Goldeneye MIDI Sequencing
« on: August 01, 2014, 12:51:15 pm »
I know that shit is very 1999, but a few years ago I've been spending a bit of free time sequencing GE songs in MIDI. Now, GE uses MIDI but not the General MIDI sound set, it's a custom-made sound set that Grant Kirkhope doesn't have anymore (or I assume so, I asked him for DK64 actually). Since I'm just using General MIDI, I can't make it sound like the originals. But I tried.

I made Cradle and part of Surface 1. I feel like doing one more, and I welcome suggestions.

Severnaya Surface (Incomplete)
Cradle

Bonus: Rickety Rails from Donkey Kong Country Returns

I voted for Control, Silo and Depot. The 3 best tunes in the game (since you've done Cradle already). It'll be cool to listen to some finished products!

Can we include attachments to posts? I can't seem to find it. I see links, images, FTP links (does anyone still use that?), youtube, vimeo etc. but no file attachment.

Actually.... https://www.dropbox.com/s/b1l32x4j5cafvb9/GoldenEye%20007%20Samples.zip

I found these a while ago... Someone ripped every sample into wav format and I've just been too busy to build a sampler out of them. Have fun!  :nesquik:

These sounds are too high pitched, and it seems to be only sound effects and not the musical instruments. Music was done in MIDI.

I don't really want to try and get the original sound set because
1. it would be a lot of work for relatively low reward
2. I am not even sure my sequencer will support it
3. People would need to have the sound set to read the midi file

General MIDI will do.

Uploaded to dropbox + added link in first post. I'll add a little bonus, my most complicated song sequenced by ear, also the last one I put effort into (in about 2012)

This sounds very similar to the level music they made in the GoldenEye Setup Editor.

I voted for Silo because why not? :D

Amazing job! :o I suggest you posting it also on some place like SMWcentral, so SM64 romhackers can put more goldeneye songs in their hacks (like BroDute), cause they're amazing.
Voted for B1 becasuse of the chill pre-alarm song :D

Silo is gonna be one hell of a challenge. I started working a bit on Depot a couple days ago and I'm having trouble making the drums sound decent, the problem being they're kind of major. I think it might end up sounding pretty good anyway. I'll do Silo next, or at least try.
