yeah, on docks hard there is always a sniper to kill you if ever you manage to escape the hangar with the pickup...

actually I'm wondering which speedrun is the hardest between this one and chinese hard, I only managed to complete them once.
also, I remember it takes a lots of bullets to kill someone on docks hard. more than in any other level if I remember right.

Hm, just saying this from memory, but I think Chinese Hard is harder than Docks Hard (if using WR strat at least). But we must not forgot the pure evil of Tomb Normal! Yes, it's on Normal, but it's like the difficulty is on "Insane, you'll get killed Idiot!" (when going for fast times like we do that is).

Sometimes I actually wondered if Free Radical accidentally switched Normal and Hard mode on that level (even if it looks like it should on the level select screen). Haha, well, that may no be the case. One thing I know for sure though, is that Tomb Normal is easily the hardest level to get a smooth return on. It's next to impossible.

Thanks. I'm not sure yet. Getting under 33 seconds really should be done, but this run seemed really smooth and was still only a highish 33.0. I'm thinking of using different strafelines, so I'll have to mess around a bit first.

I use the tommy gun at the entrance of the cave and then switch to the shotgun, taking the same strafelines as you. The cave is really annoying on Hard because of enemies preventing you from running the best route, especially the zombie in the first part. I've thought of a possible solution though, going to try it this afternoon or evening.

I have no idea what kind of pick-up times I am getting as I just listen to the music when going back onto the streets to know how fast I am.

A guy at timesplitters4.net pointed out that you run faster while strafing with default controls. I never knew that (but you guys probably do).

I remember when we talked on MSN/AIM, Wouter. I said I got like 18.1 on Chemical Planet Easy with default and I thought it seemed good, but apparently it was pretty bad, haha. Well, I just tried it again and got 17.3 in just a minute or two of trying. Now I know how thegame got his times too (since he apparently used default, or so I've heard).

Btw, does the old TS1 elite site exist? Or the player pages?

what are the default controls?
I have move forward/backward and turn on the left stick and strafe, look up/down on the right stick.
if I tried playing now, I have no idea how good or bad I would do, on 360 I play with the following controls : run and strafe on the left stick, look around with the right stick, for the only reason the games don't let you set your control like you want. got used to it anyway, I'm pretty decent on far cry 2 online I think. (or the other players suck badly, which is probably the case too)

Sadly, no.

17.3 seems quite good with normal controls, I may try to beat it sometime.

Silent Thunder: If something goes wrong during the next update, that's my mistake: I added a hotlink to my Planet X Easy 36.9 vid on my score page. I figured it shouldn't be a problem as it doesn't split apart the time or stage name, but if it screws things up just let me know and I'll change it back.

Google cache of the old TS1 site.  I guess it's still there as this was captured on July 13th of this year and I can get the old site when I search for it on google, but freehomepages won't load for me.

I probably should add some of CP's scores from there to his score page.

I think it'd be a good idea to add CP's scores too.

35.4 looks solid.  I ended up following the same strafe changes as in my 35.5 vid, but a little bit better first ramp, a better turn at the end of the red hallway helped add up to an improvement.  I used my newer and more consistent way to drop off at the end.

EDIT:
And is 35.3 possible?  Maybe with a superhuman effort, but probably not.  It's more possible than Village 18.6, but not by a whole lot.

Thanks guys.

I found CP's old TS1 score page. http://cp9123.tripod.com/index.html  I'm adding the rest of his scores to his TSElite page and doing an update.

EDIT:
Done.  CP has five records and is currently in 5th place.  I lost a few points because I suck at Story Hard and CP doesn't.

Good job finding his page, ST. I guess I should mention that, if my memory serves me well, CP has sub 40 on Tomb Easy. I think it was 39.8 or 39.7 he posted on the old scopinfo forum. Have no clue if it was proven and it's up to you to decide if we should just leave it as 40.7 (it won't change anything in points).

Also, I still can't believe you got 35.4.

I think CP had 115 on 8A, since that's the score I struggled to beat.
hum, 30 on lobster run isn't a joke. must be close to the max, unless you get lucky, and the ennemies bring a few lobsters to your base.

Someone needs to lower the crappy Chem Plant easy time...I think I remember telling myself that around 14.7 should be doable (but the combination of doing the stairs properly and then not running into a few stupid enemies made it really tough).
If I had a copy of TS1 this would be the first record down.

PS - I just looked at my scores (incredibly ancient, supposedly 12 of my story times are untied records haha) and I noticed I technically have the records for 2A and 2B still (136 and 187 respectively).

14.7 is not possible with current strat. Both me and SniperWD do the stairs and everything else very fast and don't run into any enemies.

Yes, actually this game has a lot of fun levels..
And, to Stefan, I watched Ace's 15.2 run (you're him, right?) and if that is you, you are in fact doing the stairs slow.  at least half a second easily.  You have to spin to do them fast if I remember.  (Watch SilentThunder's Notre Dame Easy world record when he spins on a set of stairs, around 1:10 in.).  You can cut the corners much harder if you do it right in this level.  It is a much more fluid motion, it's just a little harder to pull off and you will fall more but when you actually get it down perfectly it's definitely faster, try it out.

