ATTN Trent

If there's any way possible you could go to DC around 7 or so to pick up Infil and Duff, we'd be in your debt:)

Update 03-04-09:
What date works best for you?

Andrew:  ok
Wednesday Night through Sunday Night would work best for me
either that or Thursday night through Monday night
(which actually works better)
So, some possible dates
August 6 to 19
*August 6 to 10
or August 13 to 17
================================

There have been several discussions regarding a possible meeting next year, and many points that would need to be touched upon/discussed. The earlier we start getting things ironed out the better (besides, Axel Z said I should go ahead and post something)

I guess the first question is this: Is there enough interest in doing another big meeting next year to make it worthwhile?
This would come down to whether or not enough wanted to come (there were 16 full time people the first time, and 23 full timers this year), and what they would consider being "worthwhile".
Does being "worthwhile" for you mean that a certain # of other people need to come?
A certain person (or persons?)?
That there must be more than the last two years?
or just that if they're hosting one, you'll be there (this is my stance)?

While I am not 100% positive that there would be enough interest to make it worthwhile for people. I am assuming that there will be (judging from the responses from the last two years).

The next two big questions would be: Where is the location we want to host this meeting? and When/How long will the meet need to be?
While I would vote for hosting at the Weathertons again next year (if they would be willing to host), there are those who have expressed that they wouldn't mind meeting somewhere else should an acceptable location come open.

The current location is well established, it is pretty perfect location wise for the east coasters (although this precludes many west coasters) and for Europeans (as DC is close by)
The only two big issues I think against hosting it at the same location would be size and time.
There were a few people that expressed that we were getting a little congested this year, sleeping quarters wise. While that was somewhat true, I'm confident we could fit a good 35 people in there pretty comfortably (as Mr. Weatherton stated that they slept 40 at the house before, BEFORE they had the basement installed), I think getting to around 40 would be getting a bit hairy. I don't think we'll hit 40 this year, although down the line we may if this gets bigger.
This has led to the discussion of splitting the karters/eliters. While I wouldn't be totally opposed to this, I really prefer having both communities involved. The biggest issue here would be, if we split it, where would the others go? The main host is a karter, so I don't know how he'd feel about kicking the karters out to the curb
There was also some, joking, discussion about holding tryouts to be able to come to the meeting, if we got too crowded, or to go by invitation only (although that won't happen, it was pretty funny discussion)

As far as time for the meeting... I think that either early or late Summer is perfect time wise for most people (especially those who have classes). This year fit right in between my summer class and next classes starting (although it encroached upon some people's classes). One problem about the summer, is that traveling prices are a lot more expensive in the summer. In light of this, there has been some discussion of a smaller winter meeting to be held somewhere if someone would be interested in either hosting/attending one. It would be much cheaper, although harder to attend due to classes.

As far as timeframe for the meeting. Having it at 3-4 full days is fine for smaller groups... although this year we reached time crush trying to fit in the competitions. I'd prefer to have a longer time period, so that we could spread out the competitions better, as well as have more down time to just have fun (the football, frisbee, swimming, boating, etc.).
The biggest problem with the current location is that the Weathertons are gone quite often during the summer time, and would have a difficult time in hosting a week long meeting. Although I can talk with Andrew about possibly extending it if I could.
And there's even a problem with hosting a week long meeting: its much easier to get time off work for 2-3 days as opposed to a week (for those that work full time)

I'll leave these main points up for discussion for some time, and we can progress from there

Are you serious? Of course! And the Weathertons' is definitely fine, although it would've been nice to have an extra day this year, but I'll definitely be working full time next year so I guess that wouldn't be an issue for me then.

I thought it was a silly question myself, but I thought it safe to cover all bases from the beginning, as some people may not have enjoyed it or considered it worthwhile to make it next year. If enough felt that way, then it wouldn't be worth the trouble to plan a major meeting, IMO.

But, I don't see that happening

Well the fact that only one person that went last year didn't come this year says something.

Booth is talking about a kart meet next year out west with also some chicago discussion thrown in so that should take care of kart (mostly people who didn't come VA way). Throwing out 6 people because they are karters makes no sense either. Perhaps next year we just eliminate playing kart as a tourney though the biggest issue with that large of a group is just finding everyone to go do something (playing tourney matches/whatever).

Layne and JT and Liz would most likely come to this meeting, however, and Josh is the 3-year in a row champ at kart, so I'm not sure.

If we had just pure karters, we could cut all of the eliters from that tourney together, and just run a 12-16 man kart tournament, would be best IMO.

While I have no idea where I'll be a year from now, I'm definitely up for exactly what we did this year.  I personally spent a lot more time outside than I did last meet (didn't even touch the lake last year outside of being in the boat), yet also felt like I did a lot of gaming as well; so I really don't have any complaints about lacking time to do things.

