Well the draw was made and it has a nice fixture for us and the americans (not that many may care). Anyway here are the groups for the World Cup in June 2010...

Group A: South Africa, Mexico, Uruguay, France
Group B: Argentina, Nigeria, South Korea, Greece
Group C: England, United States, Algeria, Slovenia
Group D: Germany, Australia, Serbia, Ghana
Group E: Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, Cameroon
Group F: Italy, Paraguay, New Zealand, Slovakia
Group G: Brazil, North Korea, Ivory Coast, Portugal
Group H: Spain, Switzerland, Honduras, Chile

England vs USA is the first match of the only group which is really important to most users of this site. I'll post my predictions in a moment.

Meh France ain't so good as they used to be, but maybe they could suprise this next year.

A: Mexico and South Africa
B: Argentina and South Korea
C: England and Slovenia
D: Germany and Ghana
E: Denmark and Holland
F: Italy all the way and Slovakia
G: Brazil and Portugal
H: Spain and Switzerland

Those are some pretty easy ones this year, but group A and E are slightely harder. But anyway, i KNOW i'm going to be wrong by some or many of them because there's always underdogs each year that suprises. I hope at least 2 African Teams goes on though and i really really hope an African team can take the title home 2010 (If Denmark screws up) I love the Africans play. Very fast playing and they usually have a lot of good sprinters and a lot of them has probably played a lot on sand as children with is much harder haha

I'll try to predict who wins the semifinals and finals also, when that time comes...

Yeah apologies, pick the two teams you think will advance from the group. There will be an actual results one closer to the time as with the last world cup.

a lot of people said the group of death is G, personally I think it's B. Those are all solid teams.

Pure bullshit that France gets the South Africa Group. There was even a suggestion that FIFA would do that in advance because France was upset they weren't a seed (despite having to cheat to even get in the world cup). They basically predicted these groups before (england, USA same group and others before the draw even happened) I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was fixed.

but anyway
A) Uruguay wins France advances
Probably the most even group. France bitched about not getting seeded and really you can argue that they should be the seed here. I think they'll advance but I don't think they'll win. I think Uruguay's the favorite actually and nobody else even has them advancing lol.
B) Argentina wins, South Korea advances. This could be the group of death 2 with Argentina really being the struggling team right now out of this group imo but I can't figure out how they shouldn't advance despite really liking Nigeria (and Greece isn't a slouch) I think the Koreans are vastly underrated (FIFA's rankings have always been hilarious and I think they're a bit wrong here as well)
C) England wins, and Algeria advances. Not many groups I would've even taken the USA to advance and they got the best group possible really with Algeria/Slovenia being weak. That said the USA always finds a way to lose to someone they shouldn't so I'll take Algeria as a result. Either way the D) winner will be pretty stoked as long as England does what they're supposed to. I love how everyone was so happy being in this group despite that England really should clobber the crap out of us just because our advance odds are pretty good.
D) Germany wins, Austrailia advances. I really like Ghana just not in this group. At least half of the other groups I would've picked them to advance.
E) Netherlands wins, Cameroon advances. Seems easy.
F) Italy wins, and uh ok, I take this back I don't like any of these other teams at all. let's just go with Slovakia
G) supposed group of death. Brazil wins and Ivory Coast advances. Actually I take that back, that was an easy prediction.
H) Spain wins, the Swiss advance.

Uruguay beats South Korea
Argentina beats France
England beats England's convicts
Germany beats Algeria
Italy beats Cameroon
Netherlands beats Slovakia
Brazil beats Switzerland
Ivory Coast beats Spain

Uruguay beats Argentina
England beats Germany
Italy beats Netherlands
Brazil beats Ivory Coast

and
Italy repeats and defeats England in the final.

Some analysis/not really analysis more like some dude who doesn't know what he's talking about/facts of the World Cup groups.

Group A

France is the clear cut favorite to win the group at +100 but the other four squads currently almost all have exact same lines in the +440 range.  I find this weird because France had trouble merely qualifying for the World Cup, and South Africa got a bye.  Uruguay is a soccer nation (well so is France, but again, they had trouble qualifying) so Uruguay not being a favorite over South Africa and Mexico to advance is interesting.  Then again, in '02 France and Uruguay were in the same group and failed to advance due to soccer powerhouses Denmark and Senegal so who knows.

