I doubt anyone reads anything on my Facebook in terms of updates, but I'm inching closer to doing 100 straight. Today I did 100 in 90 seconds, getting to 68 before just falling. Then I pushed myself hardcore the rest of the way with very minimal breaks.

Do they even count going that fast? Lol. I do mine really slowly, a few seconds each! Could probably do way more if I busted really fast

Holy crap, week 3 just got a LOT harder, I barely got the required on maxing out the last set, looks like I'll probably need to do this week twice.

Good news is, I'm not feeling it in my abs/lower back anymore so those have strengthened nicely.

Week One
Day 1 (6/8 ): 10-12-7-7-17
Day 2 (6/10): 10-12-8-8-18
Day 3 (6/15): 11-15-9-9-24

Week Two
Day 1 (6/17): 14-14-10-10-19
Day 2 (6/21): 14-16-12-12-23
Day 3 (6/24): 16-17-14-14-22

Exhaustion Test (6/26): 32

Week Three
Day 1 (6/30): 14-18-14-14-29
Day 2 (7/2): 20-25-15-15-25

One thing's for sure: push-ups (if performed correctly) do strengthen your body in so many ways. Lower back and front abs, chest, biceps, triceps etc. Looks I'll be joining you Octo. I got to 35 good push-ups without any bouncing in my first exhaustion test, meaning I'll use the 3-day table for week 3. I am also working out 3 days a week, so it's probably going to be a tough run. I'll be posting my findings here now and then. The schedule for week 6 really looks far away though.

I repeated week 3 AGAIN!

Not saying that it's that hard. It's just me.... I been trying them after work, and not much food or rest in between the days, so I admit I'm struggling like a mofo. But yeah, I have repeated week 3 for the THIRD time.

It's my fault, I havnt been giving it all my best. I will now try my best to keep up with octo seeing as now we are currently tied within the days of it all.

Mattijsdaduchman - Don't think it will be an easy ride just because you can do 35 consecetives.... week 3 is a BITCH, I personally start back on week 2 perhaps? Try week 3 by all means, but It's tough.

I'm flying through week 3 now so far, just breezed day 1 and 2. only one more day to go then onto week 4.... looks tough.

Day3 week 3 goes =
22
30
20
20
28 (at least)

well did the first set. 22 no problem, then i went to do set 2, the 30 pushups and I could only manage 10................
I should rightly be able to do this by now, but yesterday at work I was laying concrete blocks all day and woke up this morning acheing ALL over, so I really can't do this last day of week3, if I have to repeat week 3 for the 4th time, that is shamefull. It's actually pretty fucking pathetic.

edit, started coming down with some sort of flu7 last night also..... better not be swine flu, cuz it's in my town now, which is a 5minute walk away.

Holy crap, just finished my very first day of week 3 and my chest is literally exploding:

          Day 1
rest 60 seconds between each SET (longer if required)
16 -20 push ups21 - 25 push ups> 25 push ups
set 1101214
set 2121718
set 371314
set 471314
set 5max (at least 9)max (at least 17)max (at least 20)

I barely managed to do 14-18-14-14-20 with a collapse on the very last set while going for 21. The 60 seconds pause between the sets really is short though. To be continued...

Gosh Marc, that's sad lol

I just did 100 at one time.  I dont know if my form was 100% legit, but it was really fucking exhausting. I took a very small break at 75 for like 10 seconds to catch my breath , then finished it off.

You know.. Bruce lee was freakish thin too in his later days and he could do push ups in eternity. Less weight just means less weight to carry. But yeah i see what you mean.. THIN, NO MUSCLES = NO PUSH UPS. I'm going to try for 20. Shouldn't be too hard..

I can do about 60 without stopping (maybe 75 once I lose some weight ) proper form is that you start with arms straight and go down until you almost touch the ground with your nose or chest (my nose is usually just 1-2cm from ground, like 90 degree angle on arms) I've seen some vids of pretty pathetic attempts sometimes with guys barely going down at all with their arms

If I really went for it I think I could do 100 in a couple months, if I put in the proper exercise, I've been more interested in trying with weights lately, max benching, I've managed 85kg so far, so I've lifted my body weight. (85kg =187lbs according to search on Google) I know we have some strong guys here on the-elite so I can't imagine me being anywhere close to the-elite record yet hehe.

I never really cared much about benching since imo it works out pretty much useless muscles overall, but I think my max is like 220, though another thing I dont like about it is the fact that if you drop the weights somehow, you're pretty much fucked.

Heh, I bench 270 lbs at the gym 3 sets of 8 (although that last set I struggle with mightily, I've done it twice though). Usually I drop off from 270 to 220 for the 3rd set so I don't kill myself, and still feel the muscular failure. As for a "max", I've never attempted because I'm afraid it will be a lot lower than I want it to be

Edit: I'd say my bench is pretty good for a 200 lb buy, my weakest exercise are my triceps because my elbows suck and it's hard to put so much tension on a spot like that.

@ keep your pants on  I'm sure i have 20 in a couple of days. I did 5 today and kinda gave up, then took myself together and did 10 lol. Will do 15 tomorow. 30 is going to take a little time though, but i think i'm gonna stick at it and also do some sit ups and "back ups" or whatever they're called in english. It's been like 2 years since i've done a single push up or eating healthy for one day, so i better get started before my body is shrinking  My gaming concentration would def also improve. Exercise is no prob too as i play soccer with the locals like 2-4 hours a day when it's spring/summer season.

