My near death experience
« on: March 23, 2010, 03:30:00 am »

This past weekend i had a NEAR death experience. Dieing was a straight up option for me. First let me talk about some things for you guys to better understand. I have never been much of a drug DOer, but my senior year I kind of got into some, nothing really hardcore just weed, shrooms,Xanax, Cough Syrup(one time crazy shit)and a few pain pills. About two and a half weeks ago my brother asked me one night he said "Ryan Im gonna do ecstasy" and i said you arent doing it without me. So we took em and smoked to kick it in. We thought it was the greatest Drug EVER I'll never forget that night. We have always love Trance/Techno, but when i first walked into my house Rollin(on ecstasy) and sat down at the computer and listened to some of my favorite songs it was one of the most amazing things i have ever listened to i was just stuck. I started getting pumped and dancing. My brother and I immediatley called some of our friends and said you guys gotta try this. They wanted to try it also and after they saw how we were on them they couldnt say no. That night was great we were all vibin to trance songs and just jammin... nothing like a first time on Ecstasy. We did it the next night and the night after that. Your not supposed to do it that often or else you build tolerance and it sucks so we abstained for a bit. I know Alex Anderson rolls or w/e so it may not be new to you guys but now im going to talk about this past weekend. Well before i popped i was kinda worried because my 4th time i had double dropped 2 pills (quadstacks) and i was Rollin Face so hard and im pretty sure my heart got out of rythm that night and i went on a bad roll but i was normal the next morning. That 4th time should have been a warning.... Anyway so i popped with my brother and we went to my friends house they were also rollin. While I was there i didnt feel to good. I know people die from dehydration on ecstasy so i drank some water and i never ended up having to piss and i wasnt sweating either. so i kept drinking more and more water and felt worse and worse. I threw up a shit ton of water and felt better then went home. I was kind of scared to go to bed cause i like to go to sleep when im not fucked up but I fell asleep anyway... That morning my brother heard me making noise. He ran in and i was having a seizure he said i was stiff as a board. He freaked the fuck out and had to tell my parents. I was bleeding from the mouth, throwing up, and pissing myself. They took me to the ER and the doctor there that my mother had called used to run a detox unit in New Jersery. They told him I had taken ecstasy and that I was having seizures. He knew exactly what was wrong and knew exactly what to do. I had water intoxication. There is a horomone in MDMA called arginine vasopressin (AVP)  that makes the body hold onto water. So I wasnt getting rid of anyway water the night before. Some people react different. I have pissed before while rollin but lately it had started to make me not piss and it seemed to affect me pretty good. All the sodium in my body was Dilute. Sodium makes the heart work, it and potassium give the heart an electrical charge to beat and I had NO sodium. My heart rate in the ER was 190. My heart continued to beat and they talked about whether they were going to have to put me on lifesupport if my heart stopped. They hooked IVs into me including sodium and put me on Cardizem to lower my heart rate and it worked. My heart had gone into Atrial Fibrillation and was just shaking at one point in the ER, but luckily they lowered it. A girl named Leah Betts died in 1995 from the same exact thing. She had water intoxication with a sodium level of 126 (lower worse). Mine got down to 122 and I still held on. They say it was because I was a young 18 year old male at the peak of my physical life that my heart held on and im lucky that brain swelling didnt crush my brain stem and kill me like that one girl. My heart got back into rythm later saturday night and i gained consciousness in the Intensive Care Unit in the hospital. The Cardiologist,Neurologist, and Family Practitioner(head of detox unit) all came in to check on me and explain what was going on. I am super lucky that I am alive and suffered no brain damage. My heart did not suffer any damage either although it is still sensitive and so much as walking will raise my heart rate to the 130s. That will go away in about a week though. Its funny how stupid I am. Its true kids really think they are invincible and that nothing will ever happen to them. Well it can happen to anyone...Im thankful to be alive and Im not taking life for granted anymore. I cant afford to take ecstasy again. It might kill me... My heart doesnt react well to all the speed in it and shit. I quit all my drugs that I do including weed. I just want to become a healthy person and continue a happy life.

