I've been grinding Caverns A in order to learn 2.2 (and also because I really like the level).  During a session this morning I got this boost from the guard at the start of the spiral and was curious how rare this boost actually is?  Maybe I'm just unlucky, this was the first time I've seen/gotten this particular boost during my time (approx. 12-15 hours of dedicated 2.2 Caverns A play).  Apologies if this is not at all remarkable/noteworthy.

My guess is that's rare as FUCK on agent, but you also took a wide line to start your spiral. My assumption is that the boost there is negligible because of this.

In Facility, is the fast open door after the long room with 3 guards in only fast if you're at WR pace? I generally lose 1-2 seconds at this part of the level.
When I use the strat, I get the door about 1/8 open. Idk if it's a time saver at this point.

Hey all, working on adding 2.2 to my Dam 53 attempts, not sure I'm doing it right, so what all should I be aware of?

Currently I cruise control the second controller to forward, then watch some of the cutscene (I've been using a musical cue to figure out when to skip), while holding left strafe on the second controller. I switch to right at the gate as per normal. Is this correct?

That all sounds about right, so long as you're waiting enough cutscene, and that you're switching strafe right after you press the button.

Make sure that you're getting full speed at all times. If your second stick is not CC'd well enough, if you're not putting it in the right place, or if it's not sensitive enough, you could be losing a decent portion of the speed that you would get with 1.2. This could make your runs seem fast, but be much slower than your regular runs. There is a way to test your speed that has something to do with running into a wall, but I don't know it off the top of my head.

I'd add make sure you're playing on full
There are two points where the modern strats differ from common sense too:
1. Ogran's optimization for consistently fast gates (look at the turn Karl makes @26s)

2. Going straight to the railing after the lock shot (see my dupe from a couple days ago @45s vs the line Cervone takes after his lock shot)

Ye like mw said a decent stick is pivotal. I worked out that I was loosing the 0.3 saved at the start as my strafe change was wank - you could visually see bond slow done during the change. I clocked a run at around 54.1ish with this bad stick as well which was fun.

Hey guys, got a question about Bunker 1 Agent. Whenever I'm going around the table, if I'm looking down too far, bond won't pick up the key. I was wondering why that is, and maybe if it has something to do with Bond's hitbox? Thanks!

I can't speak to the 'why', but it's not just the key - you can't pick up any item if you're looking down too far

Full game RTA runs. Sorry if this has been explored already...

It seems that doing some cheats before completing 00 may save a little time navigating the menu. For example, after completing cradle 00, one has to use the menu to select Aztec (to avoid the credits), at which point one can choose Secret Agent to get the cheat first. After obtaining the cheat you can press [B,A,A,Start] very quickly with no cursor movement to choose the same level on 00. This avoids the requirement to manually navigate to Aztec again later in the run saving maybe 0.3 to 0.5 seconds. This seems a better order anyway as Aztec is more likely to fail than Egypt.

Not sure if there's a payoff to trying this on other levels as normally it's quick to mash start to progress through the 00 Agent levels directly + might as well get the hard stuff done first.

Of course, this only really makes sense if the run is not on track to also get the 00 Agent RTA record.

Is this a viable / known optmization?

Where your cursor defaults to after completing and re-selecting a level differs by version  :nesquik:
If i completed a 00A level on English then hit B to the select difficulty screen, the cursor would be on 00A - on Jap it would default to Agent.

Either way I'm sure it'll be quite a ways off where the category is optimized enough to care too much about menuing

I'm having trouble getting the mainframe glass to work. Previously, I was able to get 4 openings in 15 minutes, but in my recent sessions, my chances have been around 10%. Here are 3 attempts I had with no glass: #1, #2, #3

Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Did I just have exceptionally good luck before? Am I just having exceptionally bad luck now? I also noticed that the hall guard warps the mainframe, so since he reaches the glass first, it makes sense to lure him first, allowing for less waiting time. However I switched back to mainframe guard first since that's what I did before, but both ways have resulted in very few glass openings.

