Boosted off the stairs in second room is very common but the faster and cleaner you get through the better the odds will go from losing 4/5 runs to only 2/5 runs there. It was a good meme when Greenounet was streaming silo SA, he had a boosted off the stairs counter. Make sure you are playing on English. I'm not sure where you are trying to quit out to judge pace, but just like agent, when you pause for the camera you should be able to judge your pace (with a perfect ending) from looking at the seconds hand on Bond's watch, and otherwise there's a timer on the level the whole time so just compare splits with a 1:15 or something. The satellite shouldn't be janky, it's quite easy in fact but the common mistake I see players make is they aren't in planar view when snapping the pic. Need everything from top to bottom to register the photo. Only need the door a crack open for it to work, don't need to see the satellite at all, watch my silo SA 1:11 to see a very good example of how to play that area. I snap one photo and then warp the door immediately before the guard can kneel and block the entrance fully. For the lag in the level, try killing as many guards as possible, and use a lookdown angle just under planar, but just know you are playing one of the laggiest levels ever, and the ending is the same for everyone more or less at 2 fps. My 1:11 has multiple mistakes, even the 1:07 untied isn't perfect, it's a very hard level that will never see a perfect run but this makes a decent time not so hard as it is underplayed. It's pretty easy to get a 1:15 pace pause to camera only to come out with a 1:24 or so, just gotta keep getting those pauses and clutch a run. Let me know in discord if there's anything I can more quickly clear up for you. I'm interested in going for 1:10 or better so maybe you can catch a stream of mine with input display, don't know how else to teach the dat room, there's a couple ways to do it (left strafe to circuitry like Goose, or right strafe like Marc which I prefer) just gotta watch videos till you understand the inputs and lookup needed. Also if you haven't yet realized, usually when you get to the dat room on a cycle the dat scientist runs to the barrels, if you open the door yourself he's usually in the corner so base your approach every run off that.  Cheers- Irie

So I was watching a bunch of archives videos to get inspired to play the level, and came across a "let's play"-style video of someone barely getting the invisibility cheat on archives 00. One of the commenters posted this:

"AndiotiZ

There was that glitch you could do by tapping the start button really quickly to get Mishkin to finish talking really fast and instantly give you the key, it worked for me once but was really hard to do."

Is there any validity to this kind of speech skipping?

Meant to ask this question way back, but sometimes I notice Bond does not pick up body armor even if he stands right on top of it. He seems to pick it up instantly once you pause-unpause, though. This even persists when I restart the console. Any reason for this / way to fix this?

You can't pick things up if you're looking too far down.

I have some questions about TAS.

First. Does a list of best TAS times exist enywhere online to find?
And seconldy are there a beginners guide for TAS that someone whould reccomend? This looks veary intriguing to me to play around with but i don not know where to start.

Any answers are greatful.

P.S. I know that alot of peaople look down on TAS:ing on speedrunning but i think it is veary interesting. I come from the world of Chess where there is Chess cimputers and human players but the humans are using the computers to become better players all the time.

The comparison to chess doesn't really make sense, because at least there the human and computer is playing the same game - goldeneye on console and goldeneye on emulator aren't the same game

Is there a way to make it to play on the console? Pushing inputs in some way? Maybe have been done already, just asking.

TAS on emu is the same game but not emulated to the exact same standard n64 hardware runs the game so things react differently and lag varies in small amounts throughout the emulation, so it's very hard to make them exact without using the same hardware. As for running TAS input to console it's very possible with software and an Arduino contraption of some sort but the downside is that GoldenEye obviously has RNG elements to it so even if you had a set of inputs to work with guards can react differently/ boosted at different points per run/ lag changing input timings whereas the leisure of emulator over this problem is save stating and frame advancing.

Why doesn't anybody quick pause while waiting for the first two doors to open on Aztec?! Just not worth it?!

While waiting on the doors to open we hold speed, if we were to stop and quickpause we would lose more time than the quickpauses would save.

This is not the case in say, bunker 1 agent because we do it almost immediately after the level begins and so we haven't gotten close to full speed.

Not to mention quickpausing there would be difficult to do consistently because of all the lag from guards shooting at you and stuff.

Only 6 pauses or quickpauses speeds up the next pauses. After 6 it maxes out. So on Aztec we usually do some quickpauses at the glass or waiting for it to open depending on the glass strat, and no other quickpauses before it would effectively help save any time, especially trading full speed at the start as you suggested.

Right, been meaning to ask this for a while, but didn't want to be seen as clogging up the forums and with Karl's latest video dedicated to John Kaleta, I kind of see it as less not-appropriate.

Apart from John Kaleta, are there any known Eliters that have, unfortunately, passed away?!

R.I.P. John Kaleta.

Not sure if it's better to request a full tutorial of B2 SA, but I could use some pointers on the last 2 cams and attracting the keyguard consistently on B2 SA? Is hitting the last cam that low percentage?

For the life of me I can't pick up the grenade box on runway A/SA 2.X. I shoot right over it. Cruise control the stick straight down (stick is 9-10/10, bought 2 years ago used exclusively for 2.X). I start in left manual strafe and miss the box every time. 1.2 is never a problem. Tips? (Only going for 23A/25SA (have 24A/26SA) right now but it's dumb to not use 2.X so close to the WR)

Does anyone have any tips for not choking runs.
Either in rta or single levels.

I can’t count how many times I’ve slipped my finger off the controller, misplaced a mine, missed an easy shot etc.

Your blood starts rushing and your heart starts racing= easy choke
I wish I was the best.

