Just as the Swedes are once again meeting up about a month before VA, so will the Americans!

I'll be hosting another meet, at my house in Michigan, from 6/25 - 6/27. So far the following people are definitely in for those dates:

Greg Woll
Adam Matis
Jim Barrett
Trent Hovis

and possibly David Clemens.

If anyone else is interested let me know, on here or on AIM (musclesNmustang3). People can arrive anytime Friday (I will likely have a half day of work) or I will just take off Friday if people want to arrive Thursday night instead.

Should be an even better time than last year, now that I'm in a house and we won't be stuck in my apartment living room for 48 hours straight ha. Also I live about a quarter mile from a park so we can get out and do sports and stuff other than just gaming. I'll provide some food/snacks but this time we'll make a shopping trip when everybody arrives so everyone can just buy what they want for the weekend. That seemed to work really well at Adam's in January. Then Jimbo can't bitch about food like last year.

And of course we'll run the usual GE tournament. We'll use the double elimination format which has become popular. And you know me, I'll have every match recorded.

hmmm this is a drivable distance but dunno if I can go.  Plus this would be more of the drinking/GE meet type and obviously neither are my forte.  Would've also preferred to catch a tigers game (even by myself the day after the meet or whatever) while I was there but they're on the road for like 2 weeks then.

How far are you from chicago?  It might not be farther time wise than Jimbo's drive.  (since I don't have to go south)

god damnit jimbo I've told you 1000x that I don't live anywhere near Milwaukee/Chicago  stop that!

I believe Chicago is about 3.5 hours from here; Jimbo would know for sure though since he passed through coming here last year.

heh I'm actually closer than Jimbo is by about an hour.   Unfortunately it's 2-3 hours out of the way for both of us to meet up so no reason to unless I'm already in chi/mil (very unlikely) at that time.  I dunno if I can make this anyway but who knows I suppose.

So here's my proposal: I have 2 options during this exact weekend.

Option A - Ridiculous luxury weekend at girlfriend's house in her hometown, all expenses paid by her parents and extended family. Hotel, wedding, afterparty, meeting extended family, etc. Not the first choice of exciting things to do, but if I don't go, her parents might actually cut my balls off.

Option B - Michigan meet. Option B is higher priority here for now, but without a passenger to adsorb the gas bill, option A takes priority (due to importance of option A and how close this is to VA). Rachel knows the MI meet has been planned for ages, but never exactly WHAT weekend; now I'm in a fucking pickle.

Find me a passenger and this is all moot! go go go!

May I remind you we picked this weekend because YOU said it was good for you? And what's $120 or whatever in gas...Matis and Woll are probably flying which would be a hell of a lot more than that.

Jimbo = whipped.

F that jimbo, what is one weekend out of the year...like eddie said i'll be flying for sure and that is going to be expensive plus im a poor graduated college student :P a weekend like this to hang out with good friends and have a great time is worth it in the end. even though i barely see greg or eddie anymore, any time i do i put it first priority because this is the stuff to remember.

Well It's official: I wont be able to attend the MI meet =// It's pretty much impossible due to the fact that A. The bus routes are ridiculous (10+ hour rides) B. My car isnt reliable enough for a 12 hour drive to and from WI and C. I cant miss more than 1 day of work, and even missing 1 day is pretty bad enough as is. Oh well, I really wanted to go and am very disappointed that it has come to this, and also I doubt I can make Virginia either since I would need to miss several days of work for that within my 90 days of starting this job so yeah... pretty much screwed here.

Actually epic fail on my part for posting that lol. After careful consideration and consulting with Jimbo about things, I have decided there is a good chance I am coming! I will just get some work done on my car beforehand. Basically if Jimbo agrees to pick me up in a worst case scenario of my car breaking down this meet should be a go. I really dont want to miss this meet and am doing everything i can to make it happen because I cant go to virginia and this is my only good chance to see some of my friends from the elite so yeah hopefully it works out!

