2010 Goldeneye Team Tournament *WEEK 3 CHALLENGES UP!!!*

This topic has been made specifically for the tournament. I will edit the challenges every week into the second post of this topic. This tournament will be run for 15 days (three sets of 5 days.) This topic should be used primarily for questions about the challenges or rules, proof videos and score submissions. On that note, there are a lot of things to get to!

GENERAL RULES

1) There is a huge difference between Mission status: ABORTED and Mission status: FAILED. Keep in mind which one you need for your respective challenge.

2) Some challenges will require you to actually COMPLETE the mission. Make sure you do so if you are playing one of these challenges or your score will not count.
2a) If, on a mission which must be COMPLETE, you get the time saving glitch, your score will count.

3) Some challenges will allow certain cheats to be on (but aren't necessary) and some might require you to play on 007 mode. If you don't have all the cheats on your cartridge or have 007 mode unlocked, I recommend either getting them or being at a handicap of not being able to use them in these challenges.

4) I will describe the challenge and try to make sure there are no loopholes. If something comes up, I will be sure to deal with it right away and hopefully everyone does the challenge as intended without any cheating.

5) I will provide 5 Challenges each week.  Four of them will be "free for all" as in anyone can play them.  A single team could take the top 4 spots in the challenge.  The 5th challenge will be a team challenge which will rely on at least 3 players from your team attaining a score on that challenge. 

6) Most importantly. You can submit scores to me at any time during the week. I will provide an exact date and time which all scores must be in for that week. If your score is not in by this time, then it will not count. You have a whole week to play and submit a score so hopefully this isn't a problem for anyone. You can also post them in the topic at any time.  This year, times posted in this topic will count as official claims.

DIFFERENCES FROM LAST YEAR

1) Each "week" now consists of 5 days instead of 7 days.  Last year, the tournament dragged on for a while so hopefully this solves that.

2) Most challenges are now free for all players to play.  Hopefully this solves the problem of inactive players/dickheads like Jim Barrett and Alex Hollingsworth.

3) Scoring and proof are different, but I'll be more specific about those later.

SCORING

Each week we will have the following type challenges

Free For All Challenge 1

Free For All Challenge 2

Free For All Challenge 4

Team Challenge 1

Everyone can play every challenge.  Seven people will score points for each Free For All challenge, which means that even the less skilled players can have a diverse influence on the total outcome of the tournament.  The scoring for Free For All challenges will go like this;

1st. 20pts

2nd. 12pts

3rd. 8pts

4th. 5pts

5th. 3pts

6th. 2pts

7th. 1pt

For Team Challenges, the winning team will get a bonus 20 points.  I will be very specific about how scoring works in these, and it may be different for each challenge.  The main thing to remember here is, if you win, you win 20 points.

Unlike last year, a team could hypothetically score 20 points for the team challenge, plus the first 4 spots in all other challenges, which would result in a total score of 200 for the week.  A "sweep" or 1st place in all challenges would result in at least 100 points.

The most points at the end of the 15 day tournament wins outright!

PROOF

I don't want this becoming a mess so I'm going to suggest that the top 3 scores from each challenge, as well as 2 of your top 3 players in the team challenge should all have proof.  The tournament isn't fun if we just lie about times, so just f'ing tape and upload your shit.  It is the year 2010 after all.

Free for All Challenge 1

Name: HEAR ME THIS IS NATALYA (aka Natalya)

Type: Chaos Management

Play and complete Control Agent.  Simple enough?  Least kills wins  No cheats.  Do whatever you want to achieve this.  A faster time will break any ties.

Free for All Challenge 2

Name: EXCUSE ME FOR A SECOND I'M GONNA PUT MY DRONE ON (aka Drone)

Type: Strategy

Play Bunker 2 Agent.  No cheats.  You don't have to beat the level but you do have to;

-get the 2xPP7s

-using the 2xPP7s, destroy the two drones in the back hall

-exit the level

You will likely fail the mission.  You can kill whoever and do whatever, as long as you get the 2xPP7s and destroy those drones.  Fastest time wins.

Free For All Challenge 3

Name: F8CK OUROMOV IN PUBLIC (aka Ouromov)

Type: Performance

Play Temple on multiplayer.  Set the game length to 5 minutes.  For effect (but not necessary) pick Ouromov as your opponent.  You can use any other settings you wish.  The point of the challenge is to kill Ouromov as many times as possible within the 5 minutes.  He will be a dead opponent, sitting there doing nothing, and you will have to run in and kill him as many times as you can.  You will have to press -START- after each kill on the 2nd controller.  The person with the highest amount of kills after a 5 minute session, wins.

