edit--on various things my entire sportsbetting roll is on the line either via MLB/NFL prop bets or ridic week 1 action (god damn I've got a lot of week 1 teasers--those ridic -3 -130 lines force this and I'm not a big teaser fan but damn) but that does mean there are busto possibilities!  and I did bet the Lions.  Um go Bears?
edit2--best bets are a bit of a brag-- I got the over on the Harrison props before the site changed them (they did realize Hardesty was done for the year--but didn't change the #'s to correlate so it would be quite the unlucky loss [the last time that happened I got owned though--variance :/]).   Beat--max bet on props was $100

Most Overrated Team AFC

Baltimore Ravens   Yeah, a great case can be made for the Jets but the tiebreaker here is that I don't see everyone picking the Jets in the AFC title game whereas I do see a lot of Ravens pickers.

Most Overrated Team NFC

Chicago Bears   They have 2 starting offensive tackles who shouldn't be in the league.  The LT got moved cause he can't run block  and now his problem is that he can't pass block.  I wanted Mendenhall but NOOOOO.  The RT should've been booted out of the league 2 years ago and is only starting literally by default.  That O line is gonna suck for awhile cause Kreutz (perennial pro bowler C) is going to leave after this season to FA (he's already said he's gone).  God  Damn  It.  Only good thing is that Lovie Smith will FINALLY get fired.  4th and 1 on the opponents 33 behind with 50 sec left and 3 timeouts?  MUST PUNT THE BALL!!!!   ah sports the one fun thing where guys get paid millions and still not only have no idea what they're doing but when presented with ideas on how to win more games immediately dismiss them!

I'm betting against the Bears every game this season.

heh @ Jon doing that 6 team thing.  The Raiders (slash Chiefs  slash Broncos  slash the whole NFC West) scare me cause they could fluke a 8-8 wild card berth and the Lions are really only a year away  which is a bit risky  [see Tampa Bay Rays]

I've only got the Bills and Browns being the only two "locks" to miss the playoffs at the moment though with the AFC/NFC West's being so ungodly bad and playing each other that some shit team out of there's got a great shot at fluking some 10-6 record.  However if I was to take 6  I'd go Bills, Browns, Redskins, Jaguars, Bucs, and would lean the Bears for the last one.

I'd bet against to make the playoffs (given odds based on current projections)
Texans, Jets, Ravens, Bears, Redskins, Cardinals, SeaTurkeys,  Giants, Eagles

I'd bet to make the playoffs (given odds based on current projections)
Panthers, Lions, Steelers, Titans, ... the Rams were so close to firing one as well but had a limited roll to use.  That one's gonna haunt me if it's close late.

now time for my COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT AND MEANINGLESS playoff picks!
AFC  (in order of seed)  Colts, Chargers, Steelers, Patriots, Titans, Jets  (thought about Raiders for shock value)

NFC   Vikings, Cowboys, Saints, 49ers by default (simply the team with the least amount of issues--and one of those is the TE going after a WR), Packers, Falcons

The O/U of playoff teams returning is about 7 as I believe last year it was 4.

That leaves the most useless ridiculous superbowl prediction ever [guaranteed to be wrong]....    (btw if Norv Turner didn't make the on field decisions and a mathematician did instead I think San Diego would have 3 of the last 4 super bowls... Just saying)

Vince Young celebrates his new heisman trophy with a super bowl trophy leading the Titans to defeat the Vikings with the key play being Albert Haynesworth ending Favre's career just before halftime in an epic come from ahead  24-21 victory.

every single possible teaser that moved the line from the 3 over the 7 was victorious and the Lions did cover  so wheeeeeeeeee.

This week's update  posted bets--Lions to cover  1-0.

I still don't know why the fantasy buzzards were so bullish on Malcolm Floyd--yes he was targeted a lot but he still doesn't seem to give a shit even with the game on the line he NEVER goes after or fights for the ball.  Ridiculous he's even still employed imo.

Alex Barron is exactly who we all thought he was.   He's still way overmatched.

damn no teasers and can't take Dallas -9 even vs the lowly Bears (and yes, that was a touchdown, and yes the rule is dumb, but the big Q is this--how do you define what is and isn't a catch without allowing a shitload of subjectivity into it?.

may not bet this week but leaning Denver (desperatly hoping for a -3 line--Denver has such a ridic home field advantage and Seattle looked way too good last week)

The 49ers are a total mess.  Jury's still out on whether Alex Smith can handle a traditional offense but that's the only thing SF even wants to run (he's definitely solid in a shotgun style O though) and Crabtree either doesn't have the intelligence or gives a shit to learn more than 20 plays (now I know why Texas Tech's playbook was so thin)  Here's a fucking thought--make use of your team's talent instead of doing stuff just because you want to do it that way or *gasp* get the personnel that fits that system?  Just a thought...    The Raiders aren't looking that stupid more and more every day (somehow)  [ok, that still was a stupid pick but at least they might've drafted the best WR...].

Bets
Texans @ Redskins under 44.  Game's @ Wash and with Kyle Shanahan running the Texans O recently he's got to have some ways to stop them and Wash's O well they never score 20.

