Don't worry, I was not particularly attacking your post. The grandfathering of the unprovens I mentioned is fundamentally retarded because there most likely never was an explicit decision to allow those times on the ranks (like in the Berube case), it's probably just the debris of the days of lackluster comeasur proof moderation (or whoever is responsible for this mess). Shit is very demotivating too. Like, why should I play my ass off to compete with someone who is 3/20 SA 1/20 00A and whose few provens are mainly very easy/common times (Glen Stevens).
i never was THE proof mod m8
when i did try to take control and do the right thing by calling for people to send tapes, make vids, etc. because YE/whoever was too busy/lazy to do so, they just whined like babies about it. (Boss, Trent, maybe some others)
also its easy to look back in hindsight and say how bad it is to have no proof for some of these records, low proof for some people, but if you werent around when it was happening you dont know the exact situation, the overall level of proof/vids at the time, the actual feeling of "trust" towards someone... it was a different time period. sure things could have and probably should have been done better, but this site and any other speedrunning site which has been around for so long had to go through those situations to learn how to handle things better. go look at MK64.. you think if Zwartjes claimed some of his times there now without proof instead of in 2002 or whatever he'd be allowed on?
"trust" is in quotation marks because its a term that has had its meaning evolve as the community has. early on, if you earned "trust" by posting strategies, chatting it up with other people, showing yourself to have knowledge of the game, you would be able to claim whatever time you wanted, video proof or not (except streets 113 Kappa). later on, "trust" meant you were someone that went to higher standards than others as far as proving your times went, whether it was making your own vids, sending tapes off to people, not updating your times page without proof, etc. in the near future, if not already, "trust" will be earned by someone who only plays for PRs/WRs on stream with great audio/video quality, webcam w/ sound, and actively showing improvement as they work harder at the games. people who act like robots now and just post PRs every few days with videos linked aren't considered "trusted" compared to those who stream constantly. thanks henning/montieth/trent.
this isnt an lol-newbies post directed at you or anyone else in here, just try to understand the other side of the situation before just latching onto whatever the loudest argument is. this will also likely be my last post on the subject as there's not much point re-hashing the same arguments every 3 months because people cant just (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ Let It Go