CHALLENGES FOR WEEK 1

(due Saturday Sept 18, 10pm EST; Sunday Sept 19, 4am Sweden Time)

 Free For All Challenge 1

 Name: TrevHasRCP90

 Type: Performance

 Using any cheats you want (no TURBO MODE), beat Caverns 00 Agent in what would be a reverse order; that is, complete objective D before C, C before B and B before A.  These are your only parameters.  Fastest time wins.  Ties will not be broken.

 *IMPORTANT NOTE* By “complete” I mean when “objective X completed” comes up on the screen.  You can start to complete the objectives out of order, but they have to be completed in the prescribed order.

 

 

Free For All Challenge 2

 Name: Sn1per Patr0l

 Type: Chaos Management

 Play Facility Agent with no cheats.  Your goal is to kill as many guards as possible while still completing the level in 1:00 or less.  The catch?  You can only use remote mines or slappers to kill guards.  You can shoot your guns as much as you want for any other purpose, but if a bullet hits a guard, your run will be judged as a fail.  Most kills wins.  In the case of ties, a faster time takes precedence.

 

 

Free For All Challenge 3

 Name: Zenith Legend

 Type: Strafing

 Play Dam on 007 mode using any enemy settings you wish.  You may use infinite ammo and 2xRCP-90.  You must complete the level in this order;

 -plant the modem

-enter the basement through the 3^rd tower door

-complete objective c with the mainframe

-go back to the 3^rd tower immediately and destroy that alarm

-go back and destroy the first alarm by the modem screen

-destroy the other two alarms

-jump off 

Fastest completion wins.

 

 

Free For All Challenge 4

Name: my friend

Type: Strategy

Play Aztec on 007 mode using any enemy settings you wish.  You can use infinite ammo and all guns if you wish.  Beat the level, but you must have at least 500 headshots in the mission summary.  Fastest time with at least 500 headshots wins.  In the unlikely event of a fastest time tie, whoever has more headshots will break the tie.

 

 

 

Team Challenge 1

Name: eliteSAMEDI

Play Egyptian Agent.  SLAP the first Baron to death.  PP7 the second Baron to death.  GOLDEN GUN the third Baron to death.  Take the top 3 players’ times from your team and add them up.  Lowest agglomerate score wins the bonus 20 points!

And btw, posting the challenges Monday night means Tuesday morning for the europeans. Woldn't it be more practical to post the challenges Monday morning.

Marc, I'm sticking to Monday night.  We will all get 120h from whenever I post them.  If anything, your team will wake up just as the challenges are posted which means you'll have the most playing time and least amount of sleeps in the "week."  I will post an international date/time all challenges are due by.

As of right now I'd say Monday, Sept 13 @ 10pm EST, 7pm PST; Tuesday, Sept 14 @ 4am Sweden time, will be when the challenges are posted.

Yeah honestly, like Goose said in his post last night before he edited it, our times were pathetic by comparison.  It's not even much of a competition, except for a couple obvious people.  I was happy with my Aztec 3:17..but 2:31??  Pretty crazy.

The problem with this tournament is that not more than a few people are playing on the same ground. What I mean is, Illu's team is really taking this seriously and trying to find every way to push the challenge times to the max, using strats most people would find too inconsistent to really have fun or enjoy this. And not only that, but they have a group of skilled GE players that far outweigh any other team; even if everyone played the same amount of hours and had all used the same strats from the start they would easily win overall. Add in the fact that everyone has to do 5 challenges and the people on my team are very busy (I have to work 6 days a week as well), and this tournament isn't really fair at all the way it is, even if we changed my team to me/goose/alex. Not complaining here, just stating it as how I see it and how most people probably do as well. It was more fun before I think when everyone was assigned 1 challenge, because then it was more common to have people with similar skillset going at it together. This is just downright brutal and a bloodbath for people who don't have much time to play or are just not as experienced with speedrunning.

I was talking to Greg earlier and he mentioned maybe making it free for all and just having everyone go at it against eachother, being Me/Goose/Marc/Illu. Alex told me he doesnt want to continue any more, so this would be the best option imo. I still want to do this, so if Goose agrees I dont see why this is such a big deal. Also, this would cut off the ability for people to use knowledge of other players to their advantage (Illu/Henrik on one team is just ridic considering they can feed marc all sorts of strats). Overall I think this would be the most fair and enjoyable method since all of us seem capable of playing every challenge and taking it seriously, and it would be interesting to see how people do with no outside help (assuming nobody cheats and helps eachother out or asks for outside help from players not in this). Well, let me know what you guys think.

Honestly, if none of you guys have time to play, why did you enter the tournament in the first place? For a tournament like this to work out, no matter what kind of setup, you need players with some free time, at least a few hours most days.

