LOL @ not using your thumb and using your PINKY!  :D That's probably the weirdest holding method ever.

I just use my right thumb + right index for everything (the downside is that I lose a ton of time when crouching/un-crouching). The remaining 3 right-hand fingers are only used for grip.

How many bullets are you supposed to shoot at the door leading into the black room on Aztec SA?

Do the guards on the far end of the black room react randomly, or is it based upon how many bullets you fire before you enter?

one burst (3 shots) gets the first 2 guards
two bursts (6 shots) can attract the far guards depending on how close you were to the door when you started firing, closer is better if you want them to lure out, downside to this is the mainframe guy tends to run out a bit more too.

I guess it's just more convenient when you don't want to adjust your strafeline at all and keep looking down. Ofc you can PP7 him without much ado, if you prefer.

So, my next target is Depot Agent. I plug in my controller, set up to 2.4 and ...... what the heck? Using both simultaneously is a bit of a nightmare. Do you need to use cruise control on Depot? I tried doing that (which makes things easier as I can put down the controller after the cutscene shooting and the train shot, making it easier to open doors) but navigating the building is really tough. That 180 degree turn to get on the stairs doesn't seem possible.##

Any general pointers on how to play depot with 2.x would be great. I want to get 0:26 on it!

Do NOT use fancy 2.x stuff for your first 26, lol. That's like restarting for GL spawns for Streets 1:16 -> absurd! ;)

26 is a bit annoying on PAL btw because the big roller door is slower and you need a really fast guard reaction to not lose any time there. Get 27 first (which is A LOT easier) and see if you can dupe it easily and if you can get 26 quitouts a bit after the stairs.

i can attest to this
i also tried out the 25 strat when going for 26, and even though i was able to navigate the hut i never got the guard boost and the train shot is just hell.

Is PAL 0:26 do-able though without 2.x? I got the guard boost both times I tried, and it didn't seem like the train shot was that much harder than normal - with cruise control. I will try for 0:27 first but - like with my Streets 1:15 - I know I will keep on playing until I save that extra second. If I have to use 2.x for 0:26, I may as well get used to it.

Besides, I will probably do Depot SA afterwards - and that pretty much requires 2.x!

Yes, some people have done it but you will need a really good run to get it. It took me 10 hours to get mine on PAL.

^ PAL should be fine for depot agent since the guards open the roller doors. All the other doors should be similar, if not the same speed. I dont see how 26 on PAL is harder than ntsc.

Here are some:

http://rankings.the-elite.net/~Bonzo/time/12466

http://rankings.the-elite.net/~Matthijs/time/12583
http://rankings.the-elite.net/~OHMSS/time/61292

As I said, I think it's more likely to get a little stuck on the roller door. At least that was very much my impression when getting and duping it, my fast-enough rate was somewhere in the 1/20s, lol. Never heard a NTSC-dude complaining about that. But that obviously doesn't matter when the guards are fast enough. Don't worry too much about the differences, Henrik's recent WRs show that it's mostly negligible slipslop.

OK, cool. I will try and do it without 2.4. I thought it might be easier with the speed start advantage and the potential boost.

Hopefully I can learn how to actually pull off the train shot sooner rather than later!

Thanks

I think you need a more precise train shot on PAL for the guards to react, but other than that I don't believe it's a difference speed wise (except the doors which doesn't matter with a successful shot on Agent).... ?

26 on pal is Deginitely tighter, i don't fully understand why but somehow it is. I remember when I got my. NTSC cart and tested out depot, had some fucked run which was 26, which would have had No chance at 26 if it were pal... the whole level lags more like statue is my guy feeling, or the doors in the hut are slower, something is definitely slower though

Henrik had huge trouble getting 25 on PAL and I suspect he would have had it in 10 hours or less on NTSC

but even on NTSC the trainshot reaction is godawful

An hour before my 25, i had a 26 run which seemed like a perfect run. I've watched the video many times (i'll upload it along with my other vids this week), comparing it with my 25, and it almost looks better actually. My only conclusion is that 25 is REALLY tight, and my 25 run was probably extremely high.

Since most NTSC players have said 25 was cake, i can only assume there must be some difference, even though it's definately not related to doors being slower (I timed the hut doors on emulator, they were equal). Either that or i just suck at Depot :kappa:

I also have another question (well 2) relating to Train, as I may attempt that before (just to get a sub 1:30 time - nothing special, just something less crummy than my current awful time).