I'm fucked in a squat or dead lift competition (because I never do them), but in a bench I'll be up there with the best of them! (non-ultra-bodybuilders I mean).

Illu, I have no real "reason" to be strong outside of wanting to be physically attractive (even though I have a girlfriend, I still like wow-ing girls), I like satisfying my own ego that I'm not an ultra fatass or rail-thin screwball, and that I actually AM very healthy. Muscle incinerates calories, so by weightlifting and doing a ton of cardio, I have a license to eat whatever the hell I want to when I want to pretty much haha. I also lift weights to stay competitive at my job, seeing as we've been on a skeleton crew for 1.5 years and sales have been picking up increasingly in the last 6 months; always have to make sure I'm in tip top shape!

Sure, people do trim their balls, cardio and lift weights, to get better "psychically attractive" and not just to gain strength. You feel better about yourself, relaxed, get better self-confidence and stay in shape. Ego boosting on the other hand then you guys are totally out of line.

When you're self-confident, you know you're doing the right thing without violating the well-being of the people around you. When you're driven by your ego, you disregard everyone else.

Also doing only push ups and benching would make your body look totally weird with the biggest boobs ever and no legs what so ever. Doing squats is one of the most basic exercises one can do and one very effective.

And about the ego boosting, yea I dunno it depends, we might have different ideas about that, I'm pretty sure most people know how to behave and not push their way to success by putting other people down. I kinda don't take it that seriously if someone says that they're driven by the ego since it may not be as much of a bad thing as it's thought of generally, it's basically self love and I think it is important to love yourself too.

Man, I completed all of the "weeks" of the 100 pushups program recently (in the third column), but I still can't do 100 pushups in a row.  I mean I can, but usually a 20 second break is involved around the 70ish range.  I am going to invent new weeks that basically just build off the structure of week 6, only more difficult.  After a few more weeks maybe I'll be able to nail the hundred, no stopping!

20 push ups This was fucking insane for me. I wouldn't could do a single more push up. My chest was all the way down on all of them and it took me like 5 seconds to get up from the 20th.

Btw, Jimbo, when you say you have licence to eat whatever you want, do you still get your proteins? I would just find it wierd how you would develop muscles if you didn't feed them with proteins.

Yep I buy the giant protein jugs at Wal Mart and have one every day, 2 on days that I lift weights.

As for ego boosting, I agree with Patrik and take the side that he explained in his post. When I'm at my gym, there are plenty of guys there who are ridiculously built and I use them as my motivation to get better. The gym has some of the nicest guys in the world I'd say, and I'm humbled when I hang out with these guys; however when at work there are plenty of cocky young customers who struggle to pick up any old sofa and I just laugh to myself. When I see myself in the mirror with a big upper body and a flat stomach, it's always a sigh of relief knowing what body I had for the first VA meet!

I did this program, but it took way longer than 6 weeks (nearly 12), and at the end (final 20 or so) I was always cheating. So I guess I didn't really do it. I'm sticking to the weight room from now on.

OK, so here's my problem with this 6 week format. I did the initial test and was able to do 10 good-form pushups. I weigh right around 300 pounds so I was curious as to how much body weight I was actually lifting in a pushup. So I decided to test it using my bathroom digital scale. I calibrated my scale to 0, got into pushup form and placed my hands on the scale. It read 208 pounds. This seems about right as I can typically bench press 225 in the gym about 6 or 7 times depending on the day.

Now here is where the problem comes in. Take for example the NFL combine. Upper-tier players can usually put up over 30 reps in a 225 bench press while elite players can do over 40 reps. If you are 300 pounds, like myself, this program seems to indicate that in a mere 6 weeks you will be able to do 100 205 pound bench-press-esque lifts (granted there is a lot more going on in a bench press with the stabilizer muscles and all) in a row - which in my estimation is roughly the equivalent of doing 60-70 actual bench press lifts. If this is the case why isn't every NFL combine trainer in the world employing this program for their athletes (who pay these guys a lot of money to maximize their ability in all of the combine events).

I think I'll just stick to doing my bench press sets at the gym. At least there I can get in some incline and decline sets as well.

25 push ups. Suprised my arms wasn't sore at all the next day. When i'm doing 25 at once my arms are pretty much broken the rest of the day so i think something like 10 x 5 push ups would be better.

im redoing this. I am going to try it different though. I think i'll do better this time because i've quit smoking 4+ months ago, and quit drinking last week, hopefully I can continue as I am. I will try to do some pushups everyday instead of Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays. so the schedule would be starting on week one...

Monday as usual. then I will repeat mondays exercises on tuesday
Then Wednesdays as usual then repeat wednesdays for thursday.
Then finally Fridays then have 2 days of rest. I dont know if I'm going to damage muscles doing it like that, maybe someone here could stop me before I try this? if it's a bad idea, or maybe it will be more beneficial?

It's a bad idea because your muscles only "grow" during the healing process.  Each time you workout, you are causing many small "tears" in your muscles.  If you don't rest up to allow your muscles to rebuild and get stronger, you will get much less benefit from the workouts.  Not to mention the program will be needlessly much more difficult--- it's already tough enough as it stands.

If you want to stay active every day, just target different muscle groups, or do some cardio on your push-up "off" days.  That's how I do it.  I found I can do many more pushups since I started riding my bike hardcore (with the warmer weather).  Having good lung capacity is pretty important if you want to nail the hundred at the end.
