Chronicles of Narnia:  Voyage of the Dawn Treader
ugh, such a sad movie... i feel so sorry for fans of the book who were really hoping that this would be good.  the series has really lost it's magic and i don't see it recovering.  the "kid fantasty" movie just isn't that cool right now.  this movie felt rushed and really moved too fast and had very little exposition... :(
5/10

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
lolwtf?!?!!  hard to rate, categorize or even describe!  kudos for originality, lol'd quite a bit, some awkward moments  :P

The Fighter
decent movie (not great like many claim)  CHRISTIAN BALE SHOULD HANDS DOWN WIN BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR FOR HIS ROLE IN THIS MOVIE!!!  ZOMG!!  one of those rare moments in cinematic history where an acting job is flooringly (lol) stunning!!!
Christian Bale 10/10
movie 7.5/10

I've recently watched In Bruges and Tangled.  I liked Tangled better.

Pah. I better see Tangled because this seems ridiculous. In Bruges is by far Colin Farrell's best (isn't saying much but still).

The Elephant Man (1980)

I downloaded this months ago and just got around to watching it. It feels like it was made much earlier than 1980, and that's not simply due to the black and white. It was moving in a very strange way.

The Da Vinci Code (2006) - 5/10

Angels & Demons (2009) - 5.5/10

The Nutty Professor (1963) - bit fun at parts, but not really my kind of humor. 4.5/10

Charlie's Angels (2000) - good god. 3/10

Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle -  2.5/10

^^ Yeah, I only watched those movies to get near you on the All-Time Worldwide Box Office list. We're even at this very moment, both having seen 308/417  ;D Seriously though, it's just a series of coincidences me having seen the lame movies above after eachother.

Have you missed the latest blog posts? You can now add every movie by importing it. Around 110000 movies/TV-series have already been added to the site. And I've checked like 1000 movies the past few weeks (including all James Bond, Mr. Bean TV-series, all remaining Hitchcock, many Swedish movies etc etc) and I'm far from done yet. I'll go through all my checked feature films sometime soon as well as all cartoon shorts (Donald Duck etc). Probably will come up to 4000+ checks in total after it's done since I have like 800 films still left to check.

Yeah, it was a nice addition I suppose, but there's no way I can be bothered to go back and figure out every movie I'm missing. Since I don't use IMDB and just do it by hand, it would basically require a whole day to do. No thanks!

I dont know why but I ended up checking off every movie I think I'm missing on icheck. Took a few hours, but I was able to watch TV and stuff at the same time. I was worried before that I'd have to link every IMDB link to the site, but it looks like hundreds of people have already done the work for just about every movie! Went from 645 checks to about 880.

Life of Brian - pretty terrible; god I hate monty python. done trying to watch these movies. the comedy is just not for me.

Rio Bravo - very good, probably my new favorite John Wayne movie!

To Sir, with Love - decent, I'm definitely a fan of Poitier.

Monty Python are hilarious imo  ;D although their movies are extremely uneven. I prefer Holy Grail.

Glad you liked "Rio Bravo" though, one of the top 5 Wayne movies.

The School of Rock (2003) - 6/10

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) - saw the original for like 7 years ago or so; this was slightly worse, but still quite good. 6/10.

That Obscure Object of Desire (1977) - Buñuel's last film; hilarious but not his best. Carole Bouquet (the Bond girl in For Your Eyes Only) was in this one. 7/10

The Spirit of the Beehive (1973) - One of the most haunting films about children ever. Unforgettable. Some might find this movie slow, I got stuck with it right away. Beautiful cinematography. 8/10

Off to a pretty good start this year, have already caught up on a few movies (and it's crazy that I hadn't seen some before). I'm awful at rating things, so I'll comment my reaction.

Burn After Reading - quite good, especially towards the end
TRON - okish, didn't do much for me
Saving Private Ryan - ok, don't see the big deal
Run Fatboy Run - okish, but probably the worst Simon Pegg thing I've seen
Requiem for a Dream - good, crazy shit though
Sweeney Todd - Meh
The Transporter - I don't hate Jason Statham as much as I thought I did, but eh
District 9 - ok, but again don't really see the big deal
Alien - pretty good
Aliens - quite enjoyed it, moreso than 1

Watched a few more the last few weeks.

