HENRIK. Is there any chance you could shed some light on the gate guard on dam? What makes him open the door fast/slow?

Hi, I'm wondering if Goldeneye speedrunning is a lot less gimmicky overall than Perfect Dark?

I've been really enjoying speedrunning Perfect Dark, but I'm a little turned off from the high amount of technical skips, heavy pausing, pushing NPCs, etc. Goldeneye from what I've seen in the WRs is a lot "cleaner" gameplay. There's definitely a lot of luck, but I'm fine with that. Can I get some opinions from players of both, because I'm really interested in picking this game up!

my thoughts exactly, I have always loved PD as a game but GE is a better speed game for me because of its simplicity

give it a go!

Yeah, Luke is spot on. I used to run PD (to varying degrees of success), but it feels like the levels tend to get in the way a bit of the running. GE is built for speed (apart from Control defence) so GE is better to run - even though PD is the superior overall game. I would say IMO, but I think that is a pretty objective fact because of reasons.

PD is awesome and not bad at all to speedrun, i like the game casually more than GE, but GE is superior for speedrunning.

PD is a fine game if you avoid the dumb levels (pretty much every time I have a good time on is fun, lol, although a few others are good like maian sos , war etc). But I would tend to agree that PD is a worse game for speedrunning simply because of how much more tedious it is (SO much time waiting cinemas, ugh)

Shoot a grenade just behind the drone immediately after the ammo dump shot. Don't look away from it until you see the shot too I guess.

Is there a way to improve consistency for a fast Trev on Facility? I only ever seem to get a fast Trev when I mess up my run. Every decent run seems to get the worst trev. Is that just my shitty RNG, or can you affect the FT?

People have different theories on looking angles and stuff to AFFECT the gT, watch videos of Ace and Clemens and copy the procedures if interested. Imo your best bet would be learning the easy bT strat (CLICK), especially on SA/00A where Doak is troll enough. A bT loses less than a second with proper handling and I doubt that's a big deal on your current level of play.

Ah ok, I think I will try the bT strat then for whenever it trolls me. I just find that with the bT he takes ages to say his first line.

I guess the strafe in front of him triggers it earlier.

Thanks

I finally got Goldeneye, so I have a bunch of noob questions before I get started! 1) Does Screen type (Full, Wide, Cinema) matter at all such as lag reduction or anything? 2) Same thing with ratio (Normal, 16:9)? 3) How much time does each pause and unpause take? 4) What are the details on performing door and ladder warps? Thanks!

1) As far as I am aware, there is no difference in lag. Widescreen does help with some of the blind corners (such as streets though), as I believe your range of vision is slightly better.
2) No benefit. I just leave it on default.
3) 2 seconds each way, more or less. Although subsequent pauses are faster. Really you should only pause if absolutely necessary.
4) Lag. Changing weapons causes the warp, but looking up generally helps. Sometimes (like in Frigate), shooting also helps create the necessary lag. Usually shooting isn't necessary though.

I just wanted to mention that with your screen setting, it's much more important to play around and find your favorite setting, whatever helps you get the best times. cinema looks derp so I would try to avoid that one but ace plays wide, boss, Clem and myself are full screen players. 16:9 lags more in PD but is probably fine in GE but it's a goose thing

-- Aztec Agent --

Why does the guard on the far, upper left side of the black room not always open the mainframe door?

Is there a limit to how many bullets you should fire once you pass the mainframe door like there is on SA?

Why am I constantly getting raped by a laser guard just as I'm about to enter the drone room at the end?

Thanks.

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I was mucking around on caverns and had a thought (I couldn't find it anywhere else on the forums)
In the room after the spiral ramp, there are 3 crates next to the centre pillar, could they be used for boosts (Either consistency or as extras) similar to the one recently used on archives?

It's possible but kinda tricky i guess (TAS run uses it btw). I experimented a bit with it recently on Agent but it doesn't work too well with 2.2 control style (unless you can stop strafing for a while and just run forward, which my setup didn't allow for).

Chuya: When Natalya completes her objective she will start to run to the stairs on the right. When she TURNS to run up the stairs start timing. Enter the lift at the end of level exactly 18 seconds after she TURNS to go up the stairs.

Yes Chuya Natalya's time to protect is the same in all versions. JP NTSC for Secret Agent and 00 Agent is the best. 3:59 on Agent can be done on JP NTSC too.

I seem to have skipped Natalya's "I did it!" message with an immediate "Get back to the surface" message here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpI-aiIhFf4&t=4m36s

Does this save any time or is it just an aesthetic thing?

This is quite common actually. Not sure what causes it, but the developers seemed to predict it, since they added the "Obj B Complete" line of code to BOTH messages.

The game simply fails to recognize that it's time for the first message to be shown, and therefor doesn't show it. However, this doesn't speed up the next messages or Natalya's escape at all.

Who has an explanation for this late console activation by Trev? I played a lot of Cradle but this is a complete mystery to me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cptbq0Op5eQ
Did the activation happen because he reached the second spot without me being around?

Btw: When you cut the cinema immediately and run into the hut early but don't shoot the console, Trev goes into the other hut and activates the timer there. Never knew that until recently.

This is possible with the spawned guards on Control as well (maybe other levels too? I'm not sure). Noticed this when i tried to create a human shield for Natalya by luring lots of guards to stand around her during protection :nesquik:

These questions go to anyone who can +/- easily get Streets 1:57s or so on SA/00A. Please, someone answer me:

1) How do you time the Valentin's leaving? Is there a known time to be with him during his last sentence before leaving him (like 2 secs, 2 and a half or whatever)?
2) Some WR holders lure Val out the building. Some others, like Taka, don't do it. How faster is luring him out?
3) Some people use all the time 1.2 and some others switch from 2.x to 1.2. Is 2.x faster for the beginning? If so, how much? I've been told it gives you an initiall boost (you start with max speed) or something like that before...
4) If 2.x is recommended, what's the best way to CC it? Options I've thought of are CCing left and pressing up, CCing down and pressing right and CCing down/left and pressing up/right.

Thanks in advance.
Let A be a pizza of radius z and height a. Its volume is V_A = pi·(z^2)·a = pizza.
