Which movie ending was most surprising?
« on: May 04, 2009, 01:05:00 am »
Movies are full of great plot twists and unexpected endings, achieved through several cinematographic and literary devices.  Which of these endings was most shocking to you?

for sure, Ryan... you REALLY need to delete this or edit it so that you're not ruining these movies for those who havn't seen them!

If you clicked on a poll called "What movie ending is the most surprising?" not expecting spoilers, then I don't know what to say about your deductive reasoning skills.

It's in FFA, I can't edit or delete it. Better just close your eyes.

IMO, definitely should have put in a warning in there and also Primal Fear's ending should be in there too, it was wicked. Oh and for me I reckon maybe Fight Club, The Others and Sixth Sense were good also.

Yeah can't edit, so I can't edit my erroneous name messup in the OP either

But yeah, that scene where they go into his cell and he's not there, and then the Warden throws a stone at the poster is just insanity. Then it goes on to recap the last 19 years. Sooooooo epic.

That's a horrible reason to stop reading Alex, there's lots more in book 6 and you still haven't found out whyhow Snape killed Dumbledore. Also, you only find out why Snape really kills Dumbledore in book 7 so keep reading!

Dude, SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE has been shouted and posted, literally billions of times in the past 4 years since the book came out... anyone who didn't know that Snape kills Dumbledore has to be living under a rock. It's at about the same level of common knowledge as knowing that Mars is the 4th planet from the Sun, or knowing that Argentina is a country in Europe.

But hey, you're a metal-head American, I guess you're not supposed to have much knowledge.

Why would you click on a topic like this if you don't want a movie "spoiled"? Seriously, use common sense.

By the way, in Fight Club, the main character's name was not Jack. He was just referred to as The narrator. His real name was not given.

Also, Snape killed Dumbledore because he asked him too. You later find this out. It really isn't that surprising.
Embrace the grind.

Yeah but it's an incredible story twist Lark. And Goose yes I was expecting spoilers...I was NOT expecting you to reveal the ending of a movie that isn't coming out for two and a half months. I didn't know what happened until I read the book (i.e. I didn't hear it shouted out four billion times).

Voted for Usual Suspects, because this movie sort of builds onto this twist, and the movie would suck without it.

Interesting topic, Goose

I would like to add "Se7en" and if I remember correctly I was very surprised by the ending in "The Game". I haven't watched "Fight Club" for a very long time but I do remember I thought that film was utterly boring and extremely pretentious by the time I watched it. (I think I have to re-watch it again, maybe I'll like it more but I doubt that cause I hate Brad Pitt )

Other less-known films such as "Rebecca" and "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance", "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?", "Jean de Florette part 2" etc etc had some very clever and unpredictable endings just to mention a few. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, "Les Diaboliques" (a french film currently #146 at the imdb top 250) has one of the best twists ever in the history of cinema. And the ending of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" is just epic.

It's impossible to say what ending that surprised me the most. The ones Goose mentioned I think I have to go with either "Saw" or "The Usual Suspects".

Time was untied when set.

I've only seen three of the movies on my list... Shawshank, Saw and Sixth Sense. The rest I just know of... because. I think I'm going to have to check out Les Diaboliques if it really is that good, and I guess I should watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail as that's just a film "everyone" needs to see.
