How to create a .com with hosting

I have a webpage on my computer I'd like to get on the net, with my own "xxxxxxxx.com" domain.  Any suggestions what type of package I'd need to buy?  What hosting sites, etc?

Do you require support for a particular language (eg PHP, Perl, Python etc) or database (MySQL, etc)?

How much traffic do you expect? Will you be hosting videos on it, for instance?

Do you require your site to be really fast?

I just need to upload some .html and images, and expect maybe 200-500 views. It's just our wedding website, I need something cheap but that isn't geocities.com/.... ( know that doesn't exist anymore)

It's supposed to be possible to take one of my subdomains (like octo.thengamer.com) and set up a redirect so that anyone going to octoswedding.com will see the subdomain's content instead. (But octoswedding.com would still always be displayed in the address bar). I haven't done it yet, but YE and I will look into getting that set up for you as soon as you get back to us with your GameFAQs bracket.

This is quite easy and YE should be able to do it in a matter of minutes.

Alternatively, if you didn't want to use thengamer, you could get something cheap on Dreamhost.com and that would suit your needs entirely.

Yeah, hosting is a steal these days, and dreamhost especially has some excellent plans. But since I'm already getting unlimited disk space, bandwidth, and subdomains, we might as well continue piling on my servers!

The ideal way to host it on Thengamer would be to change Octo's DNS record to point to Thengamer, then set up a virtual host on the Thengamer server so it serves the wedding pics in response to that domain. However, I suspect we don't have that level of configuration available to us on Thengamer. Another option would be to host it on an Eliter's PC.

Domains are $8.59/year (fairly cheap) and for me it only costs $0.01/day (for the MySQL Database).
