Relive the 2007 Playoffs: http://perfectdarkelite.yuku.com?topic=13381

The regular season has just drawn to a close- the Broncos have completed their epic collapse, the Vikings halted their tailspin just in time, and a ton of teams come limping into the big dance after giving zero effort in Week 17.  The end result of one of the wildest playoffs runs in history (at least on the AFC side)?  Not one, not two, but three rematches of games we just saw only hours ago.  And two of the three don't even chance venues!

But enough chit chat, it's time to predict the Wild Card weekend of the 2009 NFL Playoffs

AFC
5. Jets (9-7)
at
4. Bengals (10-6)

6. Ravens (9-7)
at
3. Patriots (10-6)

NFC
6. Eagles (11-5)
at
3. Cowboys (11-5)

5. Packers (11-5)
at
4. Cardinals (10-4)

Remember, we pick rounds one at a time (because there's no set bracket for the NFL), and our scoring system goes 1-2-3-4 from round to round.

Good luck, NFL pickers!

Youse - Packers > Chargers

* looking very good.  VERY.  although my standard "Chargers/Saints" pick would have looked pretty slick as well...

Third - Saints > Patriots
* quite possible indeed, good work Third.

wiff - Broncos > Lions
* sorry, dying of laughter over here

Jimbo - Packers > Patriots
* MAN, Jim could end up looking smart

Matt8k - Colts > Packers

Jimbo has made 2 bets that I'm pretty sure he can't luckbox out of...

Charles Woodson will win Defensive Player of the Year Award - Jimbo says YES, $100 to QB's $115

No? I thought the Pats were in the 4/5 game, so if the Bengals (3) win, they'll play Chargers (2) and Colts (1) get the Pats/Ravens winner?

Ngamer Says...

Saturday, 4:30 EST - Jets @ Bengals
Nationwide: 60% picking a Bengals win

Ugh, I hate both of these teams sooo much. Really wish the seedings would have worked out differently, so I could have picked the Pats and Ravens to thump these chumps. The Bengals have frankly not looked like a playoff team in over two months- with Chris Henry gone, everyone realizes they only have to double team Ocho in order to grind this offense to a halt. Their defense isn't so bad, but I much prefer the way the Jets D has been playing recently, and New York has also proven they can at least run the ball effectively. Sure, Cincinnati has some intangibles on their side (home field in front of playoff-desperate fans, two recent deaths, playing against one of the worst quarterbacks to make the playoffs in recent history), and the end result will certainly be much closer than W17, but I still like the Jets to keep this Bengals offense in check while eating up clock on their own possessions.

Give me the Jets to sneak by in a low-scoring, grind it out, not particularly well played snoozefest. Fortunately this should be the only dull game of the weekend.

Saturday, 8pm EST - Eagles @ Cowboys
Nationwide: 53% picking a Cowboys win

I've been a Cowboys non-believer all season long... but even I had to admit that the Saints game made me do a double take. And honestly, they've been playing some really solid ball since then. I was positive the Eagles would come into W17 all fired up and smash them right in the mouth, but these Cowboys again surprised me by not collapsing under pressure, and now I just don't know what to think. I still have plenty of respect for Philly and I'm sure McNabb plays better this time around and they make a real game of it, but sorry, just can't shake off a 24 point defeat in such a crucial situation so easily.

Give me the Cowboys in a high scoring, exciting affair that comes right down to a McNabb pick in the final 4 minutes.

Sunday, 1pm EST - Ravens @ Patriots
Nationwide: 52% picking a Patriots win

All season I kept expecting the real Patriots to finally show up and kick off one of their classic momentum changing playoff runs, but it never really happened. Now every rib in Brady's body is broken and they've lost a huge chunk of their offense in Welker... and yet I still find myself having a very difficult time picking against them. The Ravens are a solid solid team that would easily have been right there for a first round bye had they not kept beating themselves every other week. And I do love the way their running game has been coming along. But, January in Foxborough, and with some of the mistakes Flacco has been making the second half of this season- bah, can't quite pull the trigger on this upset.

Give me the Patriots in a hard fought, entertaining slugfest that includes a winning 4th quarter TD drive by Brady, followed by a final possession Flacco INT.

Sunday, 4:40 EST - Packers @ Cardinals
Nationwide: 70% picking a Packers win

We blew out their starters in the pre-season, we blew out their starters in W17, the defense has been coming around and we're playing our best football of the year right now. While the Cards have been wildly inconsistent this year, limped into the playoffs thanks to the weakest division in football, and can't even manage to keep their stadium from filling with over 40% Packers fans. I'm very confident about Green Bay's chances in this one. ...trouble is, I get the feeling that the Packers themselves are extremely confident as well. That would normally be a good thing, but now its almost to the point where this could become a trap game, with us getting caught looking forward to the Saints instead of taking care of the task at hand.

Give me the Packers, but in a pretty wild affair featuring plenty of long bombs and more than its fair share of turnovers. I'm not seeing this one come down to the final drive, but it wouldn't surprise me if the game is still in question deep into the 4th quarter.

Jimbo has made 2 bets that I'm pretty sure he can't luckbox out   of...

Charles Woodson will win Defensive Player of the Year Award - Jimbo says YES,   $100 to QB's $115

Charles Woodson will win Defensive Player of the Year Award - Jimbo says YES, $25   to Come's $35

Chalk up $135 for Jimbo! (I gave QB a   discount on his bet thanks to all the driving he did for us in Florida) Don't call me a luckbox either, this bet was a lock since October!