I watched Goose's video and he recommended using the RCP "for consistency" for n00b players. In what ways is it consistent? Is it consistent for getting a decent time (even though it may be slower than a good luck watch run), or consistency for survival, or something else?

Also, I plan to laser the lock without rescuing Natalya, like on the WR vids. I know it won't save much time, but it will help me get a good pace on the locks. I assume that all you need to do is simply escape before the execution is timed for? Is this window tight, or is it something a mediocre player like myself can reasonably achieve?

I'm hoping to knock out a reasonable Train time quite quickly - either some time tonight or tomorrow morning :)

The locks are easier the more guards you kill.  This is because killing lots of guards reduces lag, the laser is faster, the movement from lock to lock is more smooth, etc.  It's very easy to kill tons of guards with the RC-P90 while it's hard to kill many with the laser.

Even with a fast laser, you still need really good locks to beat Ouromov killing Natalya.  Have you tried it yet?  Did you see "Objective B: FAILED" come on screen?  If yes, then the amount of time between that message and when the level faded out is how much faster you need to finish the locks.

Something like 1:20 is very easy with RC-P90 and killing Ouromov.  Something like 1:15 should be doable from there without the RC-P90.  There is no need to start skipping Ouromov until you are going for sub 1:10, really; and I doubt anyone's locks are good enough to even do it until they get to that point.

Ah ok, thanks. To be honest, the only times I have tried the locks is for general completion (which is why my times are so rubbish) and not for running. I tried doing it once and skipping the mov, but the objective failed. I figured that once I improved my locks, I might be able to do the skip.

If it is a tight window, then I won't bother. My main incentive to do so is that I know I would have good locks if I managed the skip. I'll just count instead. If I aim for 1:21, which is pointed, how long should I spend (maximum) on the locks? I am on PAL, which apparently is better on train.

25 was cake but it still needed a boost and a solid run. Just because its cake for a few people dont mean x system is worse just because it takes you longer.  :kappa:

PAL might be slightly laggier though. Maybe thats why its possible to warp the roller door without turbo on PAL but on ntsc it seems like it is impossible?

on PAL it seems just as impossible. I tried for like a few hours (though my memory on how long it took is bad) with tons of guards around (all pretty much on same 1 single run) to get through once. NTSC can also have tons of guards around afaik. comparing the lag under those circumstances is meaningless though, unless we can generate them while maintaining WR speed.

I have a doubt about Depot Agent, for those who got 26 PAL 1.2. What's faster after the TS off these cases?:
- You go to the building, open the door, change to right strafe slightly as you enter the door and change back to left strafe until the stairs.
- You go to the building, open the door, enter, and reach the stairs all in left strafe.

Thanks in advance.

Help! :kappa:

I have been trying for hours to get Depot A 00:27 (on PAL) and I get 00:28 all of the time. It is bad enough that the train shot consistently trolls me (late reactions or warping), but it is really frustrating when I get a successful train shot and still get 00:28!

I am using 1.2, as per the advice above, so I don't get the benefit of the head-start and the boost. However, that is only 0.6 seconds so I am still wasting almost 2 seconds somehow. Any tips would be appreciated - my video is below. That isn't my best run, but is simply the last one I got before I decided to ask for help :)

The problem is in your hut. Use lookdown as you enter the door after the trainshot, and as you leave the door at the top of the stairs you want to be pushing your look all the way to the right to move into left strafe for the rest of the level.
Ideally you should be in complete left strafe starting from the top of the first stairs until the end of the level.

Otherwise using lookdown through the end of the level should completely solve your dilemma.

Another analysis please! Sorry for being such a n00b, but I am still a n00b at running GE. :kappa:

There are many things wrong with this run, but the main thing I would like a hand with is the mine throw for the turret room. I have watched Ill's great tutorial vid, which has helped with the last throw - but I can't to ever pull it off. I usually end up blowing the turret, meaning I can run in and blow it up during Nat's escape, but it still wastes a lot of time.

Also, can you advise on any other big time wasting I am doing. I want sub 4:20, ideally sub 4:13 so tiny timesaves with Natalya aren't a massive concern at the moment. I know about messing up the stairs after the mine boost, but is there anything else that stands out?

detonating the mine too early, throw looked good though. After throwing it turn around and run towards the table when you hit the table, detonate :)

I still find that the mine lands on the wall before, or it disappears entirely. Even when I wait until I reach the middle of the main control room. Is there a marginally slower, yet more consistent method I can try?

you should prob just do the old strat for the type of time your going for. the new strat is really pointlessly hard to do for the type of pr your going for imo.

