Yes, it's a joke.  It was pretty pointless for my major, since the only "computer engineering" related questions on there dealt with basic programming, Excel spreadsheet "programming" (wtf?), and converting numbers from binary to hex and such.  Well over half of the topics on the "general engineering" portion were on courses I never even took.  Like upper level civil and mechanical engineering questions.

What's your major?  If yours is actually represented on the test, I'm sure it'd be a whole different experience for you.

chemical engineering, i'm not sure if i should take the chem e discipline specific or general exam in the afternoon.  i talked to the ohio board and they recommend the discipline specific, but i feel like the general exam might be easier.  i'm assuming you passed with flying colors?  how much did you study for it?  are you greg woll, EIT? lol

General was a whole bunch of stuff I never learned about, like I said.  So be ready for that if you do go that route.  I encountered subjects like thermodynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics..the equation book is helpful enough that you can plug in the numbers they give you and at least get close to a reasonable answer.  I barely studied, I just went through a practice exam and skimmed a review book.

But yes, I am an EIT.   I never picked up my certificate though, not like it would mean anything since I live in PA now anyway.

Except every engineer of like.. basically all engineering majors takes thermodynamics, materials and fluids, etc.  Sounds like a pretty "general" "general test" to me

The computer engineering curriculum at my school didn't hit on any of those topics, Octo.  I doubt electrical did either.  Mechanical or civil, sure.

And the topic was on whether or not anyone had taken the test, Ryan.  It surely is significant for OTHER engineering majors, I was just pointing out that even though I took it, it was not significant (or required) for my major.

yeah, here at case we were required to take certain engr classes that dealt with those disciplines, including computer programing, statics, thermo, circuits, and materials.  i think im gonna go with the chem e exam.

what did you mean by "not like it would mean anything since I live in PA now anyway."?

Computer engineering at my school had zero to do with the engineering department.

Electrical engineering yeah I guess that is an outlier, they did a lot more stats and math related classes AFAIK.

I was under the impression that my certification only applies within Ohio, but I could be wrong.

hmmm...that would be dumb, because graduates often don't know what state they will work in.  i don't think that's the case, though; i think the certification applies everywhere.