GoldenJimbo007 (4:24:00 PM): There's my DPOTY!
COME as u r337 (4:24:17 PM): pretty unlikely that he wins it Jim

COME as u r337 (4:24:36 PM): Darelle Revis
COME as u r337 (4:24:47 PM): Jared Allen

GoldenJimbo007 (4:24:55 PM): Showing your n00bness!
GoldenJimbo007 (4:25:01 PM): Always a naysayer, Woodson by a mile
COME as u r337 (4:25:24 PM): Pretty sure he's not even in the discussion
GoldenJimbo007 (4:25:33 PM): OK I can only take so much stupid!
Rshepherd1000 (4:27:34 PM): allen prob wins i guess
COME as u r337 (4:27:58 PM): Agreed, it's between Revis/Allen right now
COME as u r337 (4:28:54 PM): I'm not sure Woodson will get more votes than Sharper tbh
GoldenJimbo007 (4:29:26 PM): wtf I'll bet money Woodson wins it
GoldenJimbo007 (4:31:18 PM): 9 INTs, 3 TDs, 3 forced fumbles, under 20 points scored against?
COME as u r337 (4:31:57 PM): ready to book that if you want
COME as u r337 (4:32:03 PM): I do feel bad taking your money though

CieloAzor (11:40:45 PM): how about you take +115, tubby
CieloAzor (11:41:01 PM): it sounded like you were offering even money a minute ago
GoldenJimbo007 (11:41:38 PM): Deal!
CieloAzor (11:41:43 PM): deal
GoldenJimbo007 (11:41:46 PM): $100 to your $115
GoldenJimbo007 (11:41:50 PM): *shakes hand*
CieloAzor (11:42:29 PM): *shakes*
GoldenJimbo007 (11:43:06 PM): Why in the WORLD would you take that bet?
CieloAzor (11:43:41 PM): Woodson can't hold Revis's jock
CieloAzor (11:43:51 PM): and CBs never win anyway
GoldenJimbo007 (11:44:29 PM): 3 time NFC defensive player of the month, I'll have you know
GoldenJimbo007 (11:47:35 PM): http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8158c4fd&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true
GoldenJimbo007 (11:47:40 PM): QB's such a rookie
COME as u r337 (11:47:44 PM): Jim I'll take it at lower stakes
GoldenJimbo007 (11:47:55 PM): $100's good enough for me
COME as u r337 (11:48:40 PM): I'll give you better odds at lower stakes
COME as u r337 (11:48:45 PM): your $25 to my $35
GoldenJimbo007 (11:48:54 PM): Fine!
GoldenJimbo007 (11:48:55 PM): Deal
COME as u r337 (11:48:58 PM): done
GoldenJimbo007 (11:49:07 PM): You guys are out of your mind!
COME as u r337 (11:49:11 PM): will note these in the NFL topic
Im Ngamer (11:50:54 PM): are you guys nuts?  Woodson's defensive MVP for sure
GoldenJimbo007 (11:51:20 PM): Woodson, Sharper, then Revis
CieloAzor (11:51:45 PM): Revis is on a whole 'nother level right now
COME as u r337 (11:51:51 PM): Probably Revis, Allen, Woodson/Sharper
COME as u r337 (11:52:00 PM): Lewis will get his normal votes too
CieloAzor (11:52:08 PM): I might go as far as to say that Revis is the best player in the league right now
COME as u r337 (11:59:49 PM): a CB hasn't won since 1994..
Im Ngamer (11:59:53 PM): okay Jim, you're right, but there's no need to be rude
COME as u r337 (12:00:02 AM): and Revis is a 334234234234234234 times better CB than Woodson
GoldenJimbo007 (12:00:05 AM): Woodson plays *everything*
COME as u r337 (12:00:11 AM): I still think Allen is the favorite

Eh, I knew Woodson was the favorite when I made the bet, but in a field of 5, that doesn't mean he's >50% to win. All I really had seen when I took the bet was some noob article that had Woodson at 5/2. I researched after making the bet and realized Woodson probably WAS going to win, based on who the sportswriters with votes were declaring for publicly. It's pretty embarrassing the sportswriters could get this wrong when Woodson gave up about twice as many yards and TDs while facing lower quality WRs. Revis's year was one of the best in NFL history, for any position. There will always be some CB fluking a high interception total but a year like Revis's is rare.

Anyway, all I learned is that I don't respect a $100 bet enough and I need to be more careful blindly accepting bets in the future if I want to avoid Jim gloating (and I really do).

I thought Woodson had it the whole year, tbh. Not sure why Come was so convinced he didn't.

The Packers play a different defense, Woodson alternated between cornerback and safety. Maybe you have some stat that shows the yards he gave up in man-to-man coverage, but it just seems tough to compare Revis and Woodson's stats.

packers lol

colts will probably rest their starters for next season too lol. Their plans of trying as hard as possible to not win the super bowl usually pan out.

since I didn't pick round 1 let's go with...
Cardinals, Ravens, Chargers (though that game is so bad for San Diego--I think the Jets haven't given up 17 points a game in 6 games!), Cowboys With a Chargers SB win over the Cowboys.

hmmm, look like a BSP pundit here but whatever.
