Because the 2nd controller is the one that can perform actions, you want to use 2.2 or 2.4. 2.1 and 2.3 have movement on the 1st controller, which doesn't allow building speed.

2.2 has look and fire together on one controller, so it's more commonly used for comfort and for levels where you want to only operate one controller (Streets for example). 2.4 has fire on the 2nd controller, so is necessary for the firing in the opening cinema (like on Depot).

Question relating to Trevelyan and the Cradle level.

Noticed a glitch where Trev will "commit suicide" or die in an explosion but not quite sure how that all works together.

Can anyone explain in a bit more detail please?

When you're nearby Trev and facing away, he has a chance to throw grenades. If you position yourself where his nades would bounce off the wall and blow himself up, you can possibly get a fast kill on him. See here for an example and more technical details here.

If you're lucky that he kills himself fast and you're quick yourself, you can still get some minor amounts of points, but the new drone strat is much better for getting nice times.

Keep this thread going!

Can someone in detail explain the method or thought behind the Depot Warp? I heard you cannot do this on Consoles without some form of Cheat or it can be done on an Emulator with the help of lag. Pretty much, it cannot be done Non-TAS is what I'm hearing. Is this true?

^ Can anyone shine some light on this please? Quite interested in hearing a detailed answer.

Thank you! :D

All of the 23s and 24s on the depot leaderboard page are done with the depot warp on console, so yes, it's possible. It was previously thought to be TAS-only, yes. Here's a video of the first time anybody hit it without cheats on console:

On top, a few of the 25s are due to a Depot warp (Randy, Gus, Green) since they botched their runs. So long as you don't make a mistake, you're pretty much guaranteed 24 pace.

Here's an example of a 26 with the warp so that you know what to avoid:

No one thought it was possible and I pushed the level to TAS standard. Here's the OG warp though.

Hahaha, I watched that video a few times.. quite impressive when I first saw it.

After watching several others now, I realized it's not as rare as it once was.. but still must be incredibly hard to do.

To move on to another question or something I found extremely awesome when watching someone do a speedrun of Surface 2 on SA. To damage or blow-up the communications link, they tossed a grenade high in the air and blew it up instead of having to run to that particular building and then quickly finish the mission after that. Is that a hard skill-shot to accomplish?

On Train, do you not have to shoot Ourumov to rescue Natalya in order to complete the mission?

I was watching the World Record Speedrun for Agent and once he enters the last room.. he just uses his watch laser to shoot the locks off the floor and escapes.

The technique is called an r-lean, and you can see it used on any of the S2 Agent 47s or the Runway 00 Agent world record. It's a method of getting more distance on your throw. It seems difficult to be consistent with it, but in the case of Surface, you pretty much nail it once to get the time you want unless you're Birdie.

Here's a video on all the different kinds of r-leans Randy pulled out of his ass to ruin the game with :nesquik:

I'm sorry I missed your question. I'm usually all over anything that has the word "r-lean" in it. In the tutorials section you can find a surface 2 agent tutorial by Luke Szklarz:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqM_rUEigbk

My Secret Agent tutorial is out of date, and I really should make a new one.

There's really only one difference between agent and secret agent, but it's a huge one. On agent, you start with a mine, so every single run you play has a chance to be 47. You get to throw the mine every single run.  On secret agent, however, you have to hope the first guard in the level pulls a grenade. The first guard pulls a nade once every 45 minutes or so. In my opinion, the nade throw is comparably as difficult as the mine throw. So if you decide to play surface 2 agent, and you find the mine throw really easy to do, then, and only then, would I recommend looking into trying surface 2 SA. I'm always up for trying to help with any and all r-leaning if needed, so if you have any questions at all, feel free to yell at me. :)

I think this could have something to do with it:

I'm guessing this flag is only ever set for spawn guards. And i've only seen happen on Streets and Control.

Sounds like it was a required flag in order for guards to be able to harm Nat during the protect. For streets it seems like just a bit of added realism.

Yeah that makes sense. I assume Streets is for added difficulty/realism with the civilians.

I did look into it at one point, but PD scripts are just a mess of spaghetti code and undocumented functions.

I respect your question and your sentiment, but I also have a Hori pad and from experience, let me tell you that it is absolute garbage for running GoldenEye or Perfect Dark with. I invite you to prove me wrong if it's at all possible. We recommend using control style 2.x on a regular N64 pad.

It is legal however, since it is an officially licensed nintendo controller. Same goes for the fishing rod, steering wheel, and power glove.  :nesquik:

^ BRIO got his Defense untied with a Hori pad. Also your officially-licensed-argument is flawed because we allow all kinds of third party controllers and replacement sticks. And for the strafe change controller with 2.2, GC-style replacement stick >> official stick.

DAYUM. Didn't know that about Brio. I sit corrected about the Hori pad, haha.
My original point of it being legal is still valid.  :kappa: I suppose my wording was horribly off, seeing as I know we've used superpads and a bunch of other things such as cube sticks, so you're right!

