Alright, with the conclusion of the opening matches happening on Friday, we're very close to the 2nd round! Now I'm not sure how I tallied points for the round of 16-finals rounds in the 2006 WC, but I'm willing to change scoring for the upcoming rounds. Here's what I propose

In a non-penalty kick game:
Correctly pick winner = 2 points
Perfect pred = 5 points

In a penalty kick game:
Predict tie at end of regulation = 1 point
Correct pred of score at end of regulation = 2 points
Predict a tie game AND pick the winner after PKs = 3 points
Predict a tie game AND pick correct number of PKs (ie 5-3) = 3 points
Predict a tie game AND pick the winner AND correct PK count = 5 points

I'll gladly change one of those 3 point options to a 4 pointer if people prefer (we're all a little OCD, after all), just let me know. Please tell me what you think!

If a decision hasn't been made on the scoring system for the knockout rounds, I'd like to suggest we use the scoring we had in the last World Cup. Basically, scoring is the same as we're doing, but if the game goes to extra time, we use the final result, not just the result after 90 minutes, and if we predict a draw, we get to predict the penalty kick winner with it for a chance at a bonus point.

The bonus point possibility on draws is fair because draws are less likely now, since the draw has to hold up in extra time.

Yeah, I guess I misinterpreted that as I read it. So a perfect draw prediction is 3 points (like it was in the group stages). Picking the PK winner nets you a super awesome 4th point!

Yeah, it's better this way, wiff. Picking the PK winner is pretty much a crapshoot anyway so that's worth about a half point of value. And draws are now more difficult to predict since the game has to be tied after 90 minutes and then be tied a 2nd time after 120 minutes. If you're making it more difficult for draws to happen and making them worth less points at the same time, it throws everything out of balance and makes draws a poor option. Now they're worth about 3.5, which is fair given the increased difficulty of getting them correct.
