Why aren't people participating in the weekly GE agent race?

I find this is a self-answering or even a rhetoric question.

1. People live in many different time zones and it's tough to get people to agree to a particular time, because
2. They have priorities that surpass gaming at that certain time
3. People may not care about racing at this point
4. People may not wish to grind out some RTA or even play RTA

I myself am stuck on 1 & 2.

Icy/Henrik/Grav,

Is the coefficient of friction always the same for every level? I'm pretty sure it's sometimes higher on the dam on Dam on some sessions compared to others.

How do you manipulate Xenia's spawn location on Jungle?

Xenia spawns in the same location every time, when you start the level. The only factor is when she gets activated and how far she gets to run. Lookdown etc... can affect that but it's a bit random and there's no way that I know of to get the "perfect" Xenia location every time.

Alright. I was trying stuff like taking a wider strafe angle away from the trees before Xenia, but that probably just loses time. It sucks when she spawns right behind the tree in front of your face, but that's RNG.
Embrace the grind.

A follow up to a previous post RE: streets guard after the switch, directed at Henrik:

This run is very noteworthy as it has (after the val leave): the guard near the switch (I assume Red guard?), the lure guard just past the tunnel and the (assumed) Blue Guard who shoots a GL at me.

Just for clarification, this was only possible due to a red+blue guard death very early on yes? Want to nip any inconsistent strat ideas in the bud before theorycrafting 153, as this is most likely a 1 in 200+ hour occurrence.

Does anyone else get blisters on their thumbs and spend many hours grinding an IL for a pointless time? I know I deserve to for using 1.1, but whatever, 1.2 is like inverted in the Halo games to me, so I don't want to adapt to it, even if I'm limiting myself. Also, does anyone know the best times achieved in 1.1 for Streets SA and 00A?
I finally earned Goldeneye points, wow.

I'm sure several of the older 1:56s are in 1.1 (see: Lovins)
Are you starting in 2.x? That would make it a lot easier.

By now you could have been the next Ogran. :nesquik:

The games are much funner when you're playing for points, competing with others, and are more overall engaged with the community. Make the switch dude!

Yeah I'm not sure why you would 'spend many hours grinding an IL for a pointless time'.
You know what you need to do to improve, it's like your care enough to grind for hours, but not enough to make the obvious switch. Comes off as confusing.

Alright I'll keep this simple. 1.2 control style to me is just as hard as playing blindfolded, it's not something I want to adjust to. In most console video games, you use a joystick or d-pad to move, I want to keep playing like that, it's natural for me. Nice analogies though, they gave me a good laugh.  I'm not trying to compete with others for points, I'm just playing to get times that I'm satisfied with and to get a better overall time rank. I'll consider using 2.x for Streets 00A until the part where I switch, because it's early in the level.

Use 1.2 and play with Spec style grip. Spec and Sam use it, and have achieved some nice times.

I don't think 1.2 comes easily to anybody at first, it takes some time to get used to. And it seems like you do care about points to some degree, because if you were just going for time rank, you'd be shaving minutes off your 00 times like B2/Jungle/Aztec etc instead of going for a second or 2 cut on streets.

Absolutely switch to 1.2. It's awkward and difficult at first, but well worth it. You'll be doing your point total and hands a favor. Levels like Surface 1, Fac agent, and Archives will give you nasty blisters if you use 1.1. This is what ultimately caused me to change control styles.
Embrace the grind.

That might be a good idea (for probably the first time ever). You can always calibrate the sensitivity of the buttons by opeining the controller and sticking a few pieces of paper/rubber in the Dpad, in case it feels mushy or stuck.

We all get it that you don't have huge goals and mostly enjoy the fun in the game. But the amount of time spent literally won't change. So why choose to spend 20h struggling your way into a 1999-tier PR rather than spending the same amount of hours caking the standard low-pointers, even if you struggle with the control style at first?

Self-handicapping gaming makes sense, but in reality it just doesn't accomplish anything. Just ask the low-tier-character players who won major championships in competitive gaming. Oh wait, that's right, there are none, not even Axe or aMSa in Melee.

I bet that if you switch, you'll match all your current PRs within a week (if you consistently play 1.2 only, of course).

The only reason those times in particular are so bad (Caverns 00 too) is because I struggle to even complete those levels. I die on 99% of my attempts. They aren't even "speedruns" really, I was just going for completions so I could unlock Egypt and LTK/DLTK. Aztec 00A took like 4 hours to complete.

Come on dude... don't show signs of a lazy, incapable admin. Why does that matter? To know who he is on the rankings? I was curious as to who he was too, and it only took me about 5 seconds after Ctrl+F'ing his nickname on the player's page.

I was wondering what is the max of the ingame timer? Is there a limit and what happens when it reaches the end?
I've gotten over 11 hours and I don't think I got close.

Since the N64 has 4.5 MB of memory, counters are naturally capped at 2^(4.5 * 8 * 2^20) - 1 :kappa:

On a more serious note, the max counter for seconds and kills is probably 2^16 - 1 (uint16), 2^31 - 1 (int32), or 2^32 - 1 (uint32). It can't be 2^15 - 1 (int16) because 2^15 - 1 = 32767 corresponds to a 546:07 timer which is disproven by your screenshot. Maybe its 2^16 - 1 = 65535 or 1092:15 ... anyone volunteering to find out?

There is an old, related discussion somewhere on these boards (and about best times beyond ~15 minutes not saving), when someone tried to get a time of 0:00 on Dam Agent with timer overflow, but I can't find it.

Ill test out the times not saving but How long would 2^(4.5 * 8 * 2^20) - 1 be? Also would the game just crash? What would happen?

That was a joke; it would mean that the entire N64 memory was used for a single counter. The maximum value would be a number with more than 11 million digits, while just a 17-digit number of seconds has passed since the big bang <@:-)

Treble just figured out Justin was an experiment to see if someone could copy another player's runs, put a different deinterlacing filter on it, and post it.
True top 10.

But m8, hav u met Justin? I did.  :nesquik:

On Fac, is there a foolproof way to warp the door right before snaking up the staircase and entering the labs? My consistency is horrible and it doesn't seem like it should be this tough.
Embrace the grind.

I don't believe there's necessarily a "foolproof" way to do it as it relies on a) your consistency and b) how laggy the particular run is.

You always want to try to hit it like you'd try to hit the depot warp (my belief; not sure if anyone shares this thought). What I mean is, try not to hit the warp by hitting the door and then warping right after you touch it, but rather AS you touch it. Like if you watch Clemens' 43, you notice he gets a tiny stuck. On Ace's he gets a weird situation but the guard jumps out of the way on that one. My favourite example of the warp to use would have to be Ace's SA 52. It's basically perfect.

You also need to change the angle as you get through it, and there's no really clear indicator for timing it other than grinding it out and feeling the consistency for yourself, honestly. You can think of it as a "sweeping warp" of sorts like how warping on silo works; basically you turn the stick as you're warping to find the sweet spot for it to push you through. Not sure if that makes much sense.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that you should try to approach the door at like a 30-45 degree angle, rather than straight at it perpendicular.

TL;DR, just grind it out and u get gud.  :v

It shouldn't be that hard. You just slowly turn towards the right side when approaching the door, back-switch just a tenth or two before you touch the door and be as much to the right as possible as the door is opening. You should have the timing and angle right. Alec explains it nicely.

I can't really provide any other useful information without a video showing how you do it on a normal run. It's an easy warp and you clearly have to be doing something wrong if your consistency is bad.