Group B

Argentina is the clear cut favorite at nearly -200 to win.  Nigeria is a modest favorite over Greece to advance, but the Greeks still give lower paying odds than South Korea.  This is bizarre to me because we all know Greece's Euro 2004 win was a complete fluke, and South Korea went all the way to the Bronze medal game in 2002.  I don't know enough about Nigeria to say whether they should be ahead of South Korea here but I'll trust the bookies.

Group C

England are the favorite to win at -250 currently and U.S.A. are the clear favorite to place second and advance.  Not much interesting here.

Group D

Germany are the favorite at +100 which is logical but Serbia and Ghana are both in a near deadlock to advance in the +360 range to win outright.  Australia is much further behind at +650 to win.  I guess Serbia and Ghana are unknown to non soccer people (read; everyone in Anglo-America) but this very well could be the group of death.

Meh, this is boring now.  I'll post the other 4 later maybe.

If you can't tell already my preds are cookie cutters to what the bookmakers odds are.

Group A: Mexigo, Uruguay
Group B: Argentina, Nigeria
Group C: England, United States
Group D: Germany, Ghana
Group E: Netherlands, Japan
Group F: Italy, Paraguay
Group G: Brazil, Portugal
Group H: Spain, Switzerland

The hardest groups are Brazil's and France's, but you can't call those "groups of death". France just got fucking lucky (or it was manipulated) ending up on the only group with a weak group head (I don't know how you guys call that, the main team of the group). But I'm pissed at the way they classified so I'm really supporting for France not classifiying on the group stage (considering Brazil don't get in trouble, which is very likely to happen).

Some likely teams to advance that I didn't list are Cameroon and Australia. The first one has lost it's bright since 1994, and won't do shit, Japan gets their place. Australia just sucks so much that I think Ghana will do it tightly. Ivory Coast has a semi-decent team but that won't be enough to beat Portugal with Ronaldo, Deco. Basically Portugal has at least decent players on all positions, including awesome ones like Ronaldo, Deco, Maniche, while Ivory Coast has like 5 or 6 good players but the rest of the team is really bad. Drogba is a monster but won't be able to do a thing (just like the classic examples of that: Schevchenko, Ibrahimovic and others). The England team is awesome as always, but again, I can't imagine them going too far.

Brazil's team really worked well, and I think they will get far this time. It's not even close to the star team that was in 2006.. there are many younger players, and the ones that are there really deserved their place, so they won't be acomodated, etc. I can say that because we know really well all the players, and basically there's no big doubts of who should be on the team. They play simple, don't have big stars (apart from Kaka, Robinho, Julio Cesar), so I'm very confident

That's the best way to play it when placing even money.ego bets like we are here.

An interesting thing to note I found is that the 3rd favourite outside the top 10 nations is "other".

ie. the other 22 nations combined are more likely to win than England, Argentina, Italy, Germany, Holland, France, Ivory Coast and Porugal are individually. (the best of them being Chile).

Just shows you can't get annoyed when your country dosen't win - no matter how good they are.

Brazil's lineup is actually preety good, even though some good players were left out (Adriano is out, Ronaldinho is on that other list of players that might be called if someone gets injuried). I'm really confident this time, it's the opposite from 2006. We have the best defense + the best goalkeeper imo, a solid midfield and an efficient offense. Let's see! Argentina has a preety good team, the best on the world in terms of skill imo, even though it's not very well organized. Germany and Italy are very solid teams, England always fails for some reason and I put Spain and France at the same level, they might be a good surprise. Yeah Spain won the Euro playing a beautiful soccer, but it's been like that for years... everybody takes an eye on them but in the end Spain ends up being just a regular team on the WC.

Making preds on this WC is going to be quite hard I'll write one later

It's hard to predict this year(well as usual i guess), Usually at least 1 good team falls off early and i bet the africans will be taking their place.

If i were to pick a winner?...Brazil or Germany

Can you please post the details of that 2006 one?  Either make a new thread or edit the OP and also post the rules in your next post so we can actually make preds.

This is for my personal reference;

08E Spain - Germany - Russia Turkey
06W Italy - France - Germany - Portugal
04E Greece - Portugal - Netherlands CzechRep
02W Brazil - Germany - Turkey - South Korea
00E France - Italy - Portugal Netherlands
98W France - Brazil - Croatia - Netherlands
96E Germany - CzechRep - France England
94W Brazil - Italy - Sweden Bulgaria
Like i said Goose, this isn't going to properly start until Saturday. I will then have the rules etc as we will be making preds on each match every day, there will be plenty of time to make preds. In the meantime by all means post how you think the groups will go. I will find the 2006 one and post tonight before i go to bed!