^ Get up close and personal with all the mainframes, no need to try a hard strat where you're at now. Focus on getting more aggressive in general (first room) and tighter strafe lines and you should be able to get under 4:15.

Don't stop for the first three guards, just run at them and shoot. Stop when you get around the corner to shoot guards 4 & 5, then run at the 6th guard and carry on back to the elevator. There's no need to throw 2 mines at the glass on Agent, just throw one and if you don't get the mainframe you can get it during the protect. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I'm pretty sure that you're not supposed to turn left after meeting up with Nat. I think I heard the door opening, which wasted time. Just wait until she comes around the corner, then turn left to get the mainframe. Those things alone ought to get sub-4:20. A cleaner run with tighter strafing ought to get you close to your 4:13 goal. Good luck.

I'm having a couple doubts in Control, hope someone answers them.
1) Ending: I only want something consistent, not something super fast, so when do I have to start counting seconds and how many? I mean, people is saying stuff around 17 seconds, but from when? Nat has to touch the stair or she has to be already above them? Counting seconds is not a problem to me, but I need to know from when and how many seconds...
2) Is there a reason for failing the drone's mine sometimes and hiting it sometimes? My mine throws seem always the same to me, but I fail a lot, it seems...

I think that's all for now. Thanks in advance.

How does Henrik do the Surface 2 door trick? Warping on PAL is so troll; his way seems better for a fast exit but I cannot work out how he does it.

Well read his posts, that info should be as accurate as it gets. Then watch his and Karl's vid 10 times and try it 100 times. From what I remember you have to press B at the lowest point of Bond's auto-crouching from landing on the snow hill, you have to develop a feeling. Also I doubt the version difference is relevant for any target time but 48.

Which posts? I remember him mentioning that is made his runs more consistent, but never heard an explanation. I have watched his video many times and all I can see is that it seems to happen when he is at the side of the door

I am either so fucking washed it's not funny

or

I don't understand anything about control agent

a) why does Natalya sometimes not open the first door when doing the slap method
b) why do I go from 357 pace to 400+ pace from picking up the mines to getting to nat again
OR why does she seem to come out of the room so slowly??
like I feel like I wait for her so much longer than the vids I watch

the mine throws are pretty cake though thank god, I didn't realise how fast you have to be to take out the far one but it's okay.

C)( I think) how on earth do you time the ending!!! from watching goose I gathered he added 18 seconds to when nat hits the stairs but wtf this level makes no sense I might be totally wrong

please any advice would be sweet- I don't have internet back so can't watch vids / tutorial vids at home - just able to check the boards. :)

a) You must have looked up too early, when her message dissapears start slapping 6 times pretty much but yea it's like 6 slaps and .3 .5 possibly if one wants to be totally accurate,(reaction time should account for this though unless you react really fast after 6th slap, wait at least until you hear the 6th slap sound) you should get the feel for it after awhile.

b) When  you get Nat to protect never look in her direction until you are sure she's past the door (she needs to warp the door she's behind) so backstrafe back up and maybe even stand up there facing right a bit for like 1 sec, if you look left too fast you might randomly lose a bit of time even if she warped the door. When you see Nat has come round the corner there's no way she could be slow now if you just keep looking at her until she's down the spiral stairs, wait until she's down the spiral stairs though for consistent fast Nats.

I'm not sure if she can still be randomly slow sometimes but if doing all this correct should give you very good chances of fast Nats.

c) I have a timer running, timing is 18 flat from when she turns onto stairs btw (not when she touches stairs) this should be more consistent than timing by messages so I would recommend this. Also assuming you don't open the door for her you wanna turn away really fast right when she turns (or even before) onto the stairs, or she might not warp the door, wait near the stairs and get quickly away from the protect area right when she turns.

edit: 18sec flat ending from when she turns UP TO WHEN FADE BEGINS, I've had 17.8 twice I think and some 17.9 but yea kinda rare I guess, might wanna make it 18.2 if you really don't wanna risk it, but it's hard to time it down to the tenths anyways heh.

Had a dream i got Control Agent 2:48. I killed a non hat guard that broke the glass and was about to shoot Nat. He dropped some kind of keycard and Nat went to pick it up, went to the computer again shortly and then left.

It's gonna happen. Believe.

I waited till A was up, so 2:47 is possible :nesquik:

Why do bad things happen to good people? Like, getting the worst guard animation in the hut on cradle OOA?