EDDIE, i hate asking this really, but is there a way you could borrow me some money to fly to Green Bay to drive the remainder with Jimbo? I have gone over my options and it is by far the best one. Or if not you, Jimbo might be able to but he didnt seem like he wanted to. I have a steady income now so I could get you paid back within a couple weeks if that helps.

I benched 6 reps and you guys took away 2? So gay. I also did 15 chinups after doing 21 sitting curls (pure bicep curl) whereas Clemens did his number where half were cheating; if you are taking away the bench press reps from me, then take away his arm curl reps.

I'll do a full recap in a short bit...

Alrighty! This trip started out with quite a change from last year; David's flight got delayed pretty late because of a huge storm system that was moving through the midwest, this left him stranded in Milwaukee at midnight the day before the meet. I had 2 options, I could wait for him to catch an 11 AM flight to Green Bay (and waste that entire day), or drive in the middle of the night to pick him up in Milwaukee.... through this massive storm. It was a terrifying drive, but I couldn't leave Clemens waiting, and ultimately decided to drive through the AM hours to Eddie's house. Chicago was *dead*, and eventually I pulled over to nap for a bit at a small gas station; it probably looked weird seeing Clemens lying on his back in the back of my huge car, and me lying across both front seats in the fetal position. I actually took the wrong exit at first off of I-94, and ended up in an area of 99% black thugs, which deep down scared the hell out of me! Just a few miles down though, the segregation line appeared and it turned into a nice white neighborhood, where Eddie lived! We arrived!

Within about 3 hours, I nailed Jungle 0:53 (on tape); I'm pretty sure it got taped over, but after getting some tips from Clemens and Eddie, the time was a total joke. It was during the first day's fuck-around period of multiplayer that I got my only trainshot of the meet, aww. Eddie bought us pizza later that night which was total ownage, and Greg spent about 3 hours inputting the codes in to enable Control for multiplayer, which I personally greatly enjoyed. The highlight for the first day (well, besides the thought of being at another meet), was meeting Jackson! I have never met a cat who was as friendly, social, and awesome as this cat, everyone wanted to take him home!

Sunday consisted of the 2 events in the meet that, at least to me, will stick out for a lifetime. We went to Eddie's mom's house to do the bench-off and play some ping pong; I eventually had the brilliant idea of playing croquet (which I always keep in my car). It was a super fun game and most of us picked on Clemens, but ultimately Matis/Trent DESTROYED us. Adam, Trent, and I left our wallets and other things on the hood of my car, but Adam appeared to have forgotten to take his wallet off the hood. About 6 miles down the interstate, Adam realizes he doesn't have his wallet... So I have to turn around and go back to the neighborhood. After driving pretty slow to spot anything we could in the streets, Eddie's mom said she found it with no cash in it! (-$37), turns out she was just breaking Adam's balls and everything was OK; the wallet was in the street lying open, Adam caught a break! Later that night, Eddie suggested we go to this restaurant that he had never been to. I'll let Eddie or someone else explain how this waitress was, but this was probably the worst service we had ever gotten lol, I think she was high. We also played the most intense 50-turn round of Mario Party 2 I've ever been involved in, we all got screwed multiple times but in the end, Greg took home the gold in a match where 22 stars were earned!

Monday I got Statue SA 2:21, and failed 2:20 00A because Clemens told me to leave the statue just a hair too early (failed Obj B), and I got the flight recorder anyway On the drive home, I ran over a massive tunk of semi-tire and destroyed a muffler on my car, making my car exceptionally loud. I got 23.19 MPG on the way home, which is phenomenal for such a big car and big engine (kept the A/C off). Time for the highlight pictures!

(They had to ride in my 3rd row seat, which faced backwards; called the "gunner seats" by anyone who owned a station wagon of this time period)

(Fuck yeah Lovins!)

Oh yeah, i forgot to mention that David had probably the most ridiculous Magnum-trainshot kill I've ever seen; for a guy who doesn't know Caves at all, he randomly looked up and right and shot his gun, instantly killing Adam with a headshot, the reaction was priceless. Hopefully Eddie uploads that!