Im glad I could share this information and this story with you...I was never some hardcore druggie i was just a teenage kid getting into some shit and probably could have become a hardcore druggie if something didnt stop me... its kinda sad that it almost had to come to death though. This was also not a cry for help or anything and I didnt turn to drugs because I had problems. I just wanted to start doing Ecstasy and It totally hit me by surprise. Now I'm not doing drugs and Im fine with it because I got a second chance at life. Just remember as soon as you are feeling down in life just look at all the great things you do have around you.

Yeah man.  I've been completely sober for almost a year now.  Some stuff that teenage kids do (drugs, sex, stupid dares) just aren't worth it.  They pose no benefit to you or anyone else and are only destructive.

Thank God that you're alive and it's great that you're not taking life for granite anymore.

I really thought people used granite instead of granted cause I thought people didnt pay attention to the damn rock so i thought there was a comparison but I fixed it... Thats what Google says, but lets not get started on some conversation about that saying please.

There are good drugs too though, I think, I heard cannabis might be actually very good if feeling depressed, better than those antidepressant crappies which I don't wanna take anymore. It all might depend on the dosage and stuff too, I barely have any own experiece with drugs though, unless you count gaming.

What each ecstasy pill contains can be totally random so you can die from the very first one you take. I'm glad you're alive though Hopefully you will never touch that shit again. I myself, have never touched drugs with my fingers, or even seen them except in television.

So let me get this straight Ryan. Waste yourself with alcohol every weekend is ok, but not sex? btw, you don't necesary have to get a disease or die from sex if you use your head a little.

When did I say that?  I said drugs are bad and sex is bad.  Alcohol is a drug.

nice story, I got preety freaked out while reading that, glad you are ok and had no damage or anything. yeah perhaps you had just a really bad luck or your body couldn't take that. I've had some bad times with weed a couple of times then I kinda "stopped", it really shocked me at how my heart was reacting some times. I've done some kind of drugs (lsd and such), never really cared and never had a problem, but after a while it feels like a waste when you can drink as a motherfucker and still have a great time with your friends.

again, good topic, everybody should read that!

Yeah they're some smart little creatures indeed! I even taught some of my previous rats, to pick up a little ball from a glass and put it in another glass so they can get their reward. As soon as they where not hungry anymore, they wasn't interested in doing it anymore  I've had 2 rats from November 06 till now (One of them passed away Dec 09 ) and 4 rats simultaneous from 01 - 06.

Cool story. You're quite unlucky to have that happen, luckily everything turned out relatively fine at the end.

In saying that.. I really don't believe taking drugs in itself is a terribly stupid idea. I think the fact that a lot of people that take them do it too much and also don't have much going for themselves in life gives drugs a bad name.

I have tried weed, speed and coke on a few occasions but nothing serious. The one drug I've had a fair few times is pills and I can't really say I've ever had a bad situation because of them. I believe my experiences with pills have opened my mind a lot and exposed me to things I would not have experienced otherwise.. and these experiences have given me more wisdom for now and the future.

On a side note it's hilarious to see people who have never done it comment on how stupid it is. Almost every ancient culture uses/used drugs for several different reasons. It was most commonly used in the initiations of boys into men as a way of expanding their minds.

Naw I agree with karl. I really think that it has opened my mind and I have made a ton of new friends getting into drugs also. Its just knowledge is power and I was completely unaware about the water intoxication and almost had to pay the price for it.

Yeah, but Karl really has a lot going for him in life.  He is a successful young man who has earned a lot of respect from his peers and as a result is an influential man in his community.  Since I'm a troll, I am most effective when I am wasting the time of a person who has high character.

If you "don't have any story to tell" you just can't really say anything useful. It's like Ned Flanders telling Homer to stop drinking because it's bad. I totally agree with Karl here. If you stay in a hole for 30 years you won't have anything to share... guys, we all have one life, you gotta try things out, without exaggerating obviously, and we are all glad because lockwood didn't have any damage.

I have never smoked, been drunk, or been under the influence of any other drug any time in my life... not counting stuff like caffiene obviously.

