Regarding Dam Agent there was something that I have over looked after the lock shot which may help other players and should be included in any tutorial.

Basically I was not sure how Justin's 53 was 53 since the start was pretty sloppy (lost a couple .1's here and there) and was pretty much an entire boost behind Dan Cervone's run to the lock shot. However it seems like Justin's way of doing the ending saved a huge amount of real time due to lag reduction probably an entire boost's worth.

Basically by going to the railing as soon as it starts (maybe switch to unarmed) and using lots of look up it can save some tenths probably due to lag reduction. This went against my intuition since taking the shortest distance seemed natural to me and the lag didn't seem to be an issue.

Anyways this may be old news but that all seems like important info for such a tutorial.
This little tidbit helped so much. I grinded 14 hours to get my first 54. I read this and played dam again and duped it in 10 minutes, and again in another hour or 2, and got 55s more consistently as well. could be because I'm a bit more experienced with 1.2/the game in general now as well.

Is there a fairly detailed tutorial on how to get S2 48? I have a pretty good idea of what to do obviously but the throw is obviously different from 1.2 0:49 and I don't want to spend 100 hours getting this retarded time. Thanks :)

I heard lockwood giving justin tips on his stream once, all I got was to yolo the throw, focus on failing tons of 48's instead of going for some sort of consistency on them. (but idk, isn't it the same for every single IL trick?)

After many hours of Archives, I have made this video to help ANYONE ANYWHERE ANYTIME to get Archives 18 easily.

I hope this helps someone out there having a small quirk with the first room, I know if I had seen this years ago I'd be like "Oh my god, I can easily get 18 now thanks Ogran you lovable Bastard".

The throw is done faster. The warp is done a bit faster too.

Tip for any new player trying to master Archives first room:

1. After cutting both cinemas, hold Z and left strafe, don't touch the analog stick at all.
2. Wait until you're well past the table, then switch to right strafe and turn towards the guard.

It doesn't get any easier/more consistent than that really. Plus you'll be in a great spot/angle to open the first door.

If this kind of data already exists, it's not on the goldeneye tutorial thread, or the speedrun facts, or when you search for "surface" on 1000 days old posts, or on the 2 first pages of searching just "surface".

I know that the main difficulty of S2 A mine throw is actually throwing it straight into the communications room without losing speed. A tutorial on that would probably be pointless, since every player has their own feel for the thing.

But I got every single 48/49 video (not the ones in which the runner has a 48 PR), and on the 48's I determined the time between the 1st frame in which you appear with 0 mines and 1st one when the mine activation sound is played. Those numbers range from 2.736 to 3.137 seconds, with an average of 2.976. I also captured the first frame that I've mentioned, to see if any pattern showed up. You can look at them yourselves, but what I "got" is that, in 3 of them in which this time was 3.0 seconds, the whole satellite dish (not just the the top half, not with the building showing up) could be seen on the bottom. The ones in which I could see more than nonsense foggy stuff, had the dish straight in the middle of the screen.

So if you know the delay between your input and the mine count going down, and between your input and the sound (or if they cancel each other out), you could start a timer as you throw the mine (with your feet? :p ) and blow it up when the timer reaches a certain number (using my numbers that would be 2,8~2,9? depending on your action delay). All this data seem irrelevant, because why not just yolo the throw, use a visual cue for the detonation and hope for the best? But since I'll eventually spend 10's of hours failing 49~48's for a 49 completion, and more for 48, why not spend a few trying to increase my chances on what I can control? Even if they go from something like 1/25 to 1/24  :kappa:

I didn't want to do the statistic bullcrap with the 49's because this interval was generally lower than the 48's, so I decided to just do this with the world records (making my life easier, but bad sample size).
Data (with those screencaps) and methodology here, for the curious:

ryan koch's I couldnt quite hear the sound but I did the thing anyway, may not be correct

0 - Make 500ml of coffee and put some music on otherwise I would get more bored than a pedophile in a indian casino
1 - Copypasta runners' names and youtube video URLs
2a - Download every one of them in mp4 480p or lower on clipconverter.cc
2b - 6 by 6, renaming the vids for better organization (doh!)
41 videos, 265 MB, 58:39 total time (although it's irrelevant)
3 - Analyze them with Sony Vegas 11
4 - Determine the time difference between when the mine activation sound plays and the first fadeout frame of the mine ammo icon from Clemens' vid (=0.3 sec, checked in a few others too, exactly the same), which is probably* constant, because the weapon switch is automatic (so I can rely only on visuals and have my music on)
*there might be slight differences due to lag, but it's not like I'm going for perfection here, rather than statistics
*in most videos there's no ammo icon "fading out", so I use the first frame in which the icon does not exist, it might be 2 frames off TOPS (also from Clemens' vid)
5 - Screen shot the 1st "Ammo:0" of every one of the vids (who knows, maybe there's a pattern between the angle used and the activation time) (I did it only on the 48's, cause the position of the 49's varies a lot)
*if I couldn't find those cues I just played with sound for the mine activation
6 - Determine the time difference between the 1st "Ammo:0" frame and the 1st fadeout frame of it, subtracting the number obtained in step 4

Worst case scenario, this is not helpful at all and no one uses it, but at least if someone has the same stupid idea as me, the data is already here, and they don't need to spend time to get it.  :v

The detonation part is not really that important. Just detonate around when you climb the snow (or slightly afterwards) and you'll be fine pretty much. It's all about the throw.

