Having seen most of the films this year, i thought Original Screenplay was definitely the trickiest prediction and is my most anticipated category for the night, more so than Best Picture.

I feel kinda sorry this year for Star Trek, it has a couple noms but realistically only a chance for makeup. It is a great movie simply overshadowed by other great movies.

Best film of '09 = 500 Days of Summer

I have proof the oscars are a joke. Ennio Morricone has never won an oscar, only nominated.

Morricone received an Oscar in 2007 for his magnificent and multifaceted contributions to the art of film music.

How's that Top Ten of the decade coming along, Axel?

Yeah, I know. It's still a bloody shame he didn't win a proper Oscar like he should have had ages ago. I also think he was nominated for the "wrong scores" most of the time since the soundtracks he didn't even get a nomination for often are way better. I guess most of it depended on the fact that he was non-american and/or composed music for foreign language films. Nowadays if you're a foriegner you're more likely to win than back in the 60s or 70s, that's for sure. I mean look at the winner in the Original Score category back in 1968; John Barry (a fine composer) won for the film "The Lion in Winter". Today, how many remember the score? How many has even heard of the film? 99% of the people today would say that Morricone's music for "Once Upon a Time in the West", which was released the same year, was way more worthy winning the Oscars than Barry's. Yet Morricone didn't even get nominated  Obviously the same thing about "Once Upon a Time in America". I mean wtf. That kind of proves that Morricone's music is cult; they haven't lost a touch since the arrangements first was written and perhaps they are even better today, unlike many, many other soundtrack winners.

Getting an honorary award is more like a consoling thing; at least it's waaaay better than nothing though, but it feels like Morricone is in the "loser's bracket" or something in the Oscars together with such guys as Lumet, Edwards, Altman etc etc.

Here's my predictions; I haven't seen that many films (only 9 of the 43 , which is the lowest in years; not even Avatar  but I will) so most of them are just pure guesses (as if it wouldn't have been guesses if I had watched more of the nominated movies). Anyway, here it goes:

Best Picture: Avatar

Best Director: James Cameron - Avatar

Best Actor: Jeff Bridges ? Crazy Heart

Best Actress: Sandra Bullock ? The Blind Side

Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz ? Inglourious Basterds

Best Supporting Actress: Mo'Nique ? Precious

Best Adapted Screenplay: District 9

Best Animated Feature: Up

Best Foreign Language Film: The White Ribbon

Best Documentary Feature: The Cove

Best Sound Editing: Avatar

Best Sound Mixing: The Hurt Locker

Best Cinematography: Avatar

Best Makeup: Star Trek

I don't want to edit my post due to conflicts in the time-space continuum, but here's a recount of my bets;

Best Director

The Field [vs. James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow] to win, $1.00 to win $41.42

RESULT: LOST $1.00 (Bigelow won)

Which film will win the most Oscars?

Avatar -0.5 Oscars, $16.00 to win $18.56

RESULT: LOST $16.00 (The Hurt Locker won the most)

Best Foreign Language Film

The White Ribbon [Germany,] $1.73 to win $1.57

RESULT: LOST $1.73 (El Secreto de Sus Ojos won)

Will Quentin Tarantino [Inglorious Basterds] win Best Original Screenplay?

No, $3.00 to win $4.86

RESULT: WON $3.00 (The Hurt Locker won)

Final Tally: -$15.73

wow, pretty surprising that "The Hurt Locker" won, but then again I haven't seen "Avatar" yet and all I can say is that "Hurt Locker" was the best war movie in years (a bit long, though) but overall exceptional (and of course very important in todays politics etc).

And also congrats to Adam (if I haven't counted wrong) who won the-elite's AA 2010 predictions!
