Them!

this is another movie to come from the post-atomic bomb era of the 40's and 50's.  similar to Godzilla and many others like that, this movie was actually really very good.  7.25/10

Wild Strawberries

a very brilliant movie that was beautiful.  just beautiful is all i can really say!    8/10

The Fly (1958)

good movie.  i actually think the Cronenberg remake is a better movie, but this was still good and carried many of the same emotions that i remember from the Cronenberg version.  fun to watch.  solid

7.25/10

Big Trouble In Little China

one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time!    such a treat to watch this every time (about 10 times now!   )

10/10

Can I get a list from Acke or anyone else who knows what movies change on the bottom of the top 250? I know Philadelphia Story sometimes gets in. I just want to kind of safeguard my list for a while

The Philadelphia Story
Glory
The Lady Vanishes
His Girl Friday
Brazil
The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)

these are some of the movies that has appeared on the top 250 at least once this year. Go here to find out more detailed info: http://www.timo-schreiter.de/imdb/

Congrats on that impressive feat!  Go ahead, by all means, check the films I posted above, they're all solid, although I doubt any of them will enter the top 250 again since imdb take new (or over-advertised) movies in favor more than never before. But you never know with imdb...

A quick google search found this: http://www.douban.com/group?topic=10481439/

as of Jan 21, 2010. Not up-to-date, but I think there was another list if you just google it that might be more relevant.

The Graduate (1967)

Like Afan said.  I just didn't get it.  It started out pretty decent and then deteroriated into nonsensical, illogical crap.  Sort of reminds me of Fight Club that way.  Meh.  One more off the 250 *angel*

All About Eve-

a wonderful movie!  beautiful acting and a gorgeous story.  the only complaint that i have is that it was about 20-30 minutes too long... otherwise fantastic!  8.5/10

The Running Man-

as far as Arnie movies go, this actually had a lot of watchability about it (though it was incredibly cheesy)  entertaining because it knows that it is silly... yet still entertaining... 5.75/10

Tsotsi (2005) - Surprisingly good. 7.5/10. Very unusual but good soundtrack.

Le signe du lion (1959) - This film was very gripping. 7.5/10

The King of Marvin Gardens (1972) - all I can say about this one is that it was one of the most pretentious films I've ever seen. Not a complete bore, though. Had some interesting moments. 5/10.

Husbands (1970) -  fascinating at times, but rather plagued by director Cassavetes habitual self-indulgence. Also overlong. 4/10. Good cast though I guess.

The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1962) - I expected a bit better, but movie wasn't bad at all. The film has a superbly crafted, unforgettable ending.

had a friend ofer to buy me a ticket to Resident Evil:  Afterlife 3D, do i went.  the 3D was great, but the movie is exactly what you would expect, maybe even a little less... it sucked

La Dolce Vita-

started off good, but over the next three hours it seemed to unravel a lot.  james bond without action pretty much.

I Am A Fugitive From a Chain Gang - pretty good, though at times it was a little unbelievable and was hard to take seriously.

Gaslight - also pretty good, Bergman's performance was great.

The Expendables - not very good at all. Some decent action sequences and some cool people in it, but the screenplay was so horrible. I was expecting this, but everything was just really dumb. I didn't care about any of the characters or love interests, who also were given no motivating factors or explanations for any emotional connection. CGI was also laughably bad in some parts which seemed crazy for a 2010 action movie.

Judgment at Nuremburg

very good movie.  i think it would've come close to perfection with one or two "more tense" scenes like the video footage scenes.  a great movie with fantastic dialogue and characters.  8.75/10

Alice in Wonderland (2010)

got my hands on the blu ray for this one!    the visuals were really pleasing and Burton seemed to capture the characters and settings of the original and from the book, but any sense of wonder or authentic immersion was somehow lost for nearly the entire movie.  there just seemed to be so much missing from this that deserved to be there as far as a spirit goes.  6.5/10

Last House on the Left (1972)

nothing remotely creepy or horrific about this "horror" movie, just a lot of wasted man hours and probably little wasted money on this "movie."  zero significance with anything that happens in this pile-o-shite. 2/10

Kick-Ass (2010) - simply hilarious. The crudeness of this movie had me constantly surprised and indeed had some unexpected moments, although the film itself was very predictable. 7.5/10. Great entertainment.

Man on Fire (2004 or so)

Denzel is incredibly good in this movie, but it does just kind of drag on for awhile. Think I've seen it three times now; there's just small, believable touches to his performance that elevate it higher than most. The movie gets a 7/10.

