Bumping with new information & plans on this.
I exchanged a few emails with Clark on this matter about 2 months ago. Essentially, we're in agreement that The-Elite brand supporting an eSports team being a very good thing all round. Gamers would get more exposure and more opportunities. Twitch partnerships might come more easily. Site developers and web hosts would have larger sites to built their portfolios. Expansion is good.
Depending on a lot of things, we could keep any level of separation from no affiliation other than sharing a name, to complete unity. My goal for this summer is to set up a website for an eSports team in preparation of Overwatch's release, as well as Splatoon's release. These two games, along with Smash 4, would be the games I'm interested in creating teams for at the moment.
So where do we start?
The first thing I need is a domain. We could attach a domain to the-elite itself, (esports.the-elite.net for instance) though I'd have to talk to Clark and Ngamer about that one. I like that feel and it'd be nice. We could also get a unique domain. The .gg extension is popular for eSports teams these days. I made a offer on elite.gg but it was already spoken for. the-elite.gg seems available, though I feel like the "the-" is too clunky in the modern day of streamlined catchwords. Things like "eliteesports.gg" or "elite-esports.net" are likely available, but similarly clunky. Does anyone have some good suggestions for a domain?
From there, I'd create an overview page and players page. Possibly a forum and articles from there.
Here are some examples of well laid out eSports teams' sites:
http://www.tsm.gg/ http://cloud9.gg/ https://tempostorm.com/From there, it's just a matter of playing games at a top level (like the-elite has always done,) streaming to Twitch, networking with other eSports people, recruiting new members and hopefully getting involved in hosting or participating in tournaments.
So a few questions and offers as I leave this post:
Any good suggestions for an elite eSports domain?
Anyone with web experience willing to work on the site?
Anyone else with suggestions or offers of expertise in any fields?
Any other relevant input?
I'm very excited and motivated to be working on this right now. I look forward to seeing it come together.
