- dang it all, haven't seen Shade flat out drop a pass in a long while.  and that one really hurts, because he had the kind of separation he needed to break a long one.

HALFTIME

THIRD QUARTER (9-3 Thunder)
- even though we didn't make any huge mistakes that quarter, we didn't play wonderfully either.  and on top of that, all the breaks went against us- all things considered, I have no trouble being down only 6 at this point, especially since we're getting the ball right back.
- really fantastic block by Axel there to spring Raven for an extra 4 yards.
- oh wow, moving the ball with authority now!  down inside the 10 in the blink of an eye.
- sitting pretty on the 1 yard line... come on guys, we need the touchdown here to set the tone for this half.
- UGH.  I realize this team is tough up the gut, but you've got to work in at least one running play from the 1 yard line!
- oh heavens.  so close to forcing what would have been a perfect 3 and out, but instead they keep it moving and finally hit for a 30 yard touch.  drag was beaten soundly on the coverage, yes, but Come should still have been offering help over the top to limit the damage.  that one really hurts.
- hmm, well at least we're doing a sound job on this offensive drive instead of being demoralized.  doesn't do us good unless we can put points on the board though.
- ...oh, come on now!  firstly, what is T. Blood doing in the game instead of N, or even Q?  secondly, that looked like another perfectly good pass to the receiver that instead bounced away for the pick.  and this one is awful, because we had points coming from that drive for sure.
- two excellent knockdown by pack despite his being in single coverage well on the outside.  I hope drag is learning something as he watches this from the bench.
- well now, forced the perfect 3 and out and will be getting the ball back with very good field position after all.  I guess this wasn't such a disaster after all.
- you've got to be kidding me! this is enough bad luck for 4 games, all rolled up into the most important single game of the year.  absolutely disgusting.

FOURTH QUARTER (16-6 Thunder)
- ohh, the SZ on third and inches trick pays off there though, nice.
- wow, great catch by Stretch, and good blocking from Axel to spring him.  was one broken tackle from a TD!
- SZ comes through in the clutch again.  I love when my advice works out!
- 5 minutes ago I'd have been very happy with putting points on the board, but with the time ticking down we may have needed the touch there...
- ha, so funny to watch them try to run to wear down the clock against this solid D line of ours!
- what the crud Paddy Jo?  N. Blood was wide open and had the FD all sewn up.  you can't throw it 3 yards over his head in a situation this crucial!
- gracious me Roids, he was standing in front of you for five minute!  feel free to make the tackle anytime!
- bah, forced the punt but allowed too much time to pass before doing so.
- okay, only 2.5 minutes left and we need two scores.  could we please stop running the ball?
- come on Axel, you have to come down with that.
- right decision to not attempt a miracle FG there, right decision to throw it in Shade's direction- but we come up a yard short on the 2008 season.

FINAL SCORE 16-9 Thunder

I think for the most part, it's just opportunity. You get more plays as a ROLB, but the plays go in your direction less often. Anyway, if you want to get to the ballcarrier more often, I'd say up your speed, vision, strength, and agility. Your tackling should be plenty high now that you're using wrap-up, and your stamina and confidence look good for a while as well. The other things (jumping, catching, etc), I wouldn't worry about much at all.