Alien 3 - okish
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 - disliked
Despicable me - ok... expected more given how great the casting was though
The Sixth Sense - decent, but obviously I was spoiled years and years ago which didn't help
Slumdog Millionaire - first half was good, seemed to really trail off though
Dawn of the Dead (2004) - ok, had seen most of it already
Inglorious Basterds - really liked it, which shocks me 'cause I don't really like QT
There Will Be Blood - Acting was amazing by all, but otherwise it did nothing for me
Léon - awesome
Black Swan - awesome, I knew what kind of movie it was and what to expect but was still pleasently surprised

Pretty solid stuff from Neo. SPR is pretty over-the-top in a few ways. I thought Burn After Reading was okay and loved District 9, but I agree 100% about Slumdog and Basterds. Still need to see Black Swan.

Something's Gotta Give (2003) - very enjoyable to sit through. 6.5/10. Nicholson is great as always and all the cast is solid.

The Hospital (1971) - similar to "Network"; this satire-like black comedy was more interesting than good. Pretty unusual and daring for its time. 6/10

Capturing the Friedmans (2003) - saw this at university. This documentary moved me as few have ever done. Its content is of course very sad and upsetting but you're still sympathizing with the major "cast" afterwards. You're never fully aware of what is 100% the truth and what isn't; Ii is up for the viewer to decide. Also, very well-written and done. 8/10. Ennio Morricone's son is credited as composer (=WTF?)

The Shining - 8/10.  Just saw this after reading the book.  It's cool as a standalone movie, but having read the book makes the movie so much worse.  I don't want to sound like one of those "OMG THE BOOK IS BETTER THAN THE MOVIE" idiots, because I actually usually don't agree with that, but in this case the movie changes and cuts just about everything.  They're practically two different stories.  Well done movie, though, very creepy.

Agreed, Octo. Awesome movie, but different than the book in many ways. You should also check out The Shining "mini-series"; it's much more "true" to the book. You might not love it but it's worth a watch, IMO.

Heartbreak Ridge-

I like watching movies about the Navy and Marines a little bit more so I found this little movie.  Wasn't very good, but had some interesting stuff about military and it was filmed mostly where I have been training for the last eight weeks.  5.5/10

Touch of Evil-

Sorry Acke, but I am really not a fan of Noir movies.  I havn't really seen more than one or two that i liked and this was boring as heck-fire!  Not much else to say, the genre itself is humbug.  LOL fattest Orson Whales of all time!

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly-

Somewhat interesting movie about a guy that suffers a stroke and the movie is from the perspective of his mind.  Fairly boring, but there were elements of an interesting movie.  This seemed to be based on a true story, but I didn't care enough to check.  6/10

High Noon-

A fine Western, but I couldn't see why it was so great.  LOL @ old man McDoughall-Fish marrying some philly about 60 years younger than himself!  Good watch!  7.5/10

Buried-

Neat!  Would suck to be THAT guy!  7.75/10

Shame about "Touch of Evil", afan.

Hadaka no shima (The Naked Island) (1960) - 9/10. Extremely neglected minimalistic masterpiece.

Orphée (1950) - fascinating but rather dull at places. Still quite good. 7/10.

The Ghost Writer (2010) - decent. Unfortunately quite predictable. 6/10.

Cleopatra (1963) - saw this because of the death of 'Liz Taylor. Keeps going for an eternity; never ends. Some spectacular scenes but you've seen better epic movies from the same era. And the directing is just lol, especially when coming from a director like Mankiewicz (All About Eve, Sleuth) although the Fox producer pretty much ruined the movie when releasing it into just one film. Considering this was the most expensive film ever as of 1963, it's a major misfire. 3.5/10.

Alice in Wonderland (1951)

got to watch this on blu ray, which was very vivid and pleasing, however this movie is an epic WTF movie-ESPECIALLY FOR A "CHILDREN'S" DISNEY MOVIE!  probably the most insane animated movie with the most random scenes that really don't add anything to the point of the story.  actually i am not really sure WHAT the point was.  lol, she wakes up and was dreaming... FANTASTIC (gay)  interesting watch, but not sure i followed much of anything.

Strangers on a Train-

decent movie, especially since i havn't really liked the "noir" genre yet.  Robert Walker's character, Bruno, really reminded me of Robert Mitchum's Harry in The Night of the Hunter.  a unique, creepy, nut-job villain that is a little different than typical hollywood baddies.  neat ending, decent movie.  not Hitch's best imo, but a good movie.  7/10

absolutely sick movie.  10/10.  It's getting overwhelmingly negative reviews because people don't understand it.  A true piece of art.

