If it works it's fine, there cannot be noticeable delay in analog land. However there are superstitious quacksalvers in t-e and elsewhere who presume passive splitters would cause lag, which tricked poor MirrorMage into getting Dam 117 uncaptured.

Could doing the lockshot before the fence on Dam A be faster than after?

Using the KF7 (first attempt with KF7, so wasn't expecting to even hit it):  http://youtu.be/1B-CBb9TCc0

2 tries later using the PP7:  http://youtu.be/YukkxoNDlrc (should be fully uploaded in about 40 minutes)

Horrible runs, but it still illustrates the strat and that it's possible with both guns.

Time saved would probably be minimal and the (assumed) drop in consistency simply wouldn't be worth it. Also, it would only be "useful" on Agent since SA/00A use leftstrafe for the alarm.

But who knows, maybe someone will go for 52 in the future :P

If you do that you can't use lookdown there and it's a bit laggy so it would lose time, I guess it would save a bit if one could warp the lockgate in return but overall probably would be like getting one boost and then getting a back in return and losing consistency too.

Am I missing something on Caverns SA? In the Objective B area, the doorway with the turret (which leads to the objective C area and the elevator) is locked. The guy at the bottom of the stairs near the objective has a keycard, but the keycard is not for this door. So, how do I get access? I know the RCP guy has a keycard for this door, but he is miles away and it will probably add an extra minute or so onto my time to go there and back.

If i understood your question correctly, you just need to be faster so that Trev doesn't close the door on you.

You have to be there before Trev passes the door, it will close behind him. He will be there somewhere around 1:45-2:00 (random). My guess is that you're too slow. It shouldn't be a problem if you practice some more. True, when Trev is faster you have to get keycards and your speedrun is over.

Yeah, that explains it, thanks. It most definitely is the speed.

Sorry to ask yet another question, but this is the first time I've done GE speedrunning so not really up on the strats (and some things aren't clear on the wiki).

On Frigate, I can't seem to do the pipe warping glitch. I get that you need to switch from phantom (presumably a forward and not a backward switch) but is there any particular place, or movement that enables you to warp through. I've tried mucking about on agent trying to do it, but can never get it to work!

Thanks

Switching to unarmed works best

Shooting a little bit with the Phantom, 3-5 seconds before you get to the pipes, creating lag, also helps.

Angle of the warp, weapon switch, timing all factor in to that warp. Phantom to unarmed is by far the best. Try staying as much in the middle as possible.

Don't kill all the wards in your way to the pipes, because you want lag to get consistency with the warp.

@MYT: don't bother reading the strats on SRW, it's a waste of time. Watch WR or 80+ point videos instead and try and copy them.

To hell with SRW, I think it would be really cool to do a verbal tutorial over a run and upload them all somewhere. I'd be more-than-willing to be professor Jimbo on how to get 90 point times 101 :D

If this is ever made, I think a lot of people would thank a tutorial for every other stage aswell. Just saying. There are a lot of strafe changes, lookups/lookdowns, shoots that seem random around many levels that help you getting faster times... A good example of a tutorial like that is the Silo Agent one by Luke Scklarz.

SamSim wrote the wiki? Oh, ok ... I won't bother with it anymore.

Tutorial vids sound like a great idea Jimbo. The problem I find with watching the WR vids is that sometimes everything happens so fast (like the pipe warping) or the method is slightly obscure (like aztec), so they can be difficult to imitate.

Thanks for all your help guys!

Assuming this crap and uncomplete thing is a map for Bunker 2, does anyone know how many patrolling guards do walk through the green area? Same about blue area.

I found a map of B2 on Google and added some information about the patrolling guards:

http://s510.photobucket.com/user/PhazonPrime/media/Bunker2map_zpsfb54f9cf.gif.html?sort=3&o=0

I hope it's helpful. There is a small mistake though; There are 7 locked doors, not 5, but they're just the doors next to the other locked doors in the crate area.

Something that's always bothered me personally:

What's the exact reason/coding in the game that gives guards full access to almost every single door? Why can't guards open the bottom Depot door, or the roller door? Any insight into how these work would be fun to read; thanks!

Doors in GE have a flag that determines if they are "openable". This is different from a locked door, though an unopenable door can still say "This door is locked" when you try to open it.

A perfect example is the brown door closest to Natalya on Control when she's standing at the first computer. Initially, this door is unopenable, meaning nothing can open it, not even guards (instead they warp when you look away). However, the "I'm coming James" script temporarily changes the state of the flag, making the door openable. Same thing goes for the doors leading to the end, although their state is changed later on in the script.

I believe all openable doors in the game can be opened by guards.

Does anyone have any advice on how to kill the guard at the beginning of B2 in 1 slap? I mean I know to slap him in the back, but he faces you as you open the cell door so I can never get his back without stopping. Is a good stick required?

This is a good question, I am not sure exactly how it works but from what I found is you want to have maximum look-down and hit him as soon as possible.
You also need to run through the guard I think, so your slap sorta hits the middle of the guard?
If anyone has a better way of describing the first slap that would be awesome.

Assuming you're doing the new strat, you have to take a very tight angle leaving the cell with lots of lookdown. Timing the Z press just comes with feel.

I know it's off topic, just wanted to ask if we couldn't add other achievements for not so skilled players (like me ;-) ) like:

Every mission on 00 Agent under 8min.

Every mission on Perfect Agent under 8min.

Or a top 200 medal for both games.
(that would currently be under 3:07h in PD and 2:26h in Goldeneye.)

Or LTK/DLTK achievements like: complete 3, 5,10,15,all Levels on LTK and the same for DLTK... (for each game)

Or getting in the top 50 (points) of LTK/DLTK high scores.