Also I haven't taken medicine or pills since I was about 4 years old. Again not counting shots and stuff that are required

I think some good has come from drugs as most good musicians used them, but really they are not necessary to live a fulfilling life by any means and I don't really understand why you need to try drugs before you say it is stupid to take them.

It's silly to talk negatively about something that you have no experience with. Why? Because you're basing your opinion on an experience someone ELSE has had, not yourself. You have no idea what it is like to take a drug. You are making assumptions based on a perception you have about it.

If your comments about drugs extend beyond "I personally would not take drugs", or.. "From what I've heard and/or seen drugs can have a negative effect on people," you are an idiot.

The word 'stupid' is subjective. You can't be subjective about an experience you have never had... unless you are a moron, in which case sure! You can do whatever you want because you're special!

Yep, we can see the outcome for the ppl who tries drugs, just like in Ryan's case now. I think its just stupid to experience a "close to death" at your own will when most ppl know drugs isnt good for your body even if it might feel cool or whatever at the very first but you gotta pay for it someday sooner or later and the price might be high. So yeah, I think we definitely have the right to say that noone should try drugs.

By the way, Im glad it turned out fine Ryan and Im glad you stopped with drugs. Also I would like to add that getting new friends just from drugs usually isnt any real friends in the end if they also use drugs. I know this since my dad was/might be still, idk, a alcoholic (yep, a real alcoholic) and his "friends" was only friends with him when he had alcohol around. The only difference it was alcohol and not drugs but you get the idea. Just take that as some kind of warning and ofc its not like that in all cases, but Im just saying.

Many people die each year from extreme sports and activities like skydiving, base jumping, bungee jumping and other crazy stuff which is similar but not nearly as condemned. Doing ANYTHING in life has a risk to it in fact and sometimes people will hurt themselves and die.

Trying drugs is not necessarily a bad thing. Obviously anything in the hands of an idiot can be used incorrectly however, and obviously, as with anything in life, it has risks associated with it (though statistically the chances of hurting yourself taking pills is extremely minimal and is comparable to driving a car).

Sports does have risks like you said, Karl. One out of a infinity of things that has risks involved, but one difference is that sporsts doesnt give you braindamages etc by just performing them. Accidents can happen, and thats not a whole lot you can do anything about other than maybe being a bit careful, like checking one extra time on the wire that you will use when you bungeejump or whatever, and not doing stuff you know you cant really handle yet. Also activity makes your body stronger and when you succeed with something you get happy about the brain will reward itself in a healthy way.

Drugs however doesnt do anything good to you. You damage the brain everytime you do drugs. The brain also "rewards" itself way too much wich is the reason to why you get all high and also the reason, in a bit longer persective, addiction to whatever youre using and when youre there youre in the bad spiral wich we all know where it ends if you dont stop with it in time. You wont die from just performing a sport itself but might die by a accident wich is a risk that is very minimal. However, drugs will kill you sooner or later by just "performing" them alone and thats a huge difference.

So yeah, you cant compare sporsts to drugs. As I see it it was just a typicall excuse from someone who thinks its cool to try.

"Yeah we only got one life so we gotta try things out. Ryan and i, have tried to not trying drugs. Isn't that a try as much as doing drugs is a try?"

yeah that was clever! No one is telling you to do or not to do drugs, it's just that you can't say like "never do it, it's bad and you will look stupid". I'd rather say "alright, try it out, but don't exaggerate, you have a whole life". Do you deny skydiving (or whatever you call it)? No. You just say "ok, that's a nice experience, but please open the parashooter". I'm NOT saying whether you SHOULD or SHOULDN'T do drugs, it's just a matter of arguing about something you actually know about.

"Also I would like to add that getting new friends just from drugs usually isnt any real friends in the end if they also use drugs."

I also have made "friends" playing a lot of multiplayer games and they were just "game" friends. Only a few turned out to be good, close friends for life. Where is the difference? That was preety dumb, Henning.

Henning: saying drugs can't do anything good for you is a total fallacy. I'd say the experience of a high is something that can clearly enrich your life (*especially* if you're artistically inclined).