127 Hours (2010)

Solid film, Franco's great, Boyle's amazing. 8/10

Unstoppable (2010)

Real, real boring. Nothing remotely exceptional here. 5/10

Malcolm X (1992)

A tremendous, tedious look at the journey one man took through two very different lifestyles. Spike Lee does an excellent job of fully conveying different parts of X's life, but it just wears on you, and there are very few interesting characters. 7/10

Hotaru no haka (Grave of the Fireflies)
probably can't say anything that hasn't been said before about this movie.  there were some very nice moments and scenes that, when combined and viewed with the beautiful score put a smile on my face in the way sitting outside on a warm spring afternoon would.  then of course there is the overall story and feel of the movie, which is extreme, even gut-wrenching sorrow.  this movie is definitely not for children and perhaps best not to be viewed by flaky, emotional adults.  it might break them, this movie was extremely sad.  overall hard to rate and i probably would never watch again... 8/10

The Grapes of Wrath (1940)
WHEW!!!  another fantastic EPIC classic that was such a pleasure to watch!  if you haven't seen this wonderful movie, i HIGHLY suggest that you do!  all of the actors were fantastic, the story was gripping and, like all great movies, was very easy to relate to on the deepest level of humanity.  nearly stood and clapped when i finished watching... at my house.  :p  :D  10/10

A Place in the Sun (1951)

Very good movie with Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift. A slight hint of Double Indemnity embedded somewhere in this film. Guy starts dating girl 1 but starts to fall in love with the exquisitely lovely girl 2 and gets into a bind and contemplates killing girl 1. A movie about morality and guilt, love and hatred, it's really pretty exciting. I recommend it.

Breaker Morant-
Not bad, a little boring at times, but there was still a solid movie to be seen.  I would probably place this in the top 10 or so "court room" dramas, but Breaker is also a decent historical story.  All-in-all, not bad 7.5/10

Lord of the flies

lol. Didn't see this movie since 9 years ago, but it was a lot more boring than i remembered, but i generally just think the movie shows that children can be just as ruthless and evil as grown ups. Especially in a situation like that when you're stranded on a island.

Srpski film (A Serbian Film) (2010) - wtf

Körkarlen (The Phantom Carriage) (1958) - horrible remake. 3.5/10.

Silver Lode (1954) - very entertaining and an unusually good anti-communist film. Very similar to "High Noon" plot-wise. One shootout scene is particularly good. 6.5/10.

Ride Lonesome (1959) - this was disappointing; still solid but there are so many better westerns from the same era. James Coburn's film debut. 6/10.

Le notti di Cabiria (1957)
eh, i really don't enjoy Fellinni's movies at all, but this one was at least somewhat understandable.  definitely not his hardest to watch.  actually not bad really at all.  lol, i know a few ladies that are just like Giulietta Masina's title character-man, they need some help... :p

Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (1988)
this movie is probably epic and beautiful, but i would'nt know because netflix sent me the stupid short 2 hour version!  >:  i really wished that i would've seen the full 3 hour version as i could easily tell that there was so much story missing.  this version really vexed me, but i plan to re-visit the full version in the future and can only grade this an 8/10.  i am fairly certain that the full version is going to be a near 10/10 for me.  this was like watching a happy version of The Godfather and not feeling crappy about it either.  :)

Brothers (2009)
not a bad flick about PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder).  lol, Roeper calling one of the best films of 2009!  not sure about that, but it was very watchable.  seemed like this one should've been about another 20-30 minutes long to explain more of the psychological issues that Toby McGuire's character went through.  solid acting all around (Portman, Gylanhall, etc) and not a bad way to spend a couple hours.  a low 7/10 (6.8675 perhaps)

Shawn, I've seen both the longer and the shorter, AA winner cut of "Cinema Paradiso" and trust me, the shorter version is much much better. If nothing, it's the director's cut that is terribly uneven and filled with superfluous material imo

Acke did you see that "Ink" is now in a cool list?  I am so happy that it is starting to gain its proper attention!  I forgot whether or not you have seen it, but it remains my second favorite film of all time (after the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which will always be one single movie to me). :) Long live Ink!!!

Ikiru (1952)
pretty slow, but somewhat gratifying to sit through.  a decent story, a solid made movie, but didn't feel that it was super-great.  7.25/10

TRON (1982)
this movie was way better than i expected!  the graphics are extremely dated, but i can't recall anything like that being done in any movie that old!  way fun!  Jeff Bridges seemed to be having a ball in his role of Flynn!  i will revisit this is the future as a guilty pleasure.   watched this so that i could watch the sequel.  so glad i did.  :)

8/10
