And now to answer the question everyone is wondering.
What can I do to help out this Summer?#1. Find a recent picture of yourself that you like, and post a link to it here or IM it to wiff. (Remember that if you don't, wiff reserves the right to use whatever weird picture he wants for you- you might not like it, but no complaints allowed!).
#2. Update your bio out on the SRW to bring it up to date for this year:
http://speedrunwiki.com/Main_PageIf you don't have a page out there yet, talk to Shep on AIM- he's an incredibly involved and helpful person who is sure to take time out of his day to set you on the right path.
#3. Participate! Send in a prediction bracket, post your thoughts on some matchups, discuss the bracket in Chat- get into the spirit of this wacky little summer competition of ours and I think you'll find you rather enjoy it after a while.
#4. Sign up for one of the following important Contest positions that we're looking to fill (these will be updated with names once people sign up for the spots)
* Vote Collector: ???- DK did this for us last year and did a very nice job, so if he wants this position back he's got it. HOWEVER this is going to be a much different position than in years past- we're taking the focus away from AIM and putting it more on thengamer this year (more details on this later) and so there will be very little "collecting" of votes needed- the main thing for this position is to be around at midnight EST each night so you can take predictions, announce results, and run FVs in Chat. This person also gets access to special pages on the site that only he or I would ever manage. Also, we're going to once again attempt to get the vote collector access to update the top of the boards so that Come and I won't always have to change that.
* Contest Reporter: Comet- octo did this last year, but I think he said he'll be unable to continue his duties in '09. As reporter you're the only person allowed to post in the matchups and results topic every day- we're looking for someone who will be around almost every night around FV time so that they'll be able to see the result in Chat, then come into the topic and post a short writeup for all to see. Stuff like who got off to a big lead in the match, when did the comeback start, who did Europe side with, what does this result mean for next round, etc. And then a brief preview of the upcoming match.
* Spread Bet Superhero: ???- QB and Shep have done this in the past, but don't know if they want to for this season. I'm going to update this system so that all spread bets get tracked automatically this Summer, so this shouldn't be a hard job at all- we just need someone experienced who will be able to set a line for the upcoming match that they think will be equal action on both sides. Once the new match starts they can go into the secret page (once again, only this updater and I will have access) and set that line within the system. It would also be nice if this person would post overall spread results in the Results topic every once in a while to keep people updated.
* Match Pic Dude: wiff- This job is taken.

http://s75.photobucket.com/albums/i308/wiwf/Summer%20Contest%202009/* First Vote Updater: ???- Basically you just have to be around at midnight most nights. You would keep track of who took 1st 2nd 3rd in FV and then update the table out on the wiki to include the latest result. Easy stuff, but very helpful- it becomes a pain if we fall too many days behind on updating this. Oh also you would post FV results updates everyone once in a while in the Results topic.
* Bracket Preds Updater: Third- With my new system in place basically all your work is done for you... all that's left is posting results in the topic every couple weeks or something. You could come in more often to say things like "if SA wins the match tonight there will be no perfect brackets left!", little updates like that are cool.
* Euro FV Organizer: Fal (and SZ?)- SZ has always done this in the past, don't know if he plans to again? Basically it's the same as normal FV, except held during the afternoon in America so that Europeans are able to attend without staying up until the middle of the night. Generally this is one of the more fun and silly side contests of the season, hopefully someone picks it back up!
* Contest Bio Updater: Jimbo, with help from Shep- Shep has done this in the past, but,
yikes. The job here is to make sure everyone has a short bio (and hopefully a picture, maybe a couple external links) up on the wiki by the time their match comes up. This shouldn't be nearly as hard as in past years since I think only 6-7 people don't have anything on the SRW, but it would be nice if even those who do have bios of some sort could get help with bringing their info up to date.
Hmm, might be forgetting something. I'll make an edit to this post if so; watch this spot.
In any case, yes, this will be way more fun for you (and everyone else) if you get involved, so sign up for a position! Go go go!