Only standard stress responses:
- Put yourself in that situation more often, makes it easier to handle (For example, I've been in the Aztec vents on PB pace enough that my heart doesn't beat out of my chest quite the same way that it used to)
-Control your breathing, go deep. You're inclined to shallow breath under stress.
-Get comfortable, make sure you're focused entirely on the game and not if you're going to balance your drink on your lap at the same time.
-Practice and attempt style - this depends on the level, sometimes the only way to practice is to be on pace (looking at you, Silo), but some things you can practice on dead runs. Keep choking the mine throw on S2 SA or 00? Run out everything to the end and practice the throw every time.  Keep choking the key throw on B1 Agent? Spend the first 15 mins every session playing out runs to refresh the timing. Choke the hole entry on Cradle? Warm up by playing the level with the golden gun and practice the hole entry with the door open....

There's probably plenty of better ideas out there, but there's a few to get started

Great answers. I appreciate you all
Also Luke I started back at the gym, ju jitsu and this absolutely gorgeous girl in my town teaches reiki (form of meditation I believe) so I started that lol.
Mindfulness has never helped me and I’m not sure of any other meditation techniques.
I do suffer from bipolar disorder and GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) so it is hard for me to kinda sit still. I’m on so much medications it’s ridiculous.

Anyway thank you guys, I’m going to do some research, not just for speedrunning but in general I’m sure I can benefit from meditation.

Don't let yourself get too attached to the run, know that if you fail, there are more runs like it to come.

Tell yourself it's not the end of the world if you lose the run, and you are more likely to overcome the pressure.

Also, as cliche as this sounds, just have confidence in yourself and your ability.

Second the deep breathing suggestion. If you get the key boost or objective onscreen that makes the PB possible, start breathing through your nose and settle in for the ending.

-Ergonomics and posture are also a big thing, if you're not in a comfortable and relaxed position then it may be harder to focus or you may lose some dexterity. If you're sitting at a 45 degree angle to the TV and craning your neck to read chat or something then it will be harder to be consistent. If playing 2.x consider using a pillow or holding the controller in your lap to make it more comfortable. Finally consider trying to find a grip style with maximum comfort and precision for you.

-To add to the last point, you will have better reaction time and visual acuity with your foveal vision, ie looking directly at the TV in the center of your field of vision, and also don't turn your neck but face the TV directly during the run. You'll often have trouble clutching if you're not in a ready position once you know shit's going down. You don't usually see the top runners looking out of the corner of their eyes during the crucial part of the run, they usually are visibly focused on what's going on. 99% of gameplay may be more casual on some levels but when it's time to execute you want the maximum consistency.

-Practice the endings, practice with cheats on or using 007 mode if applicable. This goes especially for levels like Depot SA/00A or Streets Agent where you only get past the start once in a while. If you haven't done the end of the level in a while or you're warming up, be sure to keep your muscle memory sharp and avoid needless errors due to rust or unfamiliarity. Know the quitouts and ending times you need to show pace so you can avoid sloppy play and master those sections.

-Failing to clutch runs is definitely a learning experience. It's awful when it happens but it will make you a better player because when you know it could be the run it's a totally different animal than a typical attempt. Don't get too worked up trying to force it, just let muscle memory mostly take over and stay in control. Trying to do too insane of an ending will hurt often times. Remind yourself that the times with a lot of ties tend to not be that tight and trying to do too much is worse in many cases than confidently doing what you know to be consistent pace.

I was just doing a full run through on 00 helping my buddy get the cheats..
anyway, I was playing silo and I went through the whole level and it said that Objective A hadn't completed.

So I went back through all the rooms and planted the c4 again.. still didn't complete..

Has anyone experienced this before? im so confused.

Note that if a plastique bounces and does not "stick" to the floor, wall or an object in of one of the main rooms, it will not count for objective A.

yeah but twice? it seemed like a super laggy run, as I wasn't speedrunning it I was just trying to beat the level.
ill take what your said as the probable reason for what happened.. just kind of strange imo

Where's the post (from Glenidres maybe?) listing all the times which were LSUs throughout history?

I saw it recently, I should have bookmarked it.  Just went through his post history and the data thread and couldn't find it.

Mostly, I'm trying to find the exact DATE where Dam 00A 1:55 took over as the LSU ever from Jungle SA 0:53.

Mostly, I'm trying to find the exact DATE where Dam 00A 1:55 took over as the LSU ever from Jungle SA 0:53.

Is 2.x viable as a 1.2 keyboard style player? Or will I have to get used to alien ?

As a 1.2 keyboard player, 2.x isn't really like alien finger - you aren't having to hold any c-buttons in 2.x. You just have a bit of a claw with your index finger to be able to hit A/B, the same way the few D-pad players hold it.

A bit of a long shot here, but does anybody here have any idea what the last Untied was that was done with 1.1 control style?!

I honestly have no idea, but if I had to guess then I'd probably say Wouter's 00:51 on Depot 00 Agent.

Thanks.

Guessing it might be Goose's Silo SA 1:09 from 10.27.09. Goose can probably confirm if it was with 1.1 or not, but its one of his times for sure.

Does anyone know exactly where the joystick becomes fully engaged?. For 2.x I have a GC stick, and when I use CC down or down-left/right and push the opposite direction I can still see it move slightly on the controller screen. I'm pretty sure it's fine because I did get runway 22 and a dam 53 with it. But I just want to make sure it's not like 99% engaged and losing frames on runs.

Yeah it's fine the n64 can only read a certain range of values, the GameCube stick exceeds those values greatly. You should be fine gutter

Why don’t kill the first two hostage takers before throwing the bug on frigate SA? Like open both doors kill the two hostage takers and then throw the bug and continue.
