I respect what Hearthstone tries to be, and I kind of enjoy hearing about the chatters and their exploits in the game, but it's not a game I was able to get into for whatever reason.
Overwatch looks cool, but I'm more interested in following its development as the first MOBA FPS game from a major studio (if you guys haven't heard of Super Monday Night Combat, go check out some videos of it, it was the first real good MOBA FPS). Blizzard games kind of exist in their own world, for better or for worse, so the game will find some group of passionate fans that like it, whether or not the game is any good. But applying MOBA designs to other genres, like SMNC and Awesomenauts did, is a really interesting problem and I like to see how experiments work out. I don't think Overwatch will be an actual MOBA, for the record, just that it's likely to incorporate MOBA mechanics like character bans and team synergy in new ways to the classic FPS formula.
Also, not to really nitpick here, but I would attribute Quake to the existence of TF2 and Counterstrike, not GE.
As any dedicated PC gamer could tell you, fast-paced PC shooters like (apparently) Overwatch are a way different skill than any slower-paced console shooter like GE. If you're actually serious about this, you could get a head start on your practice by checking out a game like TF2 or CS:GO, because a lot of those same people will be playing this game. (Also I'm aware several Eliters are experienced CS players, mostly talking to the people who have little competitive PC shooter experience, it's a very different game and you'll be playing against a million people who have been playing PC shooters for 15 years)