^Yeah I'm almost to that match in my capturing right now. Also my bad Jimbo, didn't know you did 15 Clemens did 23 curl reps so I did take a few away from him though...but anyways the bench-off was the only main event so I wasn't looking to keep accurate stats everywhere.

Nice write-up, I'll say some stuff soon after the vids and results are up.

Well first of all  I would like to make it clear that I won that Mario Party 2 game Jim is talking about. I was down a few stars due to poor luck (imo), then near the end in the last 15 turns or so I got a 2-3 star lead and won the game with 7 total stars IIRC. Greg won a seperate game we later played with 20 turns from what I rememeber. I also remember doing 15 chinups actually but oh well who even cares about that.

Anyway Id like to thank Eddie very much for hosting this meet and I had a TON of fun. By far the best elite meet ive ever been to (maybe even better than the first Boss meet which was originally the best, followed closely by one of the Koch meets) the whole thing was just epic great fun and it never really got boring, especially with pretty much infinite supply of junk food hehehe. I wont say the results of multi but I will say I definitely improved and this meet was proof of that. Also I forgot my check at work on friday so Ill pay you back either this week or next week Eddie. Here are some of my thoughts on the people with this meet:

Jimbo- I think Jimbo has really toned down and become much more friendly and I actually grew to like him much more during this meet. He has his moments of bitching, but overall he was great fun to hang around for a few days. He needs to do something about his road rage heh, but ah well I would definitely drive somewhere with Jimbo again.

Eddie- Pretty quiet guy and a lot of times it seems like he is pissed off about something, but such a great guy and his multitalent in random N64 games is impressive (Pretty good at smash, goldeneye and mario kart... I suck ass at kart and smash). Gotta give him props for hosting the meet alone and I dont think anyone could have done a better job. His skill in GE multi was also very impressive. Lets just say I threw the controller at one point and nearly broke some glass =/. Easily the best multiplayer I went against this meet.

Adam- Always  get a good laugh hanging around adam. We had some hilarious multi moments and overall i think Adam was the most important part of this meet. If you took him out it just wouldnt be 10% as fun as it is when he is there. Also it was awesome playing depot sa 2.4 with adam (we failed a 41 lol).

Greg- One of my favorite eliters, great guy. Always cracks a good joke here and there and definitely made the meet a lot better. Pretty solid at multi although I guess this year Adam had the overall edge. Was pretty awesome when he unlocked Control in GE multi, although it was pretty laggy so kinda useless heh.

Trent- I guess I wasnt expecting Trent to be as quiet as he was. He literally didnt ask me a single question the entire meet but I think after meeting him I have grown grown to like him more and our tension on the forums probably wont be there any more heh. Trent reminded me in a lot of ways of Bryan Bosshardt, I guess.

Nice write-ups! Looks/sounds like you guys had tons of fun.  Makes me wanna go to Virginia as soon as possible, it's just too bad that Clemens can't seem to make it there.

Looking forward to the multiplayer videos. They'll definitely be interesting to watch.

I guess it's time for my brief, random, and unsatisfactory post-meet highlights/notes:

I didn't win any Mario Party games.  Only played the 50-turn match, and lead like 47 turns, and ended up in 3rd due to the bonus stars.  Even without them, I think I would have taken second cause Dave had a ton of coins.  Was definitely my most epically lucky match of all time for a while though (two hidden box stars, and hit the bank spot for over 100 coins), so it's pretty terrible that I didn't even take 2nd place, lol.

LC (Lucky Clemens) definitely brought the pain this year.  I wasn't sure what to expect from him multiplayer-wise, but he definitely improved a ton over last year's meet.

"You know"

After my mild success with Control multiplayer, I attempted to mash up a couple Gameshark codes to create a multiplayer weapon set involving Phantom, Hunting Knife, Silver PP7, and Shotgun..while drunk.  Didn't go well.