Unless it's just a myth then maybe screen settings could affect the precise time when the gate guard is loaded as Bond approaches the corner in the tunnel (some more details on this in the recent Dam incentive topic). If the gate guard is loaded slightly earlier with fullscreen then the gates would be faster on average. Not sure if screen settings can affect guard behavior at all though. Difficult to test on console I guess, but on emulator it could be analyzed.

I'm pretty sure screen settings affect draw distance of the game, because on deep sea SA when Boss was playing at SGDQ the TV ran pal but not well, so we needed to play on cinema to see the whole screen.

The farsight trick needed to be on full screen to work (maybe wide as well don't rememeber) but it for sure didn't work on cinema so he would pause to change before the shot.

Thus things load differently at different ranges based on resolution, on dam the guard would load in faster on full vs wide/cinema resulting in more fast gates.

You might think that. But it's really just the farsight zoom distance that is affected by resolution.

If someone gets a chance, I'd really like to know what the odds are for any guard on Runway 00a to do a running animation.  I'd like to calculate the probability of being trolled per run.  I'd be willing to wager that the probability, using a 33 pace or better strat, will blow attack ship ending out of the water.

I know that for some levels like Dam Agent you should use Fullscreen to maximize a WR pace. Are there any other levels that have certain screens or ratios that are better for improving times?

What are the exact mechanics behind slap damage? Why does it seem to vary a lot, what causes it, and does location of hit have any effect?

not exactly sure, but back slaps do more damage then front slaps, and when you hold Z it seems to do more damage then a z press that is not held. This is  knowledge from playing egypt slappers only but not technical in any way

I looked at it a bit with memory watching and the damage done seems to vary quite a bit.

A "normal" slap will generally do 0.5 damage. However, the max damage for a slap seems to be 4.0. A full lookdown slap will often do 2.0 damage but 1.0/4.0 are also possible. Consecutive slaps usually deals more (x2?) damage than the first slap. It is possible to get a full 4.0 slap on the first one, but the guard might need to be in a random animation and not detect you for that to happen.

The minimum damage seems to be 0.125, which can occur if you duck and hit the guards legs. 1.0 seems to be max when hitting the legs like this. With 0.25 and 0.5 are possible as well.

All in all, I think there's alot of factors at work here, and figuring them all out might take some work.

To be honest, I have no idea where to post this. Sorry if it's the wrong topic.

I've just seen the GoldenEye rankings after some time witout doing it, and apparently country flags have been added next to the name of each player.

I don't really care much, but anyway: Jordi Duran is from Spain (he has no flag). If someone can add it and wants to, feel free to do it.

It's shit. Just do it in right strafe and YOLO it. You'll get it 2/3 of the time though it shouldn't be too bad on agent.

Remember on agent you're warping with Z; hit Z once to throw the briefcase or whatever it is, then Z again to warp the opening door.

Has anyone checked Bond's velocity's on Surface 1/2 and compared it with his velocity on other levels? I mean I expect his relative movement to be quicker because there is less friction on snow but has anyone actually confirmed that?

Besides eBay, would anyone know of a reliable / not-sketchy place to buy PAL cartridges or consoles for someone who lives in the US? I'm already looking into ways to try and get them to work on my NTSC TV and whatnot.

Thank you!

I got most my imports on http://www.ebay.co.uk/ you could also try https://www.amazon.co.uk/ But make sure it is PAL!
I saw a lot of listings on ebay that were under PAL but were actually NTSC because the seller had no idea what the difference is so be sure to ask the seller to check the bottom of the console if they don't know the difference

Also pal will not work on ntsc tvs

PAL crts can be difficult to come by in the states so keep looking.

this is where I got mine a long time ago http://www.worldwidevoltage.com/sharp-14--super-multi-system-tv-model--14d2-for-110-220-volts.html?utm_source=googlepepla&utm_medium=adwords&id=61865531738
You can call them and check if they have some still in stock. Shipping was pricey but it was brand new.
If you can get this tv you will need this transformer to plug in the tv. https://www.amazon.com/Simran-AC-500-Voltage-Converter-Transformer/dp/B004MPR3XQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1475086038&sr=1-1&keywords=Simran+AC-500+Step+Up%2FDown+Voltage+Converter+Transformer+110V%2F220V+-+500+Watts

Also keep an eye out for security's monitors tvs some of them are multi region

Can someone look into that strat where you shoot at the guards on the tower on Dam SA, and they act like retards when going down the ladder and open the alarm door? It happened once and I think it's about time we use healthier strats on Dam.

This is a question for Henrik.

On Facility, the lone scientist in the lab at the end of the level stands there for a certain amount of time. Eventually, he decides to run all the way back to the bathroom and hides in a stall.

Does the Goldeneye script code indicate what prompts him to do this?
Embrace the grind.

It's a 4 minute timer, starting at the cinema.

Can you recall roughly where you were when you shot? And which tower it was?

Also did the guard ever see Bond?