The Machinist (2007 or so)

Good idea, but I almost feel like it would've been better as a short film. Really went on and on for no reason. 5/10.

Free Willy-

still a very solid family movie.    lol @ Michael Ironside AND Michael Madsen!!!

Dirty Harry-

far better than i thought it would be.  a solid movie that felt a little like Silence of the Lambs and Se7en in some ways.  8/10

Anatomy of a Murder-

PERFECT!  PERFECT!  PERFECT!  10/10!  ONE OF MY 10 FAVORITES OF ALL TIME!!!

Bolt-

not bad, solid action, and a few chuckles throughout (mostly by the hamster in the bubble)  6.5/10

The China Syndrome-

decent, very much of an X-Files feel, lame ending, but a fairly tense movie  6.75/10

For A Few Dollars More-

far greater than the 1st, nearly as good as the 3rd, great spaghetti western!  the score was mind-blowing!  8/10

Axel, might have to take you up on your offer of potentially getting The Skin Game up on the net somewhere so I can complete Hitch's filmography!

In other news, recently saw

The Royal Tenenbaums - my first Wes Anderson movie! It was kinda good; a bit quirky and a different style of comedy than the norm. I'll probably have to check out some of his other films.

Top Gun - lol not sure why it took me 23 years to see this movie, but it was pretty much everything I expected! I feel like I knew a lot of the story already, but I always imagined you-know-who would go down in combat instead of some weird freak accident. This movie kinda reminded me of An Officer and a Gentleman.

Thanks Ax! And with that, Hitchcock's complete filmography has been watched! For some reason the upload you made was missing the last 5 minutes of the movie! Luckily someone had actually uploaded this movie to YouTube only 3 days ago (lol what are the chances?) and I was able to catch the ending there.

I try to keep a general ranking of them all in some random Excel file. Some of these ratings are subject to change, and its definitely hard to assign a number to an emotional connection to a movie, but I attempted to do so nonetheless.

Jungle Book

good movie, really good music.  better than Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty, imo  7.25/10

Rudy

VERY GOOD MOVIE!  great performance from Astin and a little surprise with Vince Vaughn!  8.5/10

Anchorman

lulz.  not super funny, but some very quotable lines... "i love lamp"    5.5/10

Robots

slightly above the middle of the road as far as animation goes.  6.5/10

Kick-Ass

what did my eyes just see?!

positive:  cool action scenes/effects, cool music (mixed with the action scenes), fresh actors/characters (when the weren't reading directly from a Tarantino script), outrageously funny!

negative:  mainly with Hit-Girl being 12 YEARS OLD FFS!!!  most of her screen time just felt wrong to watch in so many ways... (though her action scenes were easily the best!)

too hard to rate... but may never forget this movie...

Fantastic. I wonder what the hell happened to Disney when i see this. Probably my favorite short cartoon ever. Haven't watched this since i was like 6 or 7, but i remembered every single piece of the music, so it was pretty nostalgic for me heh. The music score is always awesome in the old cartoons.

The 400 Blows

i'm not sure what the title means, but anyways... well made, kinda sad movie.  much if the story hit pretty close to home so it was pretty easy to empathize with and understand the main kid in the movie... seemed like the build up to the final scene (which i think was SUPPOSED to be triumphant [think of the end of Shawshank]) was dramatically UNDERPLAYED-should have been a better build up, imo.  good acting, and for being in French, this story was pretty easy to follow and pulled my emotions out very well...  7/10

Prince of Persia

this was actually better than i was expecting!  a very solid perfect popcorn movie, belongs right next to the first Mummy (with Brenden Fraser).  Jake Gylllenenanannnanaael was actually good as an action/adventure hero and the main woman in this movie was as beautiful a person that i have seen AND she could act a little!  the only thing that was kinda meh was the acting job of Ben Kingsley A FORMER OSCAR WINNER!!  he looked bored and like he was just there to collect his paycheck... other than that, this was fun.  7/10

The Apartment

pretty dirty subject matter when you strip the "light-hearted" acting away.  hmm... i was very pleased with the ending so the whole trip up to it was tolerable.  good subtle comedy/drama mix.  this movie could be pretty serious/somewhat sad and then be a good comedy both at the same time... kudos to that.  good movie.  7.25/10

What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?

Bette Davis is officially the scariest actress of all-time-SERIOUSLY!  to act on this level, she HAD to have tapped in to something very, VERY dark... she could scare the crap out of Buffalo Bill, Norman Bates and John Doe...  one of the most memorable performances that i can ever recall.  also a pretty good, creepy movie.  7.5/10

Born on the Fourth of July

Hm, definitely one of the best movies I have ever seen. Very emotional with an epic performance by Cruise. Probably one of the most sad movies i've seen in my life.