This was perfect, and I'm totally OK with invitation-only (starting from those who went to this year's + Jon Mertz, and going from there based on probability of being able to fit in tournies and sleeping quarters, to how popular they are). Obviously if someone like Alecboy would want to go, we'd shoot him down immediately. Keep Kart/Elite meets together, or you will kill what these meets have established.

doesn't that kill the spirit of it if it were invitation only? Even not being that way so far, we've still not drawn too many people, or anyone that's particularly unpopular

Don't separate the karters/eliters, that's for sure. I can't imagine being without Liz and PYL and the other karters and player next meeting. That would feel so empty.

I don't care if we have 40 people next year, I'm not uncomfortable by too crowded areas. I could even do some manloving sleeping in the same bed as someone, as long as others get the space they need. I'm sure my favorite Adam is up for bumsex.

As for the Weathertons, I can't come up with any better hosts. The house/boat/ everything else is a part of the meeting I think. Could you imagine getting a meeting without that now that you had it once or twice. I'm fine with just the people, but plus all the activities made this one of the best things that has ever happened to me.

Make it at Weathertons (if they're fine with it), make Karters/Eliters together, and I'm up for it 100%. You could start planning for next meeting right now, that way the Weathertons would know about it in advance and can plan their trips and stuff without the meeting getting in the way. I can't actually see how getting a bigger house is possible

EDIT: They could also have a bigger fee. I mean 75$ is ridiculously cheap!

75 is cheap but some of us (stinson stash) havent paid in full yet. I think 75 is reasonable anyway...25 people equals 1875. That is a nice chunk for some costco shopping. If its more it doesnt sound like a problem. I'm sure its not about the money for them its more or less about the time they have off to supervise everyone there.

We definately need more tv's and systems so that everyone can play stimultanaueosly. Or while people are playing matches others can play. It still was just fine anyways, everyone did different things as well some out-door activities. I cant see a bigger place to hold an event like this. Besides I havent even seen whats in half of the doors that I never opened at their house anyways im sure there are enough sleeping spots. Worst comes to worst we have to pitch a real tent. One that isnt inside the house ...clark....it would be a rotation or something for people to sleep outside in the wilderness. Something like that anyways. I'm trying to purchase a house but I highly doubt it will be anything close to what the weathertons have to offer.

also, from what I said in chat:

NathanStinson (11:40:58 AM): will we need more tv's next year, Jimbo?
GoldenJimbo007 (11:42:05 AM): Yes
NathanStinson (11:43:21 AM): how many?
NathanStinson (11:43:28 AM): I think that having the two tv's in the sun room
NathanStinson (11:43:30 AM): would be fun
NathanStinson (11:43:34 AM): just rearrange the couches
NathanStinson (11:43:46 AM): because, two groups playing kart next to each other is so much fun
NathanStinson (11:44:17 AM): that's the only thing I didn't like is the isolated feel.
NathanStinson (11:44:25 AM): maybe they'll have the bigscreen upstairs fixed also
NathanStinson (11:44:35 AM): and, if they did, we could just do the kart tourney's upstairs and in the sunroom
NathanStinson (11:44:42 AM): and downstairs and the basement could be GE
NathanStinson (11:45:01 AM): I don't foresee there being more than 16 serious karters, although I could be wrong
NathanStinson (11:45:22 AM): we'd need two more gamesharks
NathanStinson (11:45:24 AM): but that's doable
NathanStinson (11:45:47 AM): and, if we had extra time, we could do the 5 kart rounds fully
NathanStinson (11:45:56 AM): which would be more fair, with everyone playing everyone
NathanStinson (11:46:01 AM): which is the original idea
NathanStinson (11:46:06 AM): and that would take care of that

Plane tickets from Australia to the US are ridiculously expensive. So much so that I can't see a 3 day meet for a couple grand being feesable... not that I don't want to! I should know what I'm up to by around January, so not ruling it out.

Once someone has invited me, add me to the list of prospects.

Do not split the kart people off or anything like that....I'm kind of pissed that they are trying to do that anyways...everyone at one place is way more cool.

I think my odds are a lot better next year for me going. I will have much more money and stuff, and since i will be between classes for school, i can probably take a vacation from work for a week or so and make it to the meet. I guess the only inhibiting factor is whether or not i really want to even go.

Could be cool to have the next swedish championships at my school, would make up for one hell of an arena and an big audience even hehe... anyone in the school could join in too, I don't know yet if there's any here that play GE. Though I'm not sure I'd want too insane amount of participants so I'd like to make some plan, like tell people at the school to have practise rounds or something and those who meet some demands could participate.

But yea I'm not sure at all this will be possible though, just a cool thought but I did talk about this with one guy and he said it would be really cool, he hasn't played GE for ages probably but he did like the idea.

Damnit no one considered my idea of throwing out Pistols-LTK-exclusiveness on tournament matches; this time the underdog picks the stage AND weapon settings/health.

Actually slappers only can be very random at times. Don't want to change the LTK setup. I don't even find GE multi that fun with other settings actually. We could play more of these kind of matches on the side of everything. IMO LTK settings should be played during the tournament.

I would withdraw support of any GE tournament that wasn't LTK-only.

If you want weapons, bring them into play in Perfect Dark matches, where people can actually die in less than 100 shots.