Also if this goes into 1 man teams, i'm out. I really enjoyed playing with my teammates this week and i'm happy i was able to contribute something(mostly in the form of strategic ideas), however considering how i'm only a mediocre player with a controller that can only turn right with 50% speed, i wouldn't stand a chance alone and it simply wouldn't be fun. Please don't remove the awesomeness of team spirit.

Here's some suggestions: 

1. Every team, make sure you get some players who have time to play.

2. Possibly extend time limit, this would be really slow for those who actually can play but might help other teams compete.

henrik, last year 7 days for 1 challenge. this year 5 days 5 challenges. I Thought it would be under the same type format, I have time to get a decent time on 1 level, but not on 5. so no point in letting my team down more when theres too much to be done in to little time for me

That's easy to say when you have the team you have. Why don't you join a team where 1/2 of the people are busy and don't bother, and then try saying that? We need to eliminate teams imo.

If you don't like your team, find a better one. If time is the issue, extend time limit. Besides, eliminating teams is easy for you to say, your the champion and it'd eliminate most of the competition for you.

lol Henrik, thats easy to say when you were placed in the team with Marc and Illu simply because of your common living area (europeans). How do you propose I get a better team? Train my brother to play GE overnight and draft him into my team?

I think since the tourney has already started and seeing the lack of motivation/spare time from people on my team and Ryans, we need to trash the team idea altogether and turn this into a real competition instead of this bullshit thats been going on so far.

Illu's team is using PAL on some levels. I know for a fact that PAL shoots like 1/3 faster on Aztec or something, and also you can switch guns a lot easier which definitely helped on Caverns. Say what you want, but these are very real problems and I think if there isnt a rule about ONLY using NTSC for this tournament, I dont see any point in continuing since it is totally unfair imo 

lmao  Why are you firing soo much bullshit off lately about this tournament? Shiiit. You need to stop making new excuses all the time. Like all this PAL bullshit, "i didn't know i could use all weapons cheat on Aztec i misread it", Henrik all Illu feeding me with strats, etc. I didn't even use PAL for any of these challenges. Just admit the truth ffs. The truth is, that you have a 8 hour job and can't play as much as me and there's nothing wrong with that. Alex also seems very busy. I ain't got nothin better things to do in my life, so i busted my ass off these challenges. Saying my team feeded me with strats doesn't last either. I was very comitted to strats for these challenges. Me and Henrik equally came up with the strats for Facility, i mentioned the idea for shooting Jaws/guards with a different weapon than RCP, i invented the Caverns 131/130 strat (henrik had the strat in his mind too btw) So really, what is it? You're afraid people gonna think we're better than you at GE? Ain't nobody going to think that go look at the rankings. It's like you still feel like you need to proof something even though you've been dominating for almost 4 years. Also, the problem isn't that your teammates either don't give a fuck, or are just too busy for the tournament. How can they help you win if you didn't even get a 1st. score on any of the 4 free for all challenges. The Snowdomez just have more spare time i guess, that's really all what there is to it. If you played as much dam as i did you'd had like 259. But alright, just change the teams just change everything and try make it more "fair" i don't give a shit. I think it's fun playing these challenges i don't care if i loose. You gotta understand i laughed my ass off, when you said the real problem is we using PAL on Aztec and Caverns, since i played it all on Ntsc. I got 242 on Aztec and you got like what.. 303? Just admit that the reason is that you just don't have enough time to play, or just really don't care THAT much about the tournament.

You said you had a hard time on Aztec to get your time, so maybe it was due to ntsc eh? Not sure though, just throwing it out there.

I am not making excuses, but the reality is that one with PAL would have had an advantage on Aztec for obvious reasons. What is the point of this if you will lose just due to having a crappy system? Also, I am amazed at how you are able to backswitch so well on caverns... i can barely take out the grenade launchers in time in the B area with that strat lol, guess either i suck or my controller does.

Also I dont think my lack of spare time has that much to do with our loss. We just had a severely disadvantaged team with a lack of communication due to people being busy or just lacking experience with strats and stuff. Alex hasn't played GE for ages before this and he was the 2nd best member on my team. I just think more thought should have been put into deciding who went on what team so this didnt happen, but oh well. I am all for new teams. Right now my best idea is Me/Marc/Matis vs Illu/Goose/Henrik. I think this would be balanced overall since I probably wont play a whole ton and without Illu/Henrik helping us we might have a hard time finding the best strats. Let me know what you guys think, Ryan said if we agree then he will let it go.

We just discovered that PAL is hugely advantaged in getting shitloads of kills on that Ouru challenge (PAL is like 8-10kills extra easily, timer runs like a minute slower or so weird)

So we just take it that we do NTSC only for this, so don't anyone go using PAL here, it's that much advantaged seriously ridicilous