Nice list of Hitchcock movies, Cyber! The only thing that really surprises me is the way you seem to dislike "Topaz".

Bud Abbott Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948) - hilarious and very funny. 7.5/10

Cologne - http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xejnu2_cologne-from-the-diary-of-ray-and-e_shortfilms  checkable on iCM (only 14 minutes long)

also WTF is going on lately!?!? At least 3 people movie-related people has died in like 3 days: Gloria Stuart (old Rose in Titanic), Sally Menke (editor of all Tarantino films) and now Arthur Penn (director of "Bonnie and Clyde" and "Little Big Man"). 2 weeks ago notable french director Claude Chabrol passed away too. Wonders who's next

Ink
4th time i've seen it.  this movie has etched it's way into my top 10 favorites of all time.  the resonance it leaves in my heart after i watch it is just too powerful and i can't wait for jamin winans to be recognized for how truly talented he is.  10/10

Spirited Away
never before have i not understood why a movie is so beloved!  i don't think there was any time while watching this movie that i liked it.  this one just wasn't my bag o chips.   i was really looking forward to it too...

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

this movie was really good!  i think this was the oldest movie that i have seen (1920) and right away the tone really set the feel for the entire 70 minutes.  if today's horror movies could remember that the feel of a movie goes a long way for making the viewer feel creeped out, then they would be much better.  thus far, this was the best silent movie that i have seen.  8.25/10

Your taste seems very unpredictable! How could you enjoy a snoozefest like Caligari but not be completely immersed in Spirited Away? Anyway...

Ax, you spoke too soon

RIP Tony Curtis. I'm glad I got to see him in person last year.

yeah, i was fully expecting to enjoy Spirited Away.  i thought the same thing about my tastes... to quote the Great Jack Burton:

"you never can tell"

The Cove
very well made documentary.  obviously one sided, but these usually are and that is ok.  this one seemed a bit better than most that i have seen.  definitely has a hippie factor of about 7/10.  i am by no means a hippie, tree hugging person, but i am also not someone who glory's in killing defenseless animals for no reason.  a very entertaining watch, good documentary.  7.5/10

Polar Express
this movie would've been wonderful if it hadn't been for the crappy cgi facial expressions!  not once throughout the entire movie did any of the kids even smile!!!  this should've been the most captivating experience of their lives and they NEVER EVEN SMILED!!!  made me so mad at Bob Zemekis's crap animation!  aside from THAT, this movie was a delight!  mixed feelings give it a 6.75/10

Yeah; although he wasn't even close being one of my favorite actors, it is still sad

Sin City
meh.  awesome stylization, but i found absolutely nobody (maybe Willis's character) to cheer for or care about.  i suppose there was a point; save the girl-in exchange, errrrrrbody dies.  10 for style, but overall, maybe a 5/10

Killer Klowns From Outer Space
BEST MOVIE EVER!  LOL!  3/10

Paper Moon

this movie was very fun to watch.  it was just cute and playful on many levels, but still had a serious emotional heft to it.  great fun.  8/10

Beauty And The Beast (1946)

absolutely loved this movie!  i have never read any of the literature or seen any version of this movie, so i really didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised!  this was a gorgeous film and fantastic love story.  highly recommend this one.  8.25/10

Horton Hears A Who!
very nice animated movie.  story that didn't try to do too much but was spot on with it's execution.  cute characters and a great animation!
8/10

Kill Bill, Vol. 2
i am not a real Tarentino fan, and there were a few things that i didn't like about this movie, but this was slick as a mofo!  perfect use of Morricone-esque music!  perfectly executed dialogue!  Carradine was so epic in his line delivery!  great action!  just a very, very slick movie.  my gripe (as with most of QT's movies) is that there are no characters to root for.  not even the "good" ones.  they are so over-the-top sleazy and trash (by design, i'm certain) that it is hard to get fully immersed in his stories... especially one of revenge.  that is just personal, and i know it is his style so take it for what it's worth...
8/10

Dracula (1931)
gotta love the good ol' classics...  on par with Frankenstein
7.75/10

Creepshow (1982)
lol
some decent ideas, but ended up pretty lolz.
4/10

The House of the Devil

this is what horror should be all about!  it strips away all the gimmicks and garbage and hits you right in the gut with a creep-fest thriller tour-de-force!  the last 20 minutes SHOULD have you creeped out of your mind!!!
8.5/10
