Welcome to the official topic for the 2009 Elite Deathpool! For those of you that don't know what a Deathpool is, visit the page on Wikipedia for general information ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_pool ) or last year's topic to see how it works (http://perfectdarkelite.yuku.com?topic=13376)This contest will be maintained by Come and Ngamer. Competitors will have the chance to earn fame, glory, and perhaps even some great prizes! ...*cough*
Here's how it's all going to workPick the
ten different people you think will expire in the year 2009. One "Death List" of ten guesses per person allowed. Your score at the end of the year is calculated by taking the age at time of death of any dead people you selected and subtracting it from 100.
Example: You pick Barry Bonds (b. 7/24/64). He dies in March 2009 (age 44). You earn 56 points for that pick.
If you pick someone over 100, then you get no points for that person. The person who accumulates the highest total score at the end of the year will be declared the
Elite Deathpool Champion.
But to keep things completely fair and even-handed, there are of course some stipulations...
- You may only predict the death of notable personalities. This will be strictly defined by if that person has earned an entry on Wikipedia;
if they aren't important enough for a wiki article, they cannot be named in this competition (aka "
The 'My Uncle Jeff' Rule").
- Deaths will be counted only in the case of
"confirmable" deaths during the calendar year (aka "
The Osama bin Laden Rule").
- Picks must
be human (aka "
The Lassie Rule").
- No picks may be currently under a state-mandated
death sentence (or in a pending trial which may result in such a sentence), nor may their celebrity or fame be based primarily on their moribund state or
terminal illness (aka "
The Terry Schiavo Rule").
And most importantly of all...
- This administration
does not tolerate personally influencing the success of your list. If one of the 10 members of your Death List passes away under what authorities determine to be "
suspicious circumstances," and you are brought in for questioning as a
principle person of interest in the case, you
will only receive half-credit for your prediction...
regardless of whether or not you are officially convicted of the crime! Although this ruling is undeniably harsh, we feel it is entirely necessary in order to maintain the professional nature of this competition.
Secret Exceptions To This Rule: * Adam Dunkmaster * Shawn Johnson (suspicious circumstances regarding these individuals will actually result in a doubling of your points)Ties will be resolved by:
1. Most number of picks dying in a roster
2. Youngest person on roster to expire
3. Earliest roster turned in (if the first two tie-breakers do not decide it)
To enter, simply post your 10-man Death List in this topic. You have until
midnight on Wednesday, January 7th to make your final decision; no entries after that time will be accepted, and any edits made to a Death List after that date will result in immediate disqualification. If you do not feel comfortable about posting your Death List directly into the topic for fear of others copying your brilliant ideas, you can alternatively mail your 10 names to
ngamer@gmail.com or
Come's yuku inbox anytime before January 7th. Do so and I will post them into the topic for you as soon as entries lock.
Results will be constantly updated in this topic, and perhaps also in either an official Excel spreadsheet or a database-driven Deathlist webpage (if Jon ends up making it).
The champion will be announced on January 1, 2010.This topic will also be used to post about any notable recent deaths, whether they made any Lists or not. That should help to keep the topic bumped enough that we'll remember to update the score sheets.
