Octo's Poll of the Week #9

It's hard to compress genre's into a small list...

If it doesn't fit, it should fit into something else, be it scifi in horror or romance in drama, whatever.

I'm a sucker for war movies, but I don't like grouping them with action/adventure. So I went with comedies. Office Space ftw.

I didn't think anybody would choose War, though most sites I looked at to compose this list did have it as it's own genre

I chose comedy. I think the best movies from a critic standpoint or oscar or whatever aren't comedies, however there is nothing like a great comedy you can watch 50 times in a row and still love. Even the best pictures you can't watch so many times unless they are a comedy, to me at least.

I probably watch more comedies than anything else (which is what I picked), but I'm also fond of westerns (basically all of Leone's stuff) and some thrillers (i.e. Donnie Darko).

Octo, have you seen The Network?

I was surprised to see it in the Comedy section of the video store, because its quite an intense drama, really excellent though. Yeah i would highly recomend it - and its pretty funny in parts too.

As for favorite genres go, I love a good Comedy or Action movie, but i usually find myself most enjoying a really good Drama / Thriller. I am also a fan of Surreal / Abstract movies by David Lynch

I love Kubrick and he basically did everything (including Horror), so i can't really vote a single genre

I used to be a big fan of horror, but it's getting boring now. Voted drama.

I voted action/adventure (more for the adventure part of it) since I suppose movies like the Lord of the Rings, Narnia, Pan's Labyrinth (and soon the Hobbit!!! ) are adventurous. I suppose pictures such as these ones could be in many genres, such as suspense, drama, sci-fi, fantasy, etc...

Comedy would probably pull a somewhat close second place. I think of movies like Big Trouble in Little China (Action/Comedy), Bottle Rocket or Rushmore-those are movies that I could watch over and over. So yeah, if I could vote for a second place genre out of what is listed by Octo, it would probably be comedy.

I can't really choose any of these genres as my absolute favourite. However, I like Musicals the least by far and war movies are overrated in general. Film Noirs are interesting but they can be boring sometimes. Why wasn't westerns an alternative?? (agrees with DK about Leone)

I also have to agree with what Luke said about Kubrick.

I can watch comedy's more than 1 time, if I watch a horror more than once, I won't get scared anymore but there are some funny films out there that make me crack up no matter how many times I see them.

EDIT: Afanoftherings................ ok you just made me want to watch big trouble in little china, no joke I'm seriously going to watch this "right" now. thanks for reminding me!

I picked Thriller. I wish it wasn't lumped into the same category as Horror since they're completely different genres. A movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat, has some action, keeps you guessing about something, and shocks you in the end where you can't help but smile at its overall cleverness and brilliance.

Drama. I love believable, good acting, and this is the genre where I see it most.

I lumped stuff so it wasn't a 1-1-2-1-2-1-1-2-2-3-1 poll result or something equally worthless

I'll say my favorites are action/adventure, mostly because of Indiana Jones, though Comedy is also very nice, as like others have said they are easy to watch over and over.

Action/Adventure for sure.
I live for stuff like Rambo, Die Hard, Indiana Jones, Mission Impossible, Jackie Chan/Jet Li movies etc. I don't like your typical comedy film though like American Pie, Pinapple express or whatever except I do LOVE watching comedy like Jackass, Cky, Wildboyz, Steve-o, Viva La Bam etc.

From that list I picked animated... there are just too many great films... Wall-E, Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Fantasia, plus all the anime ones Durk likes which I'm sure are great.

Really my favorite films are those which offer new philosophical insights or show a great character transformation, but you guys wouldn't know anything about that.

As long as there is a drugged up fucktard acting like a retard who soon dies in real life thereafter, you will all think it's a great movie. Unfortunately there is no " drugged up fucktard acting like a retard who soon dies in real life thereafter" genre for you all to select in this poll.

That's my puck baby! Don't you ever touch my puck!

Comedy.

Though "bright boy alert" almost got me to vote action. But this was not a drill, and I understood that.

I was between action and comedy. Generally, I think it's most fun when the two are combined. To that end, don't forget about Bon Cop Bad Cop later this week, Infil!

Spaghetti Western and Martial Arts movies. If i would vote one of those, it would be Action
Once a heroic Jedi Knight
Seduced by the dark side of the force
Sith Lord
Leading the Empire's eradication of the Jedi Order