I honestly think poeple having problems getting 48 should consider the open door strat before spending a ton of hours grinding. Not only does it guarantee 48 speed, it also allows for a more consistent throw (walking higher up the snow before throwing). You only need to hit the mine a handful of times (The ending should be roughly 50% consistent), and you'll have your 48.

Yeah my mine throw was really consistent(I once got 4 in a row). What was less consistent was the ending, but after a bit of practice it became easier. Did not take long to get the record, I just needed a clean end. Learning the new end strat is a far better option.

anyone actually could help by just going through this thread, copy/pasting the OP, and adding any extra links in a post formatted that way.  I can then just copy/paste the whole thing into the OP.

I've got a ton going on which is why this is way back on the backburner for me atm.

*********THE OP HAS BEEN UPDATED*********

Enjoy the tutorials.  Re-reading this thread I've been inspired to put them on speedrunwiki or maybe have someone build another page for the-elite.net.

I do think I'll make it a project of mine to get as many of these done as possible.  Anyone can feel free to make some (or improve some.)  Hopefully by the end of the year we'll have a nice page full of tutorials & explanations.

Made a 'quick' (as goldeneye tutorials always are  :kappa:) tutorial for Statue A/SA/00A with a controller visible showing the turns, strafes, EZ Val strafe etc.

Pretty beginner friendly and it is sponsored by the Prince of Wales.

Not that scripted, but very detailed, and it seems to flow pretty well. Aimed at players experienced on Runway Agent. For the pros, I included times for the essential parts. Enjoy!

Runway 00 Agent: Tank Strat

No one had done it before, so I did it. Extremely detailed for such an outdated strat :D

yeah nice one Spec. I like it how you're dedicated enough in doing a tutorial for a non-WR strat.

Now someone needs to make a tutorial for the 1999 Cav 00A-strat :kappa:

Here's a vid of my "trick" to get the ghost door open on archives. not sure if it works on WR pace runs, but I figured I'd throw it out there, see if anyone can roll with it.

It's simple really. just wait both cutscenes, then shoot one bullet before the first double doors. Downside is that it alerts a lot of guards, and causes a lot of lag.

So I tried to make a surface 2 secret agent tutorial today. After quite a bit of time fussing around, I decided instead to make a "rough draft" tutorial.  Instead, don't link this tutorial. I think I can make a much better tutorial with some input from everyone else.  I'd rather make a more polished tutorial that involves input from many people, than to put one out that just has my point of view on the level, which may or may not have misleading information.  So, this is 13 minutes of me just ranting about how I do stuff.

I'd like to know what you guys think was useful information. I'd like to know what you guys thought was unnecessary. I'd like to know more about how other people with 49 worked out their own timing with the cinemas and maybe how they approach the nade throw.  I have very little information on how to do the mine throw, and I'd be very pleased to know strategies for that.

Basically, I'd like to make this as concise as possible, but include as much information as I can. Feel free to really challenge anything you think I'm doing incorrectly.

I hope this makes sense, and I'm looking forward to what you guys have to say, and if you think this is a good idea or not.

Thanks:

Here it is, the step by step tutorial for all your R-Lean needs:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKJJ3P73DAM

I go over how I do:
Single R-Lean
Single R-Lean while moving
Double Lean
Double Lean while moving
Grenade Lean
Grenade Lean while moving
Grenade Double Lean
Grenade Double Lean while moving

I tried my best to show inputs at least once for each throw. They may not be perfectly accurate, but I hope you get the idea. I tried to keep it concise, but it does start out a bit slow. If you have any questions, or find any issues with it, I WILL DESTROY YOU. I mean, please let me know if you have any questions. If there are any fundamental flaws, I'll just update the tutorial completely. I still need to do a separate tutorial for Surface 2 SA, but I wanted to get this out there, so hopefully other people can try it out and see if they want to explore the R-Lean themselves.

I'm pretty sure Luke didn't mention it in his tutorial, this is a short example of both boost-lure shooting spots at the first part of Caverns Agent. It helped Birdie, so I'll just leave it here.