Gonna have to pass on anti Bears this week as I'm not sure there's a team people bet more on than Dallas and a 9 pt line is too ridic to bet against here especially after week 1 performances.

You CBS fans are in for a treat as Ravens @ Bengals and Pats @ Jets and Steelers @ Titans are also this week.  Fox gets... Bears @ cowboys (except for packers fans who'll get Bills @ Packers in the largest point spread of the week -14 Pack).  Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.

My big Lions friend at work was pretty much on suicide watch after that "incomplete pass", because they could have been undefeated and the division leader at the time haha. Bills @ Packers shouldn't be a bad game at all if you have A-Rod and B-Jax! (great pickup in any league btw, he catches a ton of passes in the backfield as well as getting handoffs on every down now).

Oh yeah, I remember the 2007 Pats @ Colts game where both teams were 9-0 and 8-0 respectively and the entire country (95% anyway) got that game, however the San Diego market got something silly like SD/KC! I must suggest taking Buffalo +14 at this point; we love to get early leads but then stop playing defense, to the point of Buffalo ending the game 13 points short of a comeback victory! Book it!

That Calvin Johnson TD called incomplete shows how ignorant the NFL can be at times.  By the rule, the play is a TD and should have been called as such on the field.  Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3, Item 1 of the NFL Rule Book (page 51) states that “if a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact with an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete.”

Everyone keeps saying that by this rule, the call was correct, but clearly they aren't reading the same rule that I am.

Calvin Johnson obviously falls into the 'going to the ground in the act of catching a pass' so in order for it to be a catch, he now must maintain control of the ball as he touches the ground.  He clearly controls the ball as his palm and butt hit the ground.  The rule then says that 'if he loses control of the ball and it touches the ground before he regains control the pass is incomplete.  Fortunately, this part of the rule doesn't need to be looked at because Calvin Johnson never lost control of the ball, so when he placed the ball on the ground, that didn't matter.  He simply released the football and then got up and celebrated what should have been the go ahead score with little time left on the clock.  How anyone with common sense could say that this was actually an incomplete pass 'by the rules' is really mind boggling.

I was finally considering going through my season-long baseball bets (that I never posted) to see if I have any good sweats over the last week of the season, since I have no idea how things are going. Then I saw my (few) season-long football bets (that I never posted) and was quite delighted to see how well they're going after 3 weeks. I'll post them now so I can be sure to reap all the glory when all these bets win and nothing goes wrong in the next 14 weeks. !

Tampa Bay Buccaneers - OVER 5.5 wins - Risked $140 to win $100
San Francisco 49ers - UNDER 8.5 wins - Risked $100 to win $110
San Diego Chargers - UNDER 11 wins - Risked $130 to win $100
Houston Texans - UNDER 8 wins - Risked $100 to win $100
Detroit Lions - UNDER 5 wins - Risked $100 to win $110
Dallas Cowboys - UNDER 10 wins - Risked $105 to win $100
Cincinnati Bengals - UNDER 8 wins - Risked $135 to win $100

Have to be pleased as punch with most of that. Also have a couple other things...

Baltimore Ravens to win the AFC - Risked $50 to win $350

Rashard Mendenhall to lead the league in rushing - Risked $20 to win $360 (seems a good investment so far)
Shonn Greene to lead the league in rushing - Risked $20 to win $400 (seems like I could have just lit this money on fire instead)

Then added some nonsense at the last minute...

OVER 20.5 players to record 1000+ receiving yards - Risked $115 to win $100
OVER 15.5 players to record 1000+ rushing yards - Risked $34.50 to win $30

Ryan Mathews to win 2010 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year - Risked $10 to win $30

So I've been part of the non-spread league (finally moving up the ladder there), but perhaps I need to join the spread league.  Check this out from a work league on Yahoo:

Impressive work Clark, especially considering I only managed a 7-6 record this week.

But can you compete with my league-leading 61-50 record for the full season so far?!

Wow props on the perfect week.  You know in Delaware and our recently legalized NFL parlay betting, they sell this $5 card to win $100,000 if you have a perfect week ATS.  Catch is you also have to pick the following week's MNF game correctly, lol.  Well, that's catch #2 actually.  Catch #1 is there are no half-points on the card and any push is a loss.  Pretty horrible odds all told, but in hindsight you definitely shoulda done it, brah!

Also, I'm 62-50 in my spread league, suck it, etc.  Are you guys on ESPN?  By Yahoo's odds, there have been 112 games that haven't pushed so far, but your totals add up to 111 (and Derek posted a Y! image).

I'm using Yahoo.