Hungry Howie's is the best pizza ever.  It's all about the butter cheese.

Completely tanking it in a Secret Agent speedrun.  Felt pretty shitty especially after watching Clemens plow through a 00 Agent run.

Eddie and Trent locked in the back of Jimbo's station wagon when we went to the restaurant.

Toaster oven pizza rolls >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> microwaved pizza rolls

Watching Jimbo and Clemens go for a Mario Party 3 world record.  Surprisingly entertaining.  Especially when Clemens spiked Jimbo's controller in celebration of a PR.

Statue strategy - "Val Strafe, Trev Shot, Nat Slap"

Jimbo referring to the sky as "Surface 1" colored

Jackson, the greatest cat of all time.

Collective sadness at all 6 of us losing a world record on Saturday.

Great meet Eddie, I had a lot of fun!

GOLDENEYE TOURNAMENT RESULTS

We started off with preliminary matches to determine seeding. Since there were 6 of us, 2 would get byes in the first round...the 2 who got the best preliminary records. We did a round-robin, everybody plays everybody twice, first to 5 kills, each player picks one map.

Preliminary records
1. Woll 8-2
2. Clemens 7-3
3. Lovins 5-5
4. Matis 4-6
4. Jimbo 4-6
6. Trent 2-8

So Woll and Clemens earned byes, and first round match-ups were Lovins vs. Trent and Matis vs. Jimbo.

Vids are linked for most matches, note the spoilers. For all matches, our characters are

Clemens = Xenia
Jimbo = Russian Commandant
Lovins = Moonraker Elite
Matis = Trevelyan
Trent = Mayday
Woll = Siberian Special Forces

Sincere apologies for the semi-bad vid quality in some of the vids, suddenly my capture card sucks.

First round

Lovins defeats Trent 10-6 Complex, 10-7 Facility (no vids available)
Jimbo vs. Matis   Match 1 - Facility    Match 3 - Egypt

Spoiler
Matis defeats Jimbo 5-10 Facility, 1-0 Caves (Jimbo forfeits), 10-3 Egypt

Loser's bracket finals

Championship (loser's bracket player has to win 2 series in a row - best of 3 then best of 5)

Spoiler
Clemens defeats Matis 10-5 Temple, 5-10 Caves, 10-2 Bunker

Clemens vs Patrik at the virginia meet would be a terrific match.
Embrace the grind.

I don't really see a Patrik beater or Eise beater in Clem yet but I think he could be on his way if he really had some serious practise a few times a month.

Pretty impressive he managed to win that though, all these other americans have probably had more multi practise than Clem and it was against Matis who was 2nd in Virginia last year so.

Also I don't think the person who has lost a game should need to win extra many rounds in the finals, I don't know any sport that does that, just whoever gets to the finals should meet in a 5 round game or whatever is decided for the finals beforehand, just my opinion on that, however if the rules would be like that in a tournament that I would participate in then I guess I'd just have to accept that and take into consideration that I should make it to the finals undefeated. If there should be something to win in not losing a game then there is already that you feel secure in the rounds and perhaps psychological but if you wanna throw in something extra then let that player choose a level one extra time, needing to win an 3 round game before the 5 round game is a bit too much imo, though Clem managed to pull it off here, sweet.

well patrik and eise play totally different then us (more campy) :P

I could play like that but i'm more offensive even though defense is a better strat. So there is potential in Clemens...honestly had more trouble with him then patrik.

Yeah Illu that's just how a double elimination format works. Clemens lost to me while Adam hadn't lost to anyone yet, and to be knocked out of the tournament you have to lose twice, hence Clemens has to beat Adam twice.

Not an Eise or Patrik beater? Keep in mind last year Adam was almost even with Patrik (won 3 of 7 matches against him), and since then Adam has played a LOT of multi (100 matches against me in December/January, Florida meet, Michigan meet). And since Greg and I are basically right at the same level, I think any of us could really pull it off now. But definitely a shame Clemens can't make it since we now know he's right there with us too.