I'd be glad if you proved me wrong, but my experience tells me that my (it was actually Wouter who started doing it first) way of doing the stairs is the fastest. Not saying the video has optimal stairs, but almost as good as you can ask for without falling down. It's hard to compare TS2 with TS1 too, since you don't have to strafe in TS2.

If you watch ST's Chemical Plant video (and I'm pretty sure he used your way) he actually lose time by doing too much of a "spin" motion, or whatever.

Oh yeah, the member list for all the games is probably screwed up.  Originally I uploaded all of the time pages that were generated from the old database, and then made a quick page for each ranking that just pointed to those time pages.

Any pages that players are actually managing on 100mb probably aren't listed there.  In your case, the link is just pointing to your time page that came from the old database, and I never updated the link when you started updating your own times.

I just have to program the updater to automatically update the member pages.  It was one of those things I meant to do and then forgot about.  I'll try and work on it tonight.

Your current time page is the one that's used for the actual rankings update, so don't worry about your new times not being on the rankings.  They are there.

Alright, thanks for clearing that up for me.

Just some thoughts on future updates of the site: fix special rankings page and fists-only leauge. Would be fun to have those to look at. Also, the super monkey ball 1 & 2, german elite and f-zero links doesn't seem to work. Maybe there are other rankings pages we could replace them with.

Just want to mention these things, but no hurry :P

Thanks ST.

Edit: TS2 rankings - "Contacts" link is broken. It works for TS1 and FP though.

Congrats to butternutsquash for pwning TS1 Easy lately. I did not expect anyone to get 18.6 on Village Easy. Must've taken some courage trying to improve the old WR. :P

35.4 on Cyberden is also insane, as we all know, and I still think Chinese 32.3 is a strong WR.

Nice job Chris/butternut! :D

Nice work on 4:58.5, MepH.  I won't be able to update for a while.  I had a major computer crash on the computer I use for update and ended having to wipe the whole thing.  I have backups of most of the time pages, but MegaDestructor's and butternutsquash's stuff will be way out of date when I get the updater reloaded again.

Then i trained 30min more to see if i could get 0.2 better or so, but didn't even finish a run, always got stuck on a guard as you said ;S

I have yet to make 4:58.5 on 3A... actualy I'm not sure I've successed even once with the DNS, I don't get it, it looks easy on videos, but when I try, I don't survive even one minute.

crispy duck is getting on my nerves... why do they always have to spawn at 2 opposite sides of the level so that I can't kill one of them without the other one getting a free shot at the duck???

noticed something weird also, sometimes the duck loses health when no one is shooting him??? does it happen in other escort levels?

Ah, about 3A, look ST's vid or my vid on it, go on exactly same place, and look exactly where we are looking, I was surviving 1/2 times with that tech!
It's very boring to get the good spawn point and cool strafing and then just dying because of unluck yeah... ;S

I don't know about crispy duck, never tried this level more than 10minutes, so i suck on it ;)

someone knows how ST shoots so fast on barrel blast? I was like "oh yeah it's easy, I'm doing it exactly like ST" and I end up one minute slower. then I check the video again and I'm like "how the hell does he shoot that fast??" I tried tapping the button super fast, but it isn't faster than keeping it pushed  :-?

Yeah i had the same feeling about it, but after playing the map around 30minutes I did 3:56 with 5-10 sec easy fail; so i can do around 30sec slower. At start I thought I was shooting a lot slower, then it seems it was a little bit faster but still slower than in ST's vid, I don't know why... maybe it's just a feeling. ^^ buy I really don't know how to be close to ST's time at all, even with many improvements on my run...

Also, keeping the button pushed is faster than pusing it fast, i'm sure about it, I'll maybe try to do a video on it and calculate how many shoots par minute we just do, to be sure there isn't any version difference, but I don't think there are any differences.

I don't hold down the fire button.  You do need to tap it to fire faster, but you have to tap it at about the rate that you see the gun firing in my vid.  You have to get a feel for it, and it's pretty difficult to keep it going for stretch of several seconds.

You will not get close to the WR if you keep the fire button held down.

Oh ok nice =) I just did 3:50.3 with keeping the button pushed down, and thanks a lot about the tip!! I thought tapping it was slower because I was doing it too fast and lost time because of that, now I know we have to get the timing to shoot fast! I'll maybe try better with that tech... but I don't think so since I'm not often here these days and want to stop timesplitters 1 temporarily go try some other games (maybe ts2 or ts3)

ST, I'm curious if you can share some target times on Cyberden Easy. Maybe at the pickup or when you take the armour. After a few hours of playing over a couple of days, I'm starting to get used to playing on the HDTV so I might be able to beat my oldest PR at least (Cyberden Easy 35.8 ). Thanks.

We should discuss records in this topic instead!  :D Yeah, I actually did it your way when I got this time but it's very possible to get it the "normal" way too actually.

I got 39.2 seven or eight times before this (doing it the "normal" way at the pickup). There's only one bad part in the run; a too wide turn near the end. If someone ties this WR, I'll try to get 39.0.

Forgot to say that it's on tape.

I'll try to improve a little bit my time aswell, a 39.3 would be cool ^^
butternutsquash who recently got all ts1 easy wrs will for sure try to tie/beat that record, that's promising ;)
Edit: Just saw your vid, awesome run;D