Yeah, I've heard about some scenarios where you can win some serious money for a perfect week in spread.  But I'm not going to be naive about it, either.  If you consider spread picks a coin toss (reasonable), then the odds of getting the 13-0 week are 1 in (2^13) = 1 in 8192.  So for a single person that's like once every 500 seasons.

might've gone on life tilt had the Rams beaten the Seahawks with that Rams playoff $ bet being solid $ wise.  I've pretty much have quit sportsbetting (though my sleeper team in the Lions completely pwned the spread when I stopped  sigh)  They'll be everyone's sleeper team next season since they're going to be at worst better than the Vikes.   Good news for the rams is Bradford looks legit and every other team in the NFC West has some bum playing that position atm.

went back through the bets now that the season ended.  The browns fucked me with the whole harrison wagers I placed right when Hardesty went down that Hillis easily covered so instead of a win I ended up with a loss.  I shouldn't have trusted idiots who thought Delhomme was the answer at QB.  Lesson learned I guess.  With losing in both baseball and football for prop bets I think I'm nearly done with these.  I suck.

Raiders 6-0 in AFC West  first team since merger to sweep division and not make playoffs.

oh and congrats to Jon just so he remembers this bet

Bills, Browns, Raiders, Lions, Bucs, and Rams ALL do not make the 2010 playoffs
risk $5 to win $5

He probably didn't know he even had a sweat in the final game for this wager.

Vikings ended up being the team we all thought would be good and pick them in the SB but actually suck balls.  Yeah, I'm leaning Chicago as the most likely candidate for this next year *facepalm*  with the colts being 2nd on that list though the AFC South looks like the 2nd weakest division next season.   San Diego is basically dead as they will lose almost everyone that matters this offseason (sans rivers) and now have to rebuild.  (sorry chargers fans but that organization badly fucked up  I mean even Matt Millen probably wonders how that could've gone so bad)

early next season leans
SD under
Chicago under
Dallas over
Carolina over
TB under
KC under
Oak over
Den over

is it just me or instead of 6 teams next season not making the playoffs I want to put the following in the lock category (I only put 2 in that category this preseason)
Vikings, Redskins, Cardinals, 49ers, Panthers, Chargers, Broncos, Texans, Bills, Bengals   Do I need to even bother seeing what happens in the offseason for these?
I would think about including these teams as well
Browns (lock if delhomme starts), TB (probably the worst 10-6 team ever), Jax (I think they overachieved this season but the AFC South is gonna really suck next year), Seahawks (I'm very bullish on the Rams to win that division next season atm)

kinda depends who the NFC West plays I guess.

Hey now, I was well aware of my situation!  I'm also quite aware of how much I lucked out, as the Raiders/Lions/Bucs were much better than I expected them to be while the 49ers were much worse.  But I'll take a win any way I can get it!

Now let's check how things turned out in the Elite NFL competitions for this season.

2010 Pigskin Pick'em Final Results
1. Ngamer - 166
1. Shep - 166
3. Clark - 164
4. Woll - 160
4. Max (Ng's cousin) - 160

Congrats to Shep for taking the season win, however despite holding a 1 game lead heading into W17 he was unable to keep Ngamer from repeating as Pigskin Pick'Em Champ!

Shep and I finished in the 99.1 percentile worldwide, but ESPN locked me out of Colts > Titans and Chargers > 49ers, otherwise I'd have been at 168 and matched last season's 99.6 percentile.  Last year it took 175 correct picks to reach that mark, so you can tell what a difficult season of NFL picks this was!  This year was also tougher than 2008, when mikers won the league with 171 right picks.

2010 NFL Spread Betting Final Results
1. octo - 131 wins
2. Ngamer - 129 wins
3. Alec - 128 wins
4. QB - 116 wins
5. Thingy - 113 wins

Congrats to octo, who ends Ng's two year reign of terror on the Spread charts with a very impressive season!

I was on a roll through the first 11 weeks and on a pace to smash the old Elite record of 135 wins (which I set in '08 and tied in '09) before disaster struck in Weeks 12 and 14.  Very good work by octo in sticking with it despite this being probably the hardest year to bet against the spread we've seen.

2010 NFL Survival League Final Results
1. octo - lasted until W15
2. Nate - lasted until W13
3. Cyber - lasted until W10
4. Goose - lasted until W7
5. Thingy - lasted until W6

Congrats to octo for going 2/3 for the season by also winning Survival!  This was a step back for the Elite, as Neo completed the regular season in 2008 and QB lasted until W17 in '09, but you can hardly blame us considering how many weird results we saw in 2010.

Next up is the NFL playoff edition of Pick'em- be ready to make those picks in a new topic!

The Lions win over the Vikings cost the Lions 7 draft positions (in every round).  A game they literally were in a must lose game and they still fucked it up.  Massive kudos to the Seahawks who's win cost them 14 draft positions (they would've been the #7 pick instead they're the #21--if they lose the round 1 game).   Texans win cost them 5 spots.  Good job guys hurt your team next season because you won a meaningless game*!

naturally St.Louis vs Seattle was the highest rated sunday night game since 2002's ravens vikings.

*ok, fine Seattle did make the playoffs but do you think they've got a shot at winning the SB this season? (hint the answer is no)  Better to build a team where you've got a chance (ie 10-6 or better).  You can't massively improve a team via the draft from pick 21.

I don't remember ever getting to week 17 in Survival...

I would have placed in Pick'em but I forgot 2 weeks. Forgot the last week of spread pick'em too I guess, including a $50 pick'em league Youse was running.

F pick'em imo.
