Octo's Poll of the Week #12

Maybe this isn't a problem in all sports, but if your favorite sport hasn't had issues, think about how you'd feel.  Hall of Fame, record books, etc.

I went with barred from record books only, although I'm more in favor of the controversial asterisk.

Barry Bonds - 762*

Such a shame he broke that record. But without the steroids he was probably still a hall-of-famer.

I said Hall of Fame only. They did break the records and ignoring that would seem odd, but I think using illegal drugs should certainly keep people out of the Hall of Fame. The asterisk idea is good for the books too.

Banhammer from the Hall and the Books. They are cheaters, plain and simple.

The whole Manny thing is fucking ridiculous. Guy cheats for god knows how long, then decides its too risky, so he tries to clear his system of it all... gets caught doing that, and only sits 50 games. Meanwhile, he gets to keep "in shape" by playing in the minor leagues. OH NOES HOW HORRIBLE. Makes baseball look pretty lazy, imho.

I do believe Pete Rose should be allowed in the hall, but apaprently betting on your team to win is much more horrible than being a fucking junkie loser who doesn't bathe. Huh.

they could still make the hall of fame, but if they used performance enhancing drugs their records should hardly count as such.

there's a boatload of guys that cheated and everyone knew about it that are in various major sports halls of fame. Heck there's even a guy in the baseball hall of fame that literally bought his way in. acting like the hof has any integrity is pretty ridiculous.

I didn't know "barred" was a valid word hah new one for me

on the topic, I voted for barring for both! it's like using cheats on a speedrunning ranking.. you just can't consider them when you have other people that don't use cheats competing along. If everyone used the same steroids, and the same ammount of it (which would be completely stupid anyway), you could think about it.

I really don't see what the huge goddamn advantage to using them is in the first place.

Sure, maybe you can get a little more power and speed, but most sports anyone actually gives a damn about require way more skill and finesse than sheer athletic ability anyway. FE: Barry Bonds; Guy hits like 800 homers, used roids, so what? A hit ain't gonna be a homerun without good contact anyway. Need skill to hit the ball squarely like that at 95 MPH. Hockey? Tough luck, guys with huge skill'll be dancing all around you anyway. Golf? Lol. Roids can't make you putt/aim etc.

Really, the only thing about them is it seems a huge waste to ruin your penis for a small boost that hardly matters in any real big pro sports.

Well Jack, the point is that there are a lot of people competing at that elite level. If someone got Dam 0:52 with 2x Grenade Launcher, they would still need fast gates, a good lockshot, good strafing, but in the end they still cheated. They might've been capable of getting 0:53 without the cheat, and maybe even 0:52 (somehow), but they didn't do it legitimately.

I read somewhere that hockey players really can't use steroids because the increase in muscle mass like that would make it impossible to skate. Along the same line of thinking, when they do weight training, they have to be very careful about how they build up muscle in their legs for the same reason.

I suppose all this is why the only illegal activity you ever hear hockey players involved in is drinking and driving or cocaine. :v
