mates

do we want to make an OFFICIAL The-Elite eSports team?  My pal Jake is interested in making an eSports team for Sm4sh Bros and has quite a few local connections with top tier Ontario smash players.  I figure if we're going to make a team for Overwatch we might as well just fully go all in as an entire organization and have several teams for various games.

I don't really think there's any like "International eSports Committee" who governs eSports teams so it's more of a "say it's real and it's real" thing.  I don't think there's any place to register a team or any official fees or anything?  Does anyone know more about this?

Having competitve teams in other games seems like it would work out well, the only difficult part would be getting in on the ground floor with sponsors to actually make it a reality.

Example: C9 wants to recruit one of us and has a ton of money when T-E doesn't. What's a guy to do?

It would seem to me the same as you Goose; having a marketing firm and proving you're legit honestly does make you legit

I might need to save for a true gaming desktop to play, but I know my laptop could handle it at least. Pretty pumped for this.

Yeah I mean I have no problem just starting a team and having some friends join and play.  If at one point C9 or whatever want to recruit one of us and actually have money to offer instead, then all the power to whoever joins a big time team.

It'd just make things seem more legit if we actually had the logo associated with whoever was competing in Overwatch tournaments.  If we have some boys playing Sm4sh around local areas under the-elite banner that'd be pretty cool.

I'll ask Clarky if it's cool to use the-elite name and logo for this sort of thing and if he approves we'll go full steam ahead just associating everything with "The-Elite eSports."  It'll be a blast.

In fact it might be a huge plus considering only one member of The-Elite has Twitch partner currently

Eventually once the eSports team is established anyone who is a member can be like "I'm on this team give me partner" and they would oblige

Yeah I'm all for one banner team it's a great idea

Bumping with new information & plans on this.

I exchanged a few emails with Clark on this matter about 2 months ago.  Essentially, we're in agreement that The-Elite brand supporting an eSports team being a very good thing all round.  Gamers would get more exposure and more opportunities.  Twitch partnerships might come more easily.  Site developers and web hosts would have larger sites to built their portfolios.  Expansion is good.

Depending on a lot of things, we could keep any level of separation from no affiliation other than sharing a name, to complete unity.  My goal for this summer is to set up a website for an eSports team in preparation of Overwatch's release, as well as Splatoon's release.  These two games, along with Smash 4, would be the games I'm interested in creating teams for at the moment.

So where do we start?

The first thing I need is a domain.  We could attach a domain to the-elite itself, (esports.the-elite.net for instance) though I'd have to talk to Clark and Ngamer about that one.  I like that feel and it'd be nice.  We could also get a unique domain.  The .gg extension is popular for eSports teams these days.  I made a offer on elite.gg but it was already spoken for.  the-elite.gg seems available, though I feel like the "the-" is too clunky in the modern day of streamlined catchwords.  Things like "eliteesports.gg" or "elite-esports.net" are likely available, but similarly clunky.  Does anyone have some good suggestions for a domain?

From there, I'd create an overview page and players page.  Possibly a forum and articles from there.

Here are some examples of well laid out eSports teams' sites:

http://www.tsm.gg/
http://cloud9.gg/
https://tempostorm.com/

From there, it's just a matter of playing games at a top level (like the-elite has always done,) streaming to Twitch, networking with other eSports people, recruiting new members and hopefully getting involved in hosting or participating in tournaments.

So a few questions and offers as I leave this post:

Any good suggestions for an elite eSports domain?
Anyone with web experience willing to work on the site?
Anyone else with suggestions or offers of expertise in any fields?
Any other relevant input?

I'm very excited and motivated to be working on this right now.  I look forward to seeing it come together.

Imo, having "esports" in the domain name looks fine if it's attached to the-elite (since there's way more to the community than just the e-sports branch, etc), but it looks a bit unnecessary if you choose the unique domain way... is something like "teamelite.gg" available (my guess would be no)? Pretty simple, easy to type and it'd keep the EGG intact at the end of the URL.  :nesquik:

That domain does appear available (and I really like it.)  But elite.gg also appeared available last night when I "bought" it.  I only got a receipt of payment and nothing else.  Then when I woke up this morning I got an email saying that the purchase didn't go through because elite.gg wasn't available.  The payment is now pending so I'm not sure how things will go from here.

I used the site netim.com which is the only place I could find selling .gg domains.  I'm hesitant to go back and "buy" teamelite.gg from them because of what happened last night.

Anyone know of any other places to buy .gg domains? (GoDaddy and Yahoo Domains don't sell them.)

I went ahead and purchased teamelite.gg for $75.

Now for hosting and development.  I'm aiming to have something up by May 29th (Splatoon's release.)

Here are some social media stuff:

http://eliteesports.tumblr.com/
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMp8t_A3NWKMi3d_ZyVoxmA

Followed some of you on Twitter.  Feel free to follow.  Likely nothing of interest for a couple weeks at least, but there it is.

I'd like a "tighter" logo for small avatars and such, but I should be able to whip something up.  Just the crosshairs would be perfect imo.

What's the status of this? If you don't need anything special we can maybe set it up with Clark's provider for the-elite.net.

The site is up:  www.teamelite.gg

I've installed a WordPress editor to the site.  I'd in theory be willing to give logins to people willing to work on the site.  I've done zero with it (it looks awful) but me and maybe others will get something that looks reasonable up in the near future.

I emailed Clark a while ago.  We talked about this in March, but when I wrote him about a week ago, no response.  I don't think anyone's heard from him in a while, so getting it up on the-elite's provider seems unlikely right now (maybe in the future.)  I have hosting and the domain though so all is well atm.

BUMP

Overwatch Beta comes out tomorrow.  Apparently they're going to be pretty restrictive with keys.

I'll message Jones and see if his pal Lee can come through.

I really thought it was going to be a unique game but from watching some gameplay of the beta I can confirm this is literally just a re-skinned TF2 with 1 oe 2 different mechanics and movement options. I could kick ass in this game without even trying. I don't have a beta key but when it goes public I'll probably play it a bit.

Okay, we played for almost 3 hours.  The levels and characters seem neat and fun, and the controls feel pretty good.  A couple times we couldn't choose a character on the character select screen, some kind of bug I guess.

I had a really fun time as the grim reaper.

If you've been hearing good things about Overwatch in the last few months but aren't sure if you want to make the purchase, now's your chance!  Blizzard is throwing the first-ever (since Beta) Free Weekend where everyone is allowed to play, it starts at 2pm EST on Friday (so 22 hours from this post).  That's for all platforms, PC/ONE/PS4.

All progress and items you earn during the weekend you get to keep, if you decide to buy the game after the free weekend is complete.

(If you do buy it from the PC side don't do the $60 version, the $40 digital edition is the complete game with no restrictions, the extra 20 only gets you special outfits your characters can wear and that sort of thing.)