Would be great,  Smiley so that not top 100 players could get some achievements too, beside 'double the fun' and 'not a noob'

I have a question about Runway. In the videos, people throw a grenade near the door so that they get a boost when they leave. I don't really understand the point though, as it is harder to open the door whilst trying to throw the grenade in the right place.

Wouldn't it be easier to pull the pin on the grenade shortly after you enter the building and let go once you exit. Surely that would be more consistent?

It's not difficult for me, but yea try that, sounds like it could work if you find it easier.. if you are going for just 23 then it's possible to get it without that hut boost btw if finding it difficult.

Time was untied when set.

Theres not much time to look all the way down leaving the hut for that to be consistent, but like Illu said that boost is kinda irrel for 23 anyway so Id just try to get it without it if you cant get it consistently

MYT, I recently dealt with the intricacies needed for 22 (1.2) (very boring target time btw ^^). The thing is, you want to adjust the perfect line to the plane immediately after the first boost so that you can start lookup boosting asap. Otherwise you will be short of time for the 3rd boost of the 2nd volley or won't get a drone/guard boost instead, which is the key difference between a very low 23 and a 22.
Long story short: That quick line adjustment would be much harder with your method. Also the common method is more convenient than accurate 4s counting every run.

Seen that way I agree with Gregor, but well... Counting seconds is pretty easy for me, so dunno really... I mean, I'm all the time counting seconds (music school, exams, speedrunning, speedcubing, etc.), so I don't have to even concentrate to count them. But yeah, the other argument seems quite right. So will you go for the Spanish untied, Adam? :nesquik:

Nope. Everytime I try the lookup grenade throws, I end up moving in a different direction. I think I will leave it at 23 for the time being, and move onto a different level!

Also, the counting isn't an issue for holding the grenade. I found that if you start cocking it just before you open the door, it is ready to be thrown by the time you reach the corner of the building outside.

EDIT: I didn't realise the GL guy can appear in the street before the minefield. I now see him almost every run - with a KF7 (edit 2: changed the guard's possession to a gun, rather than some finger lickingly good chicken)...... Ugh

As I want to get around 1:14 (maybe 1:13 :D ) on Streets Agent, it would still be useful to know if there are any tips or tricks that I may have missed from watching the video. I know you pretty much need the GL to save 1-2 seconds, and you need to watch the cutscenes to hopefully get a boost from the guard at the start - but is there anything else?

I've included a video of my 1:17 run, so any advice would be great. I think my strafing is alright (although I miss the body armour 90% of the time.....), but I may be wrong.

Thanks!

First of all, lol @ calling the KF7 a KFC. I've personally never seen a Streets guard with KFC.

Your strafing is kind of sloppy; You tend to go too wide or too narrow when you turn and then try to turn back towards where you want to go and you don't get very close to the corners. It looks as though you're using 1.1 control style and you've probably already been told, but 1.2 is better. You'll find the turning a lot easier and Streets is a good level to get used to it. For right now, I probably wouldn't worry about the GL guard and I'd try and get 1:15 with 1.2 and some tighter strafing.

I do use 1.2, but I guess I'm just a bit rubbish. DD told me that PAL is much worse on Streets, so maybe that is making things worse. Do you think 1:15 is still possible with tighter strafing and good luck?

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure where my weak strafing points are - apart from the beginning where my strafing is appalling until I pass the red car!

I do the same Wyst3r. I've tried experimenting different ways, and that seems to be the best way I can find. It makes throwing them on the move harder on some levels where you want to turn while you throw - like Jungle.

On Jungle I have to throw them all and explode them later when I don't have to worry about turning. Kinda makes it harder to destroy the guns though.

Use alien. It can be tricky at first but you'll get used to it pretty quick. So both A+B with right index.

I use my left thumb to detonate mines as well. It makes certain things like the 3 mine ending on Facility Agent really hard. I'll have to get used to alien.

MYT, yeah you should be able to get 1:15 with tighter strafing. It's mostly about learning the lines and getting a decent boost ratio.

Use alien. It can be tricky at first but you'll get used to it pretty quick. So both A+B with right index.

Oh that actually works? I did try that a bit but it seemed wierd so i didn't spend much time on it. Guess i'll have to try again :)

What's alien?

I have my right hand over the right side of the controller palm down.
My thumb grips on the underside of the controller, under the AB buttons.
My pointer finger presses A, B, and Start when necessary.
My middle finger is on C-Left duty, sometimes C-Down.
My Ring finger is primarily C-up, but can also move to R button and sometimes C-Right.
My pinky is dedicated C-Right.

To detonate mines, I slam my index finger across A and B at the same time. This allows me to maintain strafe.
To backstrafe to the left, my middle finger performs the same action across the C-Left and C-Down buttons.
Backstrafing right is same as left strafing, except middle and ring fingers moved across to C-Down and C-Right respectively.

That sounds pretty alien to me yeah? :D

Sounds like the keyboard method^^

Alien is when you use right thumb for C-buttons and bend your index finger above the thumb to reach the A/B buttons.

Oh, I do that sometimes too but only in very specific situations.

I use my first finger for C-Left, middle finger for C-Up and C-Down, third finger for C-Right and thumb for A and B. I find it quite easy for doing stuff like detonating mines.

I can't even make up a method of holding a controller that is more awkward than Mouser's method lol.

Wow, I remember trying something close to Mouser's method long time ago, just to test my best way to take the controller, it was impossible to use for me XD. I use the alien method, using index finger for both A+B. If you have the problem of it changing of weapon instead of detonate, you can hold B and then press A, instead of them both at same time. If my left thumb isn't being used (S2 WR strat failed attempts), I use it for A+B sometimes.
Let A be a pizza of radius z and height a. Its volume is V_A = pi·(z^2)·a = pizza.
