keep on going, happy PD-ing in 2009!
Thanks for voting everyone, don't forget to leave a comment and congratulate our winners!

Original Post:

2009 has started, yay! Before we look to 2009 to provide some hardcore PD competition, let's sit down and decide what the best WRs of last year are! Some people put a lot of hard work into those World Records, and they deserve to get some attention once again!

Check out the list of WRs that have been accomplished this year. WRs without proof, WRs that tied an untied from former years, or untieds that have been beaten by now, are left out of the list. I have linked any video I could find for each WR. What we want you to do, is to VOTE ON THREE WORLD RECORDS. This will give us a more accurate view on what people consider to be the best world records from 2008. If we get a tie in the end, we can always get a poll up. This way prevents some incredible WRs from going undeservedly unnoticed because of one possible super-mega-uber WR.

Make your picks out of this list:

WAR - SA - 0:45   (Rayan I., ??/01) VIDEO
Escape - A  - 2:24     (Rayan I., 23/02) VIDEO (tied by Red Bull, 27/04) VIDEO
Escape - SA - 3:16    (Rayan I., 23/02) VIDEO (tied by Red Bull, 28/04) VIDEO
Skedar Ruins - SA - 1:23    (Red Bull, 01/03) VIDEO
Deep Sea - SA - 2:59     (Red Bull, 31/03) VIDEO
Deep Sea - PA - 3:10     (Red Bull, 04/04) VIDEO
Escape - PA - 3:19     (Red Bull, 01/05) VIDEO
Skedar Ruins - PA - 1:30     (Red Bull, 06/05) VIDEO
Pelagic II - SA - 1:43     (Rayan I., 27/06) VIDEO
Infiltration - SA - 1:30     (Rayan I., 27/06) VIDEO
Pelagic II - PA - 1:59     (Rayan I., 28/06) VIDEO
Air Base - SA - 1:43    (Taka, 18/10) VIDEO
Rescue - PA - 2:46     (Taka, 01/11) VIDEO
Investigation - A - 1:27    (True Faith, 24/11) VIDEO
Rescue - SA - 2:17     (True Faith, 09/12) VIDEO

It would be cool if you'd give comments on your picks, but obviously thats not mandatory at all. You can't vote on any WR that's not on this list. Every vote will get one point, regardless of which you like most. We will make a poll in case of ties. Have fun everyone!

Last note: We will also get a poll set up for the 2008 Player of the Year, after Bully finishes his 2008 PD recap with memorable events and individual player/ranking/total time improvements. Make sure you keep an eye on the-elite.net, it will be posted as a news bulletin!

You have a week to get those votes in!

There is no proof of 2:09 so it is not on the list. Apparently you didn't even read my post, because it clearly says you have to vote 3 WR's and from that list.

1) Pelagic II - SA - 1:43
I tried really hard for the WR myself (when it was still 1:45), but I never got better than 1:47. 1:43 is just amazing.

2) Rescue - SA - 2:17
Just for the simple reason that the run is nearly perfect, close to it at least. 2:18 was already a great WR; seeing Clemens (someone who didn't play PD so much) getting this WR was quite surprising.

3) Deep Sea - PA - 3:10
Just for the sake of it, even though it's my own WR, it's my favourite WR. Cara also made a great vid of it. Was (and is) a 4 seconds untied, and I liked the run very much myself.

Pelagic II Special Agent 1:43
Didn't really see any mistakes in this run, which is very impressive for PII.

Deep Sea Perfect Agent 3:10
The part where he disables the megaweapon is amazing, and the whole run is just very impressive.

Investigation Agent 1:27

No one gives a shit about Bryan's WRs because no one can appreciate them until there is a vid. He has video making capabilities and still only makes vids every few months. And no, 8 hours of work/day isn't a good excuse. There's 16 leftover hours and no one jerks off for 16 hours/day with the exception of Steve Bryze, but even he uses the aid of blow up dolls.

Regardless, Bryan completely ruins all his accomplishments in GE/PD by not releasing vids immediately. He has perhaps a more tainted career than even myself.

well that may be your opinion of course Ryan. But to keep this topic official and fair, the rule is simple: we keep the unproven WR's off the list.

Oh yeah and I edited/deleted some posts of people who just have the single goal to ruin/spam the topic. You can curse/spam at each other in FFA or in a chatroom, but I will INSTA edit or delete your post if you do it on the PD boards.

go on!

There's a difference between opinion and truth, and in this case what I said is not opinion, it is truth.

1: Rescue SA - One of the most perfect runs this site has seen ever
2: Pelagic SA - I don't know about the difficulty of this mission but it seems really hard to get it through smoothly, Rayan manages this well.
3: P2 PA/Deep Sea PA - Tough choice here, both wr's are 4 second untieds and sets a new standard for their levels. I really can't decide which to go for.

2. Deep Sea PA 3:10

Clemens running into PD and getting WR of the year can only show how weak the PD players are.

Im actually amazed by how good PD wrs seem. I thought they would be easier, but even like Pellagic II Agent 0:49 seems better than a lot of my GE wrs to me. Okay, so a few are pretty horrible (chicago sa 27 , Invest 211 when that was wr, maybe 128 when that was)but overall I actually think they arent much worse than GE. P2 SA 143 is probably better than like Silo 123, cavs 137, cradle 34, control 359 etc. Either that or maybe I suck at PD more than I realize.

yeah Ryan, i disagree with your attempt to slam the PD playa's. i think that they are equally as good at that game (or at least slightly less, and only because i think there might be crazier strats to be found out in that game, whereas GE is nearing it's max with fastest strats) Ace, Boss, Taka, YE (who is he again? Bryan Youse?), Karl, Clems and Red Bull are all massively talented at PD. so, in short, you are silly Goose

YE is Ryan Dwyer. PD is harder to max...just because of its nature. More complicated levels, more guards a lot of the time, more lag in general, etc.

There are just a lot more random factors, which need to be taken into account. There is no such thing as getting a 'perfect' Elvis or Jon in Escape, or a 'perfect' run on Rescue PA. You will see mistakes in the WR runs, and that's why people think the WRs suck. I cannot blame anyone for thinking that way, but getting it all done perfectly is impossible.

Eh, all the "imperfection" means is that it can be beaten. Any top level player will see the run and think "well, that was a good run, but I can do better" and since WRs are always going to have room for improvement, they all of a sudden seem worse.

Mind you, this brings back into discussion that time/luck thing we talked about in GE which turned into monkeys playing for infinity so lets stay off that for now.

Watch Boxxy in the meantime. http://www.youtube.com/wa...QmpqF9G8E&feature=related

It's doesn't surprise me at all that this discussion evolves to some general WR discussion. The games differ too much to be compared on such insane levels as WR's, but if you really have to, I always look at it this way:

GE is like checkers, its simple as hell and therefor insane in a way that you can optimize much better.
PD is like chess, its (more) complicated on its own, and therefor impossible to be executed at the same level of "insaneness" as GE.

it's really easy to think ahead a couple of moves on checkers, there aren't that many options after all. If you look at Chess, the whole tree of possibilities gets so huge after only 2 or 3 moves, it's nearly impossible to match your skills in checkers.

G5 36 is still my best PD time I would say, but then again my post on this page about P2 49 being better than a lot of my GE wrs really makes me look stupid. I can do 49s easily now even with going all the way around the X Ray buttons, and thats not even with all possible doors being open.