So as a new player, i'm still learning a lot. But there are a few things i have started to piece together on Aztek as Ive begun to grind.
Out of the 3 videos you posted Icy, The shots on the mainframe are (possibly) too far to the left. And by too far, I mean maybe a couple "in game" inches. If that makes sense.

The other thing i have noticed to make the glass open a little more consistently is, when i leave the glass to run to the second position I stand and look directly at the "Brown" wall. Perfectly straight. I might have 1-2 pixels of the "white computer wall" on the right hand side of my screen.
I do a couple quick buffers and then when i hear the mainframe door go all the way down I turn to the right and start a Left-Forward strafe to get ready to run for the glass.

I doesn't work EVERYTIME, But i notice I get it, roughly, 70% of the time.
I don't know if I really explained that well. But you can see what I'm talking about by checking my aztek agent 151.

Hopefully this helps the tiniest bit :)

-Archie

It might be turning away from the left side of the wall too quickly. I think you want to be looking more towards the right once the door has opened.

Also, the shots could be more to the right. But he had lured the guards so I don't think that's the problem here.

Would the lag spike coming from a high lag event, such as a boost or explosion, be smaller on full screen than wide or cinema? The question boils down to could boosts be worth more on full screen due to less lag spike.

Just an update on the glass issue because I fixed it. Basically, the hall guard will warp the mainframe and when guards reach their destination and stop moving, they will do their usual step/spin in place. My bad lures were always in the middle of the glass instead of the left side, and that distance difference is enough time for the mainframe guard to open the glass far more often.

A couple other important details: when you want to have the mainframe opened, you need to be facing the pinkish wall during the time for a pause-in/pause-out plus ~1.5s, or else you'll get an unopening mainframe because it's not unloaded.

I've been getting glass on real runs like ~90% of the time now.

Since it does say any question, here it goes:

I'm not the most experienced player ever. I've been playing Facility Agent on and off for the past year or so. I started out getting 01:00 then whittled it down to 00:59, 00:58, 00:57 before finally getting a "good" time for me of 00:54. Then I went on a "God" run for me and got 00:52. Impressive shit I know. That must have been about 3 months ago. I don't have a video to show, but it was your standard 00:52 run. Nothing fancy. Since then I have improved a lot at the game and at the level. Better strafing, cutting corners better, better warps, better use of mines and better vent leave at the start of the level, but I can't seem to get anything near 00:51. The only handicap I have is that I use the 1.1 control style and that I use PAL. I am going mad.

Without seeing a video and with the only information being "I got these times, got better, but now have hit a wall" there isn't a whole lot to say.

The only handicap I have is that I use the 1.1 control style and that I use PAL.

There's your problem. Switch to 1.2 right away and begin the process of rebuilding muscle memory. If you insist on using 1.1, then you should probably cruise control the stick (Hold it in the down position and press L+R+Start) and if you have a badly worn stick you will lose a lot of time to 1.1 as well, specifically on turns.

How much time does 1.2 save on average?! I'm literally useless at it. Useless. I don't even know if I could beat Dam Agent in 3 minutes with it.

Also, I cleaned out the stick and replaced the bearings. It doesn't seem too bad now. Better than it was before. I can't believe that 00:52 is a max time on Facility Agent using 1.1 though.

1.2 doesn't objectively save time, but it makes it so you dont LOSE time literally everywhere.

As a former 1.1 player, 1.2 does have some advantages:

-Since you don't need the stick to travel, accelerating is very slightly faster, and you can keep full speed better, I always felt you couldn't do a full turn as well as full forward with 1.1 unless you CC. Personally I hated CCing but I still confirmed to myself it was faster when trying it, so I opted to switch to 1.2.
-Looking up and down is also much better, there's only one speed on 1.1 and it isn't as fast. Given how important lookdown and small adjustments to view can be, this is a big one.
-Less noisy. But you lose out on the ASMR of the stick bashing into the case constantly.
-I was watching Irie's stream a few months ago and he made a good point: you will wear your stick out more slowly with 1.2 since you're mostly making smaller and less violent movements depending on the level. Plus your thumb is always weighing down the stick, grinding the bowl; this is the quickest way to get a loose stick. Some levels force you to do this a bit even with 1.2, but it makes open levels like Streets way easier on it. With 1.1 you'd need to lean on the stick the whole time or you'd lose speed in spots, but with 1.2 or 2.x the whole level is comparatively light on the stick.

Given that there's no ideal replacement stick out there for this game, this is a fair point. It may be a good idea to lubricate the bowl to slow this process, I used graphite and there wasn't any white powder after maybe 200ish hours of play.

It's an adjustment at first but there are certain levels you can play with it to learn. Facility isn't really one of them because it's so technical, it's actually the level I was playing when I switched and took me a long time (month) to be able to play it again. I'd suggest going for some of the more open levels to build up better OCB with it, or a shorter level without strafe changes since you'll make fewer mistakes with the new style. CCing would probably be a fair adjustment too, I tried it for a short while and was faster, but I kept getting caught up at the console because I couldn't back out and kept making mistakes with my timing throughout. Obviously that made it hard to PB until I got used to 1.2 but the change was worth it, even though I still suck at Facility. It's a hard level.

I half remember reading somewhere on the forum here that strafing presents a smaller target to hit.
Does anyone have a source for this?

I've been doing some testing now with guards trying to get to an invisible Bond and he seems to have a square collision 'box' which does not rotate as bond rotates. If this behaviour carries over to bullets it would mean that only the direction you travelled, rather than if you were strafing or not, would effect the chance of getting hit.

I don't know where you read that strafing itself reduces Bond's hotbox, but looking down hard does.

I"m curious if a certain degree of look-up on cradle agent can affect how quickly Trev runs to the hut. I want more consistent 34 paces.

Also, what's your take on switching to unarmed after reaching the bottom of the ramp. Do you think it makes your turn down the last set of stairs more crisp?

if you use the drone strat pretty much every run is 34 pace - looking up or down is gonna affect where the hut guard is tho

Frigate Agent:
I had some excessive lookdown going up the first flight of stairs. When I opened the door at the top there was no guard in the hallway (outside of the hostage room). Seemed a bit strange. I've also had guards not loading in Aztec (still doing things the long way until I get glass down)

What's up with the occasional sound effect glitches on cradle when you're killing the first guard? When you kill the guard it sometimes sounds like the weapons are dropped really close to Bond.

38.6 is 52 pace so a 37 quitout would be like 51 to 52 pace lol. So 38 to 39 quitout is 53 pace.

38.6 is 52 pace so a 37 quitout would be like 51 to 52 pace lol. So 38 to 39 quitout is 53 pace.
The fuck are you talking about...

37 is 53.

Completely wrong. ~36.8 quitout is 52, not 38.6. 37 quitout is what you want to look for on 53 attempts.

Any suggestions on making it easier to see on Surface 2? I have always played it with the lights turned off to try and maximize what I can see but I was wondering if people have other recommendations (max brightness/contrast on tv or something) to playing this dark level?

If you're using regular AV cables with nonpowered splitters (like this: https://i.imgur.com/KW43vwZ.jpg) then you should get a powered splitter if its way too dark, or get a svideo/av cable and play on av and capture with svideo (or the other way around if your tv has svideo)

36.8 quitout is 52.

36.8 quitout is not 52. The vast majority of runs will require a .6 decimal to get down to the next second barrier. .7 at max with the quickest endings (which appear to be a bit random) which are very rare.

Thanks man! I'm just using the Dazzle to split video to the laptop and tv.  I'm assuming that's a powered splitter since it needs to be plugged in to work. Using the regular AV cable (red yellow white).

Does shooting a hostage on frigate have any effect on which deloading zone they pick?
What research is out on deloading zones?
